Yeah, that's similar to what happened in the majority of sub-saharan Africa. The only reason that this is in any way exceptional is because the only native inhabitants of the region were basal hunter-gatherers. If they'd managed to conquer the Namib Desert then that would be a true testament to their abilities, but it turns out that the land they farmed wasn't that difficult to farm with a bit of effort.

Some Bantu peoples arrived in the area around the same time, and a little after, the Afrikaners arrived.
