Season 3 is not so much "shit" (to me) but more complicated, your enjoyment is based on how interesting you find the main case and worldbuilding. >>371046>>371052S3 butchers every character from the first season. It renders all that happened in S1 meaningless. It could be an entirely stand-alone story, with a new cast, but the writers just couldn't themselves and had to bait the audience with the previous characters, ruining them in the process. The story doesn't even fit the themes of Psycho Pass - it's just another 'cops chase the bad guys, mysteries abound' show, whereas S1 (and even S2) focused a lot on the system itself and the psychology of its actors. S3 just recycles the previous two seasons, without offering anything new. There was potential in how it tried to focus on immigration, but no new grounds were covered here either. What was the point of Karina again? Bifrost amounted to nothing. It seems like the writers just threw ideas at the wall, but had no clue how to handle them or weave them into the story. S1 and S2 were narratively tight - S3 is all over the place. Things happen…just because. Don't think too hard about it.

I can't believe fellow yumefujosisters are thirsting over the men in this. Please someone explain the appeal of this anime.

>>372626>>372623>>372600Both shows have its strong and weak points, I prefer the Brotherhood version because it has an unironic happy ending while 2003's really depressed me. Personally what I dislike and like are…
2003 (Good)
>The more sombre tone, which is more is fitting for a show where a war is currently taking place.>Ed having a more realistic personality for someone who had been through so much trauma. Looking back, Brotherhood Ed was more of the typical shouneny hero.>Mustang being responsible for the Rockbell parents death. Really added more grey areas to Amestris's military (and story drama).>Lust getting more characterization other than "hawt evil woman">The war on Ishval having more nuanced reasons for starting (in FMA:B it was such an obvious Good Guys vs. Bad Guys scenario), as well as showing the consequences it has on the regular Ishavalans (them being harassed, their refugee situation)>Chopper being a legitimate threat than some funny comic relief>Ed not ending up with Winry. No hate to this ship or anything, but in FMA:B her entire characterization seemed to revolve around being his love interest.2003 (Bad)
>Whatever the fuck Conqueror of Shamballa was. >Hohenheim being an even worse father and having an ugly design.>Rose's rape. It was never shown, and it' supposed to show the reality regular women endure during war—but my God, it left a bad taste in my mouth>Dante as an antagonist was super lame.>How they massacred my smooth criminal Kimblee's character and gave him that awful hairstyle.>Alchemy's energy source coming from our world???????>The way homonculus came from dead people completely ruined the entire "seven deadly sins" theme>Trisha being sloth. Ruined the whole equivalent exchange theme, and kind of made Ed's whole moving on from your grief journey pointless. And some other stuff..

But then I prefer the Homunculi being made from humans too. It immediately makes them more relatable and tragic. Trisha/Sloth didn't have a lot of screentime but her simultaneously wanting to be her own person but being unable to help herself from caring for another child and ultimately being unable to kill her sons is pretty interesting stuff. Izumi's extra angst over her son and having to choose between him and her students/adoptive sons is powerful. There's a big emphasis on motherhood in 03 and Dante is a rejection of motherhood and nurturing in favor of complete self-obsession. She's not perfect but she's complimentary with the themes of 03.

>>374442>>374460That's not true. It's some dumb tabloid (I think Comicbook?) that spread that. It was just a generic interview where the interviewer called Loid landsome and then the author joked in the manner of "riajuus like him should explode".
>>374346I think SxF is a cute inoffensive series, but everything about Kaguya-sama and specifically Akasaka Aka pisses me off. He pretty much embodies so many things I hate. He's completely insufferable in the interviews. He loves to cite himself as "creative genius born into family of creatives" (his father was a producer and sales & marketing on old Enix games and never held any creative position, since then he was executive director of marketing and sales for American branch of Square Enix, vice director of overseas expansion of Capcom and lead of "East meets West" initiative (yes, he was in charge of DmC era of Capcom), COO of American branch of Level-5 (yes, he was in charge of the entire catastrophic Yokai Watch flop). But beyond his poor initiatives, he's obviously super wealthy. Aka was born into massive wealth and he acts like he's plucky underdog. His comedy lands well sometimes, but all of his "serious" arcs are incredibly cringy tangents about how we live in society and le dark side of business that only he's privy to, but at the same time half-assedly excusing it and featuring creepy-ass pedophilia, grooming and incest. He monetized Hana Kimura's death without even asking permission from her family and had gall to release it on her death's anniversary for clicks, and then completely ignored it when his rabid fanbase and media tore Hana's mother into bits. And his art is fucking awful, really wish Mengo wasn't on OnK to bait zoomers into it and allowing him to have reach beyond Kaguya redditors.

It has 1 episode about human trafficking (I think?? its been years) but its related to the plot/characters. Also very gay not sure if you're into that or not.
>Oshi ga Budoukan Ittekuretara Shinu 7.44Cutest show about an idolfag loving her underground female oshi. I loved the mc so much and in general the show was just very funny.
>Bishounen TanteidanSHAFTs attempt at Ouran. (Just kidding. Maybe.) I personally enjoyed it but a lot of people I speak to found it boring. It wasn't a life-changing show but it was still a good watch! >Nami yo Kiitekure 7.36Part-timer finds a job as late night radio host, I dont remember much about the story but I remember really loving the mc. She was a hilarious hot mess and I thought it was rare to see main characters like her
>Sugar Apple Fairy Tale 7.46Reminiscent of old school shoujo. The animation and style is actually pretty i can admit it but i had to watch like 3 seasons of it back then because my (female) friends somehow thought it was a cool anime and told me i should cosplay Hanekawa kek, i really tried but i honestly regret watching it.
There are some interesting characters (in the end i did like Hanekawa after all), story progressions and music but honestly it's not worth it for all that disgusting fetishism, if you want something "deep" or pretty it's better to look somewhere else.
As far as i've experienced Monogatari is just a pernrotted harem series that tries to have a oh so deep story sometimes also let me a-log real quick but there is something so disgusting about being a harem series with more than one loli, at least some shows have the "decency" of limiting to one or making their own loli show because not every sweaty otaku is a lolicon fanatic yet.

I personally enjoyed it because I'm used to that shit in anime but I honestly find it hard to recommend to others especially other women, the loli shit is really offputting for example and they should've just had cute loli girls without sexualizing them, but since it's scrote aimed of course they had to make it sexual. their designs are cute so it would've been fine if they weren't constantly sexualized. the toothbrush shit is retarded too and is from the worst season of the series (nisemonogatari).
>>376318I knew so many moids who hated her when her arc is actually pretty good and my favorite part of the series. all about a flawed girl letting go of her shame and the feeling of having to be cute and harmless with no agency of her own. her development as a character in general is pretty good and it's also funny seeing moids seethe at her new short hair design when it's perfectly alligned with the way her character changes. >>376361>>376372That's a pretty common complaint with it too, a lot of people just find nisio isin's writing style pretentious or fake deep. I can see it but I honestly still enjoyed the dialogue, I don't consider it actually deep at all but it was still entertaining so it's more so the excessive fanservice for the girls that bothered me. For the actual writing it feels like you either vibe with it or you don't and find it annoying and pretentious, one of my friends disliked it for the same reasons. Also that image reminded me they did "fanservice" shots of araragi sometimes too, I'd honestly dislike the fanservice less if they had objectified him and the other male characters to the same degree as the female ones, like it'd still be bad but at least it wouldn't feel so one sided.

their entire internships, i.e. the beginning of their experience as actual C-healers crammed into half of an episode was kinda bullshit.
They should have dedicated a whole episode to the internships, then end the episode in a dramatic cliffhanger with the phone messages, then have at least half an episode of them helping with the fire before they help the girl on the plane and end the series with the three minute song sequence. It's weird because that bit with the phone message really felt like it was meant to be a cliffhanger between episodes. At first I found Reimi's obsession with their teacher lady kinda icky, but it ended up growing on me and I started to find it cute.

>>376794Nta but super powers and fights are like the whole point of fiction because it can never happen irl, so it's fun to consume in media. Romance is so basic and boring, and not everyone actually wants to be in a romantic relationship, so they aren't interested in watching/reading mundane stories about romance. I watched a shoujo anime once because it's a musical anime and it did have great music but the drama was so fucking cringy, I couldn't take the romance and the characters' feelings seriously at all. They were so juvenile, and tbf they're just highschoolers but they were so annoying. The only characters I liked were side ones, too who don't get much screen time kek. The main romance is between a girl and 2 guys fighting over her, one is creepy and possessive about her but it's ok because he's a shouta or something, the other kept pushing her away and trying to distance himself from her but it's ok because his mom is
abusive and forces him to do that or something. I like the second guy more though, he eventually squares up and tells her the truth and apologizes iirc, while the other annoying guy doesn't, and she ends up with the one I tolerate more kek. Never read the manga though and got the ending spoiled, but there isn't anything worth reading it for anyways.

Words can not describe how disappointed I am in The Fable anime adaptation. It's funny how bad it is but all funny in the wrong way. Such a tragedy. It's like they sent the manga pages to a foreign anime sweatshop and machine translated it for a one-time group slideshow presentation and the animation team were shown that and worked off it to develop the show. I feel like I tend to "normally" like/love stuff but I havent had that obsessive 24/7 on-the-brain love with a franchise or particular show in a long while (maybe since 2016). >>378074>>378081kek i need to make a youtube video about it. But basically i think BC is a modern retelling of Madame Bovary
both main characters are named emma. Both stories are about a young woman put into a world full of men who are just horny bastards but both emma convince themself they're all in love with her. In BC you think it's love because it's in the romance genre but it's all meta, the anime is no romance ! The weird think is that the anime gives us access to only one of the brother's thoughts, Yusuke, the coldest one toward ema. In the anime it's because he's been in love with her for years and he's just shy but i think it's just ema trying to find excuses as to why one of the brother doesn't try to sleep with her, so she makes up his thoughts.
In the OAV, all brothers cleraly state they are in love with ema, in the end it's just a dream but ema doesn't take responsability for dreaming of men being in love with her, she has to be oblivious, like a good shojo/ otome heroine, so she blames her pet (and she is the only one who can hear him speaks) for making her dream something naughty ? You can watch BC and see not an ounce of love, horny men behaviour at best, the only reason we assume they would give the world to her is because the anime and ema are trying to convince us. The opening is full of symbolism, like the red string of fate which actually never touch any of the brothers, none of them are connected to ema, non of them actually kiss her. The whole opening she is facing the opposite direction of the brothers, because she actually reads the situation in the wrong way.

>>378365Part 3 has its moments when it comes to humor and action/fights, and the characters aren't bad either, but it's a bit long and repetitive so you gotta power through it and through the 1st half of part 4 to get to the good stuff when Jojo finally finds its footing. Second half of part 4 is insane and gets you the edge of your seat, and while I hate part 5 protagonist, the overall story was fun and it added world building elements, and the villain is just great for me. He's so unhinged and kinda hot. Part 6 is also great and among my top 3 jojo parts along with 8 and 7. The manga for 7 and 8 are also so worth powering through parts 1-5 for. 6 is part of my golden trio so I won't say you have to power through it kek.
Part 4 is when Araki starts experimenting with darker themes and more insane villains, but part 6 is when it truly gets tragic and unbelievably dark, and parts 7 and 8 follow suit. I like part 8's drama and vibes more than part 7, but I admit part 7 had more sad stuff because of the big number of characters who went through so much fucked up shit. Part 8 has fewer characters going through shit, but one in particular is the most tragic. Part 9 doesn't seem to continue the plot about that character though unfortunately.

I love women but I hate infantalizing moe shit—and unfortunately female characters in anime tend to be just that. Can you guys rec me any anime featuring women (majority cast, prefferably) that doesn't have moe slop in it? Like office ladies or teachers. Picrel is my longtime crush, she's a skilled bartender at a divebar in a mutually constructive rivalry with another one of the female bartenders in the series. You'll see female characters from all walks of life though, from OLs temporarily in the job while seeking to get married, women building their careers, or well-established careerwomen who have become disillusioned or burnt out with their work. People are just people.

It looks cutesy but it's more of a down to earth SoL with surprisingly fleshed out worldbuilding. The creator has a well-researched love for nature, folk craft, and food that really shines through in the series.
The main characters are the titular Hakumei and Mikochi, who live together. They make their living while enjoying life's simple pleasures, Hakumei being a skilled carpenter and Mikochi respected in their community as a seamstress (encompassing everything in the trade starting from dyeing the materials herself)/chef.

>>383986KnY is great when you don't have people endlessly bitching about it in your ear. I've enjoyed the manga since it started releasing. It stood out for me among other shounen for its very brisk pace (in the manga at least, anime is waaaay slower) and feeling really earnest. This kind of story kind of became rare, with everything being subversive and meanspirited. The fights were really enjoyable and utilized characters well, they felt like a desperate struggle against overwhelming enemies. I found the cast funny and cute, and while at the start it felt like it introduced too many characters at once, Gotouge really knew how to keep it manageable. I really enjoyed the little details like the way she drew eyes as well, another detail botched by the anime adaptation. Apparently some of the strength is lost in the translation as well - the characters express themselves in a poetic way that gives it a theatrical feel, which is lost on the international readers, especially considering how bad Viz's translation is.
From reading the interviews, I was impressed by Gotouge's work ethic. She and her first editor basically sat down and wrote down the entire plot at once, and then Gotouge meticulously cut out every part that wouldn't be 1000% necessary for the story to keep it concise and the pacing brisk. Everything else was relegated to the walls of text in side material. Apparently she wasn't a fan of flashbacks either - the editor was the one who interfered to tell her to keep them. And the anime adaptation went even further, dramatically extending every flashback and even inventing the new ones.
The sheer endless butthurt it caused to moid shounenfags is only cherry on the cake, it was really funny seeing OPfags have meltdowns over it, and they still do.
All in all, I recommend reading KnY over watching it, and I recommend finding the fan translation instead of the Viz one.

So here's my full review(???) of Conqueror of Shamballa and by extent FMA03. I rewatched it only last month, so a lot of details and things I thought about it are fresh in my mind. This might sound a little scatterbrained though because I'm not a professional reviewer kek all of this is just my personal opinion. I might also divide it into a bunch of paragraphs, I know lolcow hates this but w/e this is just for fun
So in general, I do believe the movie shouldn't had been made, at least not in the current form it's presented in. I get it, FMA03 was open ended, and making a movie of a popular anime is profitable. Before brotherhood, FMA03 was regarded as one of the best anime to watch, at least internationally, it was up there with Ghost in the Shell even. I'm sure it was just a popular in Japan, given evidence. However, there were plenty of important cut scenes that were going to get added to close some importan character development, mainly for Winry, Roy, and Wrath. The studio originally wanted to turn this into a full fledged season (which I also have problems with kek more on that later) and I've heard that one of the reasons why this didn't happen was because the studio was eager to move onto brotherhood as fast as possible. Shamballa came out in 2005, brotherhood in 2009, so I'm not sure how much of that is true. I still think of the movie as an incomplete piece of media though, mainly because that's how it ends itself. Incomplete. Unsatisfactory. Dumb. The movie by itself tries to be something it isn't and it ends up being jarring.
The same people who worked on Shamballa were the same people who directed FMA03. They are very hit or miss, in FMA03 there's very, very good moments that I enjoyed that are surrounded by weird choices that took me away from it. For example, I love when Edward kills Greed, holy shit that fight animation and that scream at the end. Vidrel. It was such a key moment in 03 Edward's character development and I loved it, but the whole "I'm Greed and I will go to Dante's house for no reason hehe" moment that precedes it basically didn't help my suspension of disbelief at all. If you don't remember, the homonculi in this anime can be killed with their human remains and transmutation circle, Dante was Greed's creator in this series and she wanted to kill him. Dumb move. His lackeys barely doing anything but kidnapping Alphonse also annoyed me. There's waaay more moments like these that I could talk about, like for example how the fuck could Scar survive so many bullets repeatedly before transmutting Liore into a philosopher's stone? Why is Hohenhaim such a retard good for nothing? Etc.
But in the end there's things I really do enjoy in FMA03, one of the things I loved the most in this version is when Alphonse had his identity crisis about being an armor it is treated completely seriously and Alphonse has a little arc about it. You could tell Edward was very worried and so was Winry. In brotherhood this shit was resolved so fast with a simple "gO apOloGizE to EDDIE for DOUBTING HIM!!" from Winry and that was it. Kek it's so idiotic. I will continue in my next post because I want to leave a different vid in it.
No. 385022
>>385007So another thing I loved about FMA03 was the ending. Ngl, I do love a good bittersweet ending, and the brothers being basically split up on their own journeys to find each other again left me hopeful. The way they both look at the sky at the same time legit made me cry all over again like when I was a dumb child just getting into anime. I wasn't even expecting that because I already knew that it was going to happen and yet it totally got me. Maybe watching the scene by itself isn't that touching but after seeing how much Alphonse and Edward went through here, it made me so fucking sad. Like, Alphonse gets arguably a bit suicidal after becoming the philosopher stone, and Edward has to mature so fast to keep up with an adult world. The brotherly fraternal bond between them is so real. I could continue with everything else I liked about it but it would make this super long. The opening and ending songs are incredible too, my favorite being the 2nd ending theme, I just love how Edward looks at his metallic hand with the snowflakes not melting at all and then the next shot shows Alphonse covered in snow, representing everything they lost. I like it! Give me more moody stuff please.
Again splitting my post because I want to leave a different video but I have to clarify, the Winry, Roy and Wrath cut scenes are from Shamballa, not from FMA03. Idk if I will elaborate on them or not but they were important and the movie feels empty without them. Also, just as a curious side note, FMA03 had like, one of those shitty "stare at the screen" rides at Universal Studios Japan kek. You can watch it if you search for the ova collection. That's why I think the anime wasn't doing as bad as people who are solely interested in brotherhood seem to think.
No. 385091
>>385022Before we continue I must say, I'm not a fujo, but I have consumed yaoi content in the past. I genuinely don't think Edward has chemistry with anyone, not even Winry, but I can tell that the direction that this was going was obviously Winry x Ed. I think both of them do like each other or at least care about each other very deeply just a little bit more than family/a friend would. But this is never truly fulfilled.
So where we left of, Edward got through the door into our world (so did Hohenhaim, and Envy in the for of a snake) and arrived into 1920 London, but his need to study a new method to go back to his world makes him travel to Germany with Hohenheim since anime alchemy is non existent in our world. Right of the bat, this whole "alchemy comes from the real world" comes out of left field for the viewer and all the characters involved, and it's trying to teach us that there's no such thing as equivalent exchange because all the alchemic powers are charged with the lives of real people from the other side dying. I get it, suffering of others to attain what you want will never be completely avoidable. But god, it really does come out of nowhere with very little warning. I have mixed views on this reverse Isekai situation, but in general it only left a sour taste after watching Shamballa.
We start the movie with a scene from Ed and Al's previous travels, first error of the movie is that this happens in an island in the middle of the ocean but Artemis, the country where they live, is land locked kek. Anyway, they're fighting some evil alchemist guy who basically I'm assuming becomes Oppenheimer in the real world, because he has a device that is, well, you know, it's made of uranium. He accidentally opens the door and travels to our world by himself, and his island or whatever then auto destructs. Ed and Al have to escape the place and it's such a wonderful colorful anime world outside, they have a funny moment together (made me want to see more of that), then the world turns grayer/more beige (sad and ugly), and then it turns out it was just a flashback and Edward was re telling to Alphons Heiderich, the gay(?) real world version of Alphonse Elric.
So far my thoughts are: wow the anime world is way better than our shitty one, who the fuck would want to live here. And second, why is Alphons hanging out with a guy who basically I'm assuming just came into his life out of nowhere and said "hey you look like my brother from my world and I want to build a rocket so I can go back there" like kek excuse me? Edward really comes off as a schizo this entire movie. Like actually schizoposting levels of delusional considering no one in his world knows wtf he's talking about. Alphons the entire time is just like "haha ok" and is semi amused by Ed's antics. In any case, they do live together and go to the same university, Edward is studying physics and Alphons engineering. Like I think Alphons might be gay or at least very stupid to let a schizo guy like Ed in his life, but Ed is too focused on going back to his world to care. Btw another funny detail I forgot to mention, Edward thinks Albert Einstein is full of shit kek. Like, at the end of the series when Hohenheim mentions there's this guy called Einstein who could have the key for Edward to go back to his world, Edward is like "nah that guy's retarded" kek. Like, ok lmao.
In any case, then we see they encounter some Roma people, and Noah, the Rose expy, comes in. She's a fortune teller with actual divination powers so she can tell that Edward doesn't come from this world. This makes Noah and Edward bond a little, but not in any way that is meaningful. I think Noah likes Ed, but she's mostly interested in him because she feels like she has no place in her world so she wants to travel to his. This is weird because 1.The entire movie is always telling you that "the gypsies are liars not to trust" (literally Hughes says this wtf) but this is obviously racist, and then turns out Noah does indeed betray Edward. Like, wow. 2.When Edwards crosses the gate into his anime world again, Noah is like "TAKE ME WITH YOU EDWARD!!" But Ed is literally piloting an aircraft, there's no way to stop too, and girl Edward barely knows you from some days ago, who tf are you?
Also, there's a small fanservicey moment between them but it mostly comes of as whatever because Ed us sleeping and she touches his forehead with hers to see his sleeping memories of Artemis. Edward is not interested in her and at the end of the movie this is made pretty clear too. The only thing he cares about is his own journey.
Btw, I'm choosing to say Roma and not "gypsy" on purpose because in the same movie, Noah tells Ed to not call them that. I appreciate that detail tbh. But here's another thing I really disliked: while the themes of racism, war, and prejudice are very important in the original anime, in the movie they just go sooo fucking hard at it. It becomes so fucking cringe, I'm talking about actual cringe not just embarrassing but hard to watch, it's so on the nose and all the Hitler / Nazi shit feels a bit forced and distasteful. I wish they got rid of those scenes instead of the IMPORTANT ones with Roy, Winry and Wrath. Like wtf? They were either trying to be very edgy or someone in the team was an historyfag otaku.
This post is long enough so I will continue in the next one kek. But one thing that also made me initially excited as I was watching was the OP song they chose, Link by L'arc en Ciel. Like, wow, what a way to open. All these scenes from the anime took me back, and by the end it made me depressed that we didn't get more of that and instead we got stupid WW2 shit. Vid rel, I like this song a lot
No. 385146
>>385091So it comes off as a big surprise that the most memorable moments of this movie are actually the ones from the real (shitty) world, just on the basis on how bizzarre they are, even though we do see a fair amount of anime world in here. On the other side, we can see Alphonse Elric has grown quite a bit after studying more alchemy to bring Ed back, and he kinda looks like his brother now I guess. The ponytail looks bad on him not gonna lie kek. Where we left off in the anime he was still a 10 year old when Edward got back his movie, and I think 2-3 years have passed since? So he's like, physically and mentally 12, because he also lost all his memories of the time when he was an armor in this version. Edward was like, 15-16 at the end of the series so by the time Shamballa happens he's now 18. There's nothing important about that but I wanted to mention it. Edward is still as short as ever so they kinda look the same, but Al is basically still a child and by the end they're stuck together in a shit world with no alchemy powers or support from loved ones.
Going back to the shitty real world though, Edward misses his alchemy powers very bad, but he's not completely useless as he still knows how to fight. Still, he's literally powerless and he has a limited supply of less than ideal mechanic arms and legs that his dad built for him, they haven't found the real life version of Winry yet I guess but judging by the timeframe they're in let's just say I doubt she would be a prosthetics engineer (sadly). After some more shenanigans and because germans are obsessed with occult stuff, they open a portal to the anime world. The funny thing is, after all, alchemy was actually possible in the real world!!!! Only thing is that no one, not even Edward realizes how to make it work, but the viewers do, which is really annoying to me to be honest. The key is to use blood from someone from the anime side, not a sacrifice, just a bit of blood is fine, Edward had a little accidental cut and even that was enough. Which makes all these sacrifices fucking pointless because the only thing preventing them to go back is absolute retardation.
As the bad guys are getting prepared to isekai themselves into a better world while Hitler does a crazy speech, Edward tells Alphons Hieredich to stop building the aircraft they're working on to pass through the gate because "people in my world will die". Alphons is obviously pissed because helping build the aircraft is his final way to shine, he finally did something relevant in his life, he was recruited by the party because he's a young smart blond and blue eyed white boy (yes. The movie mentions this.) and schizo Edward with his fairy tales about another better world (that as far as Alphons and everyone else knows, it doesn't exist) isn't going to take this moment from him.
Some more shenanigans happen and to connect both worlds you need to make a special type of alchemic circle on the ground at the same time so they can travel through. The bad guys get in, including some crazy Nazi woman (the big bad of the movie) and she starts destroying shit literally just because. Like, her whole deal is that she wanted to go to "Shamballa" (anime world) to find true paradise. She gets there and the first thing she does? Fucking destroy it all kek. So obviously everyone is on the case now. Alphons Heiderich does a final good deed towards Edward and asks him to please stop the crazy lady, he tells Edward that he's dying (coughing blood from inhaling too much rocket fuel) and shows him how to pilot an aircraft in like 3 seconds. Kek. In the end he's killed by gunshot, but in his eyes, his sacrifice isn't in vain because he finally helped Edward go back to the place he belongs. He dies happy. Oh Alphons, if you only knew.
So then in the other world, Al and Ed finally meet again. There's no emotional "running and hugging my long lost brother" moment (if you have played Luigi's Mansion you might know what I mean kek), they're almost immediately back into action. Winry is also there, and for some magical reason she already knew Ed would show there so she was prepared with a new automail for him. How does she know how tall Ed has gotten? Dunno. Movie logic I guess. They share some nice moments together, but that's it. It's time to go defeat Nazi Lady.
So far, we've had multiple people sacrificing themselves or getting hurt so the brothers can see each other again: on Ed's side we have Hohenheim, Envy, Alphons, and arguably Noah. On Al's side, we have Wrath, and holy shit, his fight scene is the best fucking fight scene in the entirety of FMA03. Vid rel. Although an important part of the movie was cut to fit in more Hitler, he does get a good send off in the end. It was the only part in the movie that made me cry. Vid rel for the fight.
I will try to finish in the next post I swear
No. 385185
>>385146And when I say the Nazi shit is very on the nose, it REALLY is on the nose. I thought that just like in FMA03 it all would be handled with subtlety, letting the viewer come to their own conclusions, but no. Idk, it was honestly midly annoying, I'm here to watch anime, not a history channel documentary kek. Jk, but it did feel very jarring to me. It is well researched but honestly even a WW2 power point presentation done for school would be.
Back to "everyone is now on the anime side" part. Roy Mustang was very depressed as his rank was lowered for killing King Bradley, and he's living alone in the mountains full of regret. There was a scene between him and Winry where they would have had talked about how there's necessary evil in war or something like that, and that would had been a way to push Roy into fighting for the greater good again, and Winry would had finally forgiven him for killing her parents in the war. This doesn't happen, Roy overcomes his depression just like that, and then helps the two brothers defeat the Bad Lady.
Before defeating her though, Ed and Al are running through Central, seeing the evils of Bad Lady flying around in an aircraft. Alphonse witnesses some people die in the casualty and crumbles down in despair. Cue Edward telling him this very important thing (paraphrasing): "It's not just us anymore Al. We are part of the world. All is one and One is all. We need to protect everyone". Which is amazing! The brothers have learnt so much in their journey, they realize that
others are important too, specially the people you love, and that they shouldn't do things alone.
Tell me why then, by the end of the movie, they're alone and stuck in a world where NO ONE who loves them can see them anymore. Basically, as Ed and Al defeat Bad Lady inside the plane she's piloting, he pushes Al towards Roy, and tells him he will go back to Germany to close the portal from the other side. Understandable, as he doesn't want both sides to be connected and cause interdimensional war. But, wouldn't just closing the one from his side be enough? Germans are allegedly too retarded to figure out alchemy anyway. And they need the blood of someone from Amestris to open the gate, so by traveling back THEY ARE giving them a chance to attack again by using them to make another warp point. Unless they kept it hidden there would be no way to know, but Hohenheim was actively helping the Nazi with his alchemy research, and they know Ed is his son. Hmmm.
The only reason why Alphonse is there with him is because he hid himself as Ed was traveling back. That's the only reason why they're together. He was willing to leave Alphonse behind just because he felt an obligation with our world, to "protect it", which makes absolutely no sense. He felt an obligation to come back and stay here because of Noah, a girl he only met recently, German Hughes, who is a cringe Nazi, and Alphons, who is dead. What the fuck? Are you leaving Alphonse and Winry, people you MISS and constantly sperged about, for some literally who's? He's wasting everyone's sacrifice for him, the sacrifices they made so he could be with his loved ones again, with his brother, and he has the retarded emo anime choice to leave it all behind. Yes, I'm calling it emo anime choice because I'm sure no real person would do this kek. The saddest part is when Winry looks at the sky, realizes Ed is making this retarded choice, and she says "Alright Ed, I won't be waiting for you anymore". Edward comes off as extremely selfish, if they wanted to make him look as retarded as Hohenheim when he left Trisha then congratulations he did the same thing to Winry.
At least Ed is happy Alphonse is stuck with him now I guess. Roy closes the portal back home, the portal in Germany closes as well (no, Edward literally can't close it even though he said he would do it himself, so magically it just closes. Just like that. Like DUH of course, you can't use alchemy retard), a funeral is made for Gay German Alphons, no single word is spoken again to Noah (though they do share a ride I think) aaaaandddd that's it. The last thing Edward says is that they have to protect this gay earth from the upcoming war (good luck with that with no magical anime powers) and that the least they can do is detain the Oppenheimer guy that I mentioned earlier and idk I guess send him back or something because even after all these years, Edward is pretty much anti killing. Yes he only killed the homonculi because he didn't think of them as humans. Hm. Okay.
Soooo that's the end. How to solve all this bullshit? After so much thought, the only way I can see this is if Edward and Alphonse somehow use Oppenheimer's alchemist powers to go back to the anime world. That sentence was so bizarre to type out wtf. And if you think "hey maybe at least they stopped WW2 and the bombs and everything!!!" No they didn't kek. At the end of the premium ova collection I also mentioned earlier there's a small clip of Edward in present day Japan where he's sitting there and the clip says he's like 100 years old now and also he has a picture with Barak Obama even though when the ova was released he wasn't even president back then kek, how did they predict it? Idk so many thoughts head full. I feel like if they really did stop Oppenheimer then modern day Japan would had looked differently, but that's just me. Vid rel to see what I mean.
Also unless he did the same as Hohenheim to live up to 100 years (using the philosopher stone to transplant his body) then him being as old doesn't make sense.

Shamballa was completely unnecessary as it feels like a shoehorned unfinished product, the original 03 ending was more satisfying even if the series as a whole had its problems, the movie at times feels like it loses its way into being historically accurate to a fault, we didn't need so many shots of Hitler acting cRaZy and we could had spent that time developing the characters we already were invested in. Real life sucks, the anime world is cooler, gay ass choice to make Ed stay in our world.

>>388253I think that Frieren was extremely overrated. It captured a certain mood very well, it had some wonderfully animated scenes, the themes are interesting, and there's some concrete ideas in it that I like, like how it realistically implements powercreep in-universe. However, I am absolutely baffled that so many people call it a 10/10.
It's so predictable that it almost wraps back around to being surprising. For example, during the fight with Aura, the
one mechanic is that whoever has more mana wins. This is explained repeatedly and agonizingly slowly. Then, Frieren challenges Aura, and Aura just accepts it uncritically. But… really? You think the elf who killed the Demon King would walk up to you to challenge you to a fight that she should be guaranteed to lose? Even though you know that she fully knows and understands the rules? Are demons retarded? They're masters of deception but can't consider the possibility that there is some fact they're not aware of going into a fight?
The characterization of the demons in general sucks ass. I think the idea of them being creatures that cynically mimic human speech for manipulation without understanding the words is really interesting, but this isn't portrayed consistently at all. If they don't understand the words they're saying, just making noises that successfully manipulate humans, then why the fuck do they talk to each other to exchange information? Clearly they understand the fucking words! Why do they clearly feel things like sadness and pride? People will do all sorts of mental gymnastics to try and justify this. "well actually they only EVOLVED from creatures that don't understand speech, but now they actually understand it, but please ignore that one demon that literally didn't understand what a father is, even though that's consistent with most of the demon lore, and they don’t feel emotions at all, except for the bad ones that human sociopaths feel, but also they’re fundamentally different from humans." Sorry, but there’s just no overcoming the contradictions that are present in the text.
Any time you point out any of these flaws, people bend over backwards to try to justify why it's actually better that way or that it actually makes Frieren so deep, but I'm just completely unconvinced.
Other misc complaints:
>Frieren is almost never recognized, despite the fact that her companion Himmel is very widely recognized, and she's a very distinctive white-haired elf>The fantasy world is extremely stock isekai fantasy world>The running gags are god-awful>The characters all act the same. Their "personalities" are just little quirks and tropes thrown on top of the same extremely reserved, autistic, and bland stock NPC. >Himmel's love for Frieren is not at all compelling, and it is the foundation of the emotional aspect of the story.>The character interactions feel as if they were written in order to model correct behavior to 8 year olds>The anime will state that something will happen and then start building anticipation for it. >Because you know it will happen, you instead start anticipating that a minor twist of some sort will happen. Instead, you sit through a full episode of hardly anything happening, and then the thing that they said would happen at the beginning of the episode happens. It's extremely unsatisfying and anticlimactic.>Warrior power scaling isn't explained at all>It pretends to be about what you do in a world where the evil has already been defeated, but they spend half the show continuing to defeat evil anyways>The 1st class mage arc feels so pointless and has a bunch of unlikable and unskilled characters, some of which are straight-up delusional for thinking that they could be 1st class mages>The imagination aspect of the magic system has extreme implications for the lore that I refuse to believe that the author has actually thought through. If it’s not unlimited, how is it different from just inventing new spells? The anime clearly wants to say that they're fundamentally different, but it's just too much.>They explain that to maximize defense magic efficiency, you make the smallest shield possible for the smallest amount of time possible. However, they typically do not animate this properly. >They usually draw a static assortment of little shields that do not appear or disappear, and the projectiles hit them, which makes it appear as if the enemies are aiming for the shields and not for the massive gaps in their defenses. (Normally, I would not care so much, but people excessively praise the fight scenes, so I have to point it out.)>Constant, drawn-out, and unnecessary flashbacks with scenarios that are sometimes very transparently created specifically to support whatever is happening in the present time.I guess I can safely say that I do think most people would find it very hard to honestly rate it below a 5/10, while most anime are much more polarizing, which helps keep its score high. But even then, I don't understand why so many people rate it 9 or 10/10. I kind of get the feeling that a lot of people were quick to very publicly praise the anime when the first 4 or so episodes aired, as they emotionally resonated with these episodes quite a lot. And as the show went on, they didn't really try to re-evaluate their opinion at all.

>Himmel's love for Frieren is not at all compelling, and it is the foundation of the emotional aspect of the story.I've seen snippets of it, and him being a pervert cheapens it out instantly. I'll probably try to watch the first episodes at least so I can gauge a better opinion, but this series still looks painfully uninteresting to me. And very much lolibait which is eugh.

Can we talk about jojo and araki pls? Specifically about the fact how he became a massive coomer in the latest parts. Like its always has been obvious that he is ~awkward~ when it comes to women and fetishizes them. But at least at the beginning it just manifested as him not writing female characters at all. The moment when he started to give more prominent roles to them was the moment when he got so much more progressively pornsick, its incredible. Like it all started with jolyne fanservise in pt6: panties shit, naked "examination", "zomg sex snails", etc. But then sbr happened and the shit he has been doing with lucy steel is just so damn creepy and coomer, its not even funny. Where do i even start… 1) literally 14 jailbait, yet acts like a mommy to her elderly husband (arranged marriage), 2) super short dress and constant fanservise shots, 3) literally has a couple of semi-naked covers (and naked manga panels) like picrel, 4) gets constantly sexually assaulted by men and one woman (i am not even sure if there is a lucy steel interaction that doesnt involve sexual harassment). She is basically the only constant source of fanservise in that manga. Somehow in part 8 it gets even worse: yasuho too is constantly sexually harassed and sometimes assaulted (can he even make a female characters without her getting constantly creeped on by men?), characters mention porn casually, josuke boner and toru fingering - nuff said, one character literally rips clothes off his mom… Araki definitely got pornsick with age and I am very annoyed that noone mentions that. Like I know why: because the fanbase is 50% scrotes jerking off to lucy steel and another 50% draws all jojo husbandos in the ugliest faggy tumblr way possible and calls any objectified female character a queen. But still I find this situation very frustrating.
I am really just ragetyping all of this shit rn, so sorry if anything was incoherent.

Though, I have see people joke around that she "influenced" the writing because the author's other work, IB and Kaguya-sama, were different.
Not too sure though, could just be because he got divorced.

>>391484This is probably my favorite anime aside from Utena. Nana just hits different. She's an idiot who wants all her cake and to eat it too, but her boyfriend was a douchebag, she didn't do anything wrong in that aspect aside from going to Tokyo to be with him. The issue though is that he seemed interested in cheating and it was better for her to see it than for him to hide it even more months later because she wasn't there to see it.
Also the back and forth with Tamaki and Nobu.. Like damn. I don't know, messy relationships exist and I've been there, so maybe its the fact that the anime is set in realism in a few aspects that some nonnas just get thrown off. The addiction, panic attack stuff than Reira goes through, self harm, cheating, pregnancy.. If you keep with it, it does get really, really good. The manga stopped though which I'm so sad about because there hasn't been updates since the car crash.

the changes in the major's design are a great example of how things have devolved. although I guess if you go back all the way she was kind of a bubbly yuribait manic pixie dream girl type in the manga so maybe time is just a flat circle and all that. but even the manga was better than the instaslop version we have now. I need her to circle back to being ripped and over 18 years old again please

I hate what Twitter zoomers have done to her, and how she’s always listed under femcel memes!
It makes me so annoyed because it’s obvious they never bothered to read the manga, Tomoko gets a whole group of friends but she’s still her weird, offputting self. I think I just have a soft spot for her because ultimately she just wants connection and to see that misconstrued as “haha femcel, blackpilled waifu, terminally online like me” you will never be Tomoko.

I read it years back before dropping it early, iirc the mc acts nothing like his past self, he's basically just a really edgy teen, so people probably just think of it as the latter.

Then again, he is a loser manchild pedo who sees himself as an adult so its hard to figure.
There's probably some sliding scale.

>>391773Hahahaha you don't know the best part. The father is the main antagonist of the series. For more than a hundred chapters the manga pretended like it's a murder mystery, casting shade on every revealed older male character in the business. But then the author reveals a completely new character who looks EXACTLY like Aqua, who's a VERY famous actor and was actually 13 when he knocked Ai up. He's also a comically edgy evil psychopath who's so much of a genius actor that he just kills people randomly in open and nobody can trace it back to him because… um… he's a genius, ok?
The author also randomly introduced a literal god that plotdumped some of Ai's backstory and then made the sister find the doctor's body that was out in the open in random cave in the forest, and yet somehow nobody could find the body because the evil father is just that good.

>>391750>>391767I actually read the novel of Mushoku when I was deathly bored while stuck in a hospital about 10 years ago and I was surprised by how much I liked it. The recent anime is very well made as well. It's really baffling that the author just decided to soil the series with extremely creepy stuff from the get go when it could've been the widely beloved series. The author can actually write unlike 99% of other isekai that get pumped out on daily basis, and the anime is ridiculously high quality.
At least it inspired Faraway Paladin which has absolutely zero creepy stuff, but in exchange its anime kinda sucks.
