I don’t wanna post this tinfoil in Shay’s thread because she definitely lurks and if it’s true I don’t want her to catch on by reading anons debate it, but I’m curious to hear other anons’ opinions on this.
I think her family/mom might actually be planning some sort of intervention situation with her upcoming trip. Whether it’s sending her to rehab or just trying to get her to move back home, the fact that they’ve convinced her to be away from Washington for basically a month is fishy to me. Considering their current relationship, unless her mom has suddenly radically accepted Shay’s lifestyle despite everything degrading drastically, I don’t see why she would take Shay on a 2 week trip like this. The only way I could see it being anything else is if it’s a graduation present for Shay’s brother and she’s just tagging along, but I really want to believe this tinfoil bc her family needs to stop enabling her.
They’re making sure Shay has arrangements to have her pets and everything taken care of in Washington for basically at least a month ahead of time… the 6 day gap in the middle sounds like a possible lie just to make sure that she doesn’t catch on & think that she’d be gone from ‘home’ for too long and not agree to go. I think it’s a way to get her home for something. There’s no way Shay would normally block off almost a month of her ~busy~ schedule to spend time with family and they know that. They know the only way to get Shay to come spend more than a day or two (which are usually just holidays) with family is if they bait her with a family obligation (graduation party) then something big that benefits her, like a trip to Ireland.
Maybe they’ll use actually going on a family trip to Ireland as a reward for after she actually goes to some sort of treatment for a while. Idk, definitely tinfoil, but I’m curious if any anons think it could be possible. It’s what I would do as a parent.

In some way, I envy her. I eventually had to turn away from cutting/ed/drugs/alcohol, etc. because I actually wanted to heal. For me, the trick is to do more socially acceptable bodily experiences because I have no desire for others to know I was mentally ill literally. Tattoos are another good alternative though I don't love how they're permanent and they don't always hurt enough. Working out is good, but you need to let yourself eat. What helped with that was learning to taste so you enjoy food as an experience in a luxurious, slow way, not a desperate, obsessive way. I think plastic surgery is yet another experience I want to go through, though I'm not sure where to start. I just like the experience of my body going through something and physically healing or being affected. I still wish I were ana and could cut. The most I let myself do now is smoke cigarettes on vacation. I wish, in a way, I could let go of my adult life and be a helpless baby that just fucks around like Luci.
For the record, I find her pathetic and awful. I just miss the parts that remind me of myself.

I think that there are five major factors that determine the long-term health of a thread:
* Uniqueness: Is the cow actually doing things that are heinous relative to other people in their scene/subculture – i.e. are their antics actually worth talking about? If no, people who flock to their thread will probably have ulterior motives. Most of the generals are good examples – they usually don't feature people who actually stand out for being shitty and so turn into run-of-the-mill scene gossip threads, which isn't the worst thing ever but isn't super interesting unless you care about the subculture.
* Drama: But being an actual cow isn't sufficient; does the subject of the thread cause drama? If not then the thread will be full of people airing their grievances and nitpicking.
* Cow activity: Is the cow active enough to sustain discussion? This is self-explanatory
* Cow's social capital: If the subject of the thread is (or was) extremely popular and/or attractive, it's going to invite lots of posters who are jealous and trying to tear them down a peg to make themselves feel better. If the subject is extremely undesirable, it's going to invite lots of posters who use them to build themselves up.
* Cow's subculture: Does the cow belong to a scene or subculture that has a lot of participants on lolcow? While some of the most interesting threads here have been from wildcards and extremely niche scenes (e.g. springs1, the eunuch sisters), they can't sustain themselves for long periods of time if there aren't enough low-quality posters willing to bump their threads when nothing else is happening. This of course produces conflict because low-quality posters are necessary for keeping threads alive, but too many of them will cause even a promising thread to go to shit.
* The stakes of the antics: Is what the subject of the thread doing having a severe negative impact on themselves or innocent victims, is it silly or low-stakes, or is it somewhere in-between? Either end of the spectrum doesn't inherently make a thread good or bad but can act as a modifier given the other circumstances
* Audience intent: All of the above determines who is participating in a given thread and why
Examples:
* Lori: Lori is a true cow and probably one of the only truly evil people on this website. While she used to cause a ton of drama, her online presence is extremely repetitive so her thread isn't interesting; it's kept alive by people nursing old grudges and younger costhots who point and laugh at the 'old hag' to build their self-esteem.
* Springs1: Caused tons of one-off bouts of drama and posted frequently, and was anonymous, which resulted in a really fun thread, but because she wasn't part of a subculture activity died within days.
* Venus: A true cow with pretty consistent drama, but because she was a top weeb and she's in a spiral of self-destruction, it filters out people who just want to have fun being voyeurs
* Pixyteri: Nearly zero activity and drama maybe once in a few years, but the thread has decent vibes when it does get bumped because nobody has self-interested motives for visiting it
* Amanda: Cow, lots of drama, posts frequently, isn't attractive or popular but isn't ugly or fat enough to attract the kinds of people who are repulsive enough to build their self-esteem off of her. Audience consists of a decent amount of people who know her but she's enough of a cow that their commentary actually benefits the thread
* Kero the Wolf: The thread had it all but because the subject matter was so horrific many anons understandably wanted to either get police involved or hide the thread
* Nourish2Florish: Completely non-dramatic but unique and non-enviable or -repulsive enough that discussion about her is fun easy-reading
* Greg: Another truly evil cow that at one point generated constant high-stakes drama and was popular enough as a youtuber for loads of people to get invested but not desirable or enough in any way to attract jealous weirdos. Thread isn't necessarily bad now but his lack of activity and drama pretty much killed it
