Every doodle board has a theme to encourage creativity. There are currently 4 main boards that are cycled through, and when the current board is nearly full a poll will be posted for users to vote on the next theme. Polls stay up for about 2-3 days, and they are your sign that the board will be cleared soon. A picture of the completed board and the new theme name will be posted. Occasional reminders will be posted with the link and theme of the current board. Miss the previous theme? That's alright! Just go to the previous board and add your doodle. Make sure to post it to the thread when you're done.

If you have any theme requests, please post them! We always appreciate new theme suggestions. Themes are merely a suggestion, you can draw whatever you like on the board but please keep in mind that we have a shitpost/no theme board.

Aside from the main board(s), there may also be multiple active side boards at any given time. These side boards have themes such as coloring book, vent/horror, shitposting/no theme, etc.

If you make a new layer and then leave the board you may not be able to access that layer again due to restrictions put on the boards to protect against raids and defacing. In this case, feel free to ask in this thread for your layer back and an admin will assist you.

In general, please do not be afraid to ask for help with anything. Admins cannot be active 24/7 but we will try to help you work out any issues as soon as possible.

Due to an incident on August 29th 2024, all the images on /ot/ were deleted. We managed to restore the majority of the images through various methods. To read more about this, check this thread:

Current recovery status:
Only 627 missing images remaining out of 320,118

Updates were slow for a while as we worked through the forensically recovered files, which required some manual work to do effectively. Unfortunately, some images couldn't be recovered. As far as we can tell, many of these were lost well before the incident. The oldest posts appear to have been lost when the threads were moved from /g/ to /ot/ many years ago.

If you have any of the missing images, you can send them in bulk to admin@lolcow.farm, or you can report a post with a missing image and put an image URL as the report reason. We appreciate anyone who can contribute!

Fasting/portion control isnt even that hard after you power through the agonizing first 3-4 days where you want to keel over from hunger. To me is not thinking like a buyer. In the last years, the demographic has shifted a lot in artist alleys and everything did a complete 180.
In the past years, it was only a geek hangout spot with losers and autism so you could do the most niche merch ever and you could find a buyer, now those buyers don't go to cons anymore because it's now a "cool kid" thing but the average normie at a con only watches anime if it's dubbed on crunchyroll, so even the commercial sellers don't import niche things anymore or if they do, they don't know shit but want a shitton of money so they buy bootlegs, in AAs there's now this weird anime kid on tiktok + weird surface infandom jokes so it creates this weird merch line of things that yeah, can be understood by normies but on the slightest, under the surface level twitter users and this creates a circle where most costumers are other artist alley artists themselves. many aa artist don't put themselves in the most normie shoes and try to sell pieces that can't be understood by normies but aren't appealable to actual [media] fan because the fans like in character merch, the fanon versions of characters (like trooning out some, race swapping some) is only popular in a very strict fandom portion. The best way to sell is just to draw stuff that's in character, it reaches a wildly wider demographic, if I see one more artist whining about how the keychain of their weirdly ambigous character doesn't sell because it has a troon flag on it and they use it as their personal puppet for politics I'm gonna snap

Idk what I'd consider THE biggest, but yeah this in a variety of ways!
Firstly they assume their mediocre art can compete. For example >>2386336 genuinely thinking their wonky faced chibis will definitely for sure sell! But they wouldn't even buy it themselves, and would go to a better artist instead. They just refuse to look at the competition around them to see what they're up against.
Then secondly what bugs the heck out of me personally is that they either go TOO general, or TOO niche.

I like once piece. I do NOT want another fucking basic Luffy or Nami face etc. It's so generic there is literally no point in getting it for me even as a fan. There are so many other characters in every franchise, or you could mix them up with something new to make it more special. I'm begging for creativity! I'm looking in AA and not at official merch for a reason!

And then the other half of people instead draw Luffy as a black transman uke getting pegged by his nonbinary transfem step brother Ace who is now Indian and also disabled. Only some deranged tiny 0.001% would be interested in it yet they display it with such confidence. After all if we don't buy it, WE are evil terfs and it's not their own fault.
It's sort of general advice by now, but I really do think if most of those AA artists just stopped to think "would I actually buy this from someone else?" like 90% of the time they'd realize that they wouldn't, they just liked the idea of selling one piece stickers in general.

It sucks, but only bringing original art to a con. Unless you have an established style, unique item, or online fanbase, you will lose money if you don't have any fanart to sell. It's a personal goal of mine to transition to selling 100% original art at my table, but if that's your goal too, be smart about it. Don't attend your first con as an unknown artist with no fanart, you need to make some money upfront to invest in your table and art later. Expenses/losses should always be considered when you table at shows. It's a big error when artists treat their table as an extension of their hobby and don't take the business side seriously.
