>>2529707>her art is amazing, yet Devil's candy is barely popular and is hanging on a thread, probably hasnt been finished/cancelled yet because its the passion project of the authorDamn kek, I don’t think Devil’s Candy is that unpopular. The first book’s kickstarter got 2072 backers at least and iirc it got a deal with Viz and was being sold in bookstores in other countries too. The fans are just more lowkey and it doesn’t seem to inspire as much memes and autism as stuff like homestuck or ava’s demon(too bad it took a huge hit in popularity with all the drama and hiatuses).
I agree with your point though. As someone who used to read Devil’s Candy, I would say it’s decent, but not particularly novel or interesting to me. It’s what I’d expect from a story about monsters made by anime fans.
I disliked how it fell into some shonen tropes for the female characters, like big titty waifu heroine, a few unnecessary fanservice moments, etc.
There’s also the shy girl who has an unrequited crush on her friend, the male lead. She’s thin and dainty uwu but is super strong while the males of her same species get to look big and buff, which made her focus chapter kind of eye-rolly because she gets “discriminated” against by other monsters for being a cyclops in a field where she doesn’t belong(fashion), except she just looks like your average cute anime girl but with a cyclops eye kek.
And even the flat-chested nerdy tomboyish girl spent a significant chunk of her focus chapters wearing fake boobs and dressed like a big titty witch.

I remember when the website had its own forum where I’d chat with other fans, and there were so many tumblr fanblogs, fanart, and fan ocs. But there was so much drama between fans as well as people calling Michelle fatphobic/acephobic/racist/enbyphobic/pedophilic/etcetera, as well as the website dealing with DDOS attacks. Even one of Michelle’s friends(Maya Kern, creator of Monster Pop) cut ties with her over something people were calling Michelle out for(can’t remember exactly, may be a sexualization of minors thing or a proshipper thing)
The blessing of a miniscule/nonexistent fandom is not dealing with all that.

DVC starts as a basic monster of the week but keep reading and an overarching plot forms, one that's actually pretty compelling. the themes criticise body modifications and surgery as weaker devils attach stronger frankenstein'd parts to themselves to social climb at the cost of their freedom. the criminal gang overseeing this business are the villains. accidental gender crit, let's go.

>>2530062recognisable characters. the biggest fandoms like HP have infinite self-insert potential with the setting.
fanworks at its core fill in gaps, the most well regarded art makes you want to leave it as is, fiction has to be some level of junkfood to get a fandom, because the worst parts activate our desire to 'fix.'
stories that are either overly fluffy or dark invite fandoms exploring the opposite. i.e gravity falls is a light-hearted kids show giving small hints at intrigue and danger beneath the surface so the fandom was largely AU's. something like attack on titan inspires memes to cope with the deaths, plus lots of fanfiction where everything is fine.
finally, having a story with lots of alternate paths and signposted 'what ifs' invite fans to write ff exploring what might have happened if a character did something different. or timetravel fix its.

Are you supposed to assume someone is a girl then if they wear a skirt or makeup instead by sex? I thought clothes don't have gender and that would be sexist stereotyping.
I know the gender person response would be that clothes themselves don't determine gender identity and there are "gender non-conforming" troons and you ask pronouns, but you also should try to determine if a troon is "obviously" trying to be stealth and not out someone by asking pronouns or if they're trans. This ideology is so retarded.

>>2529935> I feel like it deserves so much more popularity than what it has, considering the quality of the art and the entry level story telling. It’s because it’s not that interesting to be frank, and tsulala has no idea how to promote. She’s a boomer who hasn’t kept up with the times so she probably doesn’t know the most effective ways of promoting her comic. Also look at her Twitter, these days it’s just 90% her posting update posts of her comic which make her page look so ugly and boring, she barely posts normal art now. I’ve kept track of her followers and she’s always losing them at a steady rate. And there’s nothing memey or “hot” about devil’s candy for zoomers, which is why it can’t really get a hold of the largest group of comic/webcomic/manga consumers.
I’ve seen newer webcomics made from younger people, even zoomers, get much more hype on social media more than devils candy ever did which leads back to tsulala operating at an outdated fashion. I consider her and devils candy to be part of the old internet somewhat, she used to post on deviantart like everyone else for example which is a good indicator, and that’s part of why she’s often out of touch.
Also she drew these dungeon meshi fanart a while ago and it got a trillion likes and followers, but at this point she’s probably back from where she started because she did nothing with that momentum and her posts about original drawing flop kek

>>2532374This is the artwork I was speaking of. The actual quality of the art itself isn't an issue (even if I've seen much better), but the edgelord themes really get to me. This character in particular drives home the point. "Lady Oda the Pious", a theocracy/crusader avatar hidden behind a grimdark story. She has this tacked-on backstory about her dead husband (who was likely also a horrible person) that she cheated on. You can immediately discard it because it never comes into play.
Much of the art depicting her is borderline to straight-up sadism porn. Tell me you can't imagine this character in some sort of BDSM caption. There's no point to any of it. No commentary. It's gratuity for the sake of gratuity. It also doesnt help that the artist has a counterpart of this same character. "Crusader-chan". She's literally just coombait. Although the artist (for the most part) draws the women in a more realistic fashion, he doesnt hide at all that this is waifushit. An actual female artist I would give the benefit of a doubt, but this is a grimdark-obsessed moid.
He's made a whole screedpost about how he's being "unfairly criticized" for "glorifying the crusades", intentionally playing dumb. He can't own up to the fact that this character is either coombait or he's just really fucking bad at writing "complex" characters.

>>2534480NTA you should be doing both study and art you're passionate about at the same time, the best way to improve and remain motivated is to draw and study things you are interested in. >>2534480Ayrt, the other nona who replied is right. Spending hours on lc does make you retarded. It made me really retarded so I took a year long break. I can feel it making me retarded again, so I’m probably gonna take another one.
It’s hard to say where studies end and passion begins, because you can draw something you’re passionate about and use it to practice something you’re not good at. For example, I’m retarded when it comes to values, so I’m working on greyscale paintings to block out shapes and contours better. But for fun, I do abstract watercolors just to see how the colors interact. I also genuinely enjoy figure drawing so that’s both study and passion. However, I’m bad at clothes, so my next plan is to find a bunch of fashion magazines or blogs and study from those. I want to use the skills I get from studies to create a piece that features something I’m passionate about. Drawabox has a good plan, the 50/50 plan where for every amount of time you spend studying/practicing fundies, you spend an equal amount of time drawing without worrying about the outcome. Drawing just to draw. It’s very helpful even though it can be humbling and embarrassing at first if your skills aren’t where you want.
If you feel like you don’t have anything you’re interested in drawing just because you’re passionate about it, you probably need to work on finding hobbies outside of drawing and scrolling on a gossip site. I’m speaking from experience. I found some games I enjoyed and I’ve started reading books again, and I’ve felt inspired to draw taking elements from those things or wanting to catch up to the people who made them or draw scenes from them. It took me a long time to reclaim those hobbies, because again, I made myself retarded through scrolling. First scrolling through tumblr and twitter for years, then through here. I had to keep throwing myself at the hobby and get through the discomfort of not having constant social media stimuli and actually focusing on something. It takes work and confronting that you’re not as good as you want at something, as well as forcing yourself to be a little bored sometimes for payoff of developing a skill.

No. 2534559
>>2534489>>2534503These two are right. I did the same thing. Started practicing the fundaments that I wanted to get better at first (people, faces & perspective). By following tutorials and studying those references. Did that for a few months and you’re combing your own interests with learning so you make huge leaps in skill with what feels like little effort. I’ve kept doing that for around 6-ish months now and I went from barely drawing once a year and losing hope, to drawing 5+ pages in a sketchbook a day just because I like how it looks and I improve a little each day from each new study. I draw the things I like and mix in studies. Right now Im learning to draw sea life, water and underwater scenes because of all the mermaid stuff I’ve seen for mermay. Combing those with my ability to draw women from past studies means I can draw a fairly good mermaid now.
I’m better able to concentrate too because I’ve spent less time online except for tutorials, and more time using my brain instead of letting it rot online. I can concentrate again and even read.
Don’t get overwhelmed by the looming idea of what you really want to draw, just draw what you want in the moment and study it. Those skills will compound together over time. Creativity and learning to use your imagination again is a skill often neglected by too much doom scrolling. Unironically your parents wer right, too much time online does rot your brain kek.
I’m going to take another online break and focus on art and analog media (books, comics, art books, even magazines) because I can feel my brain getting lazy and retarded agAin. But I hope mine and the other nonnies advice helps anyone struggling to start. Your art will look ugly at first, but it’ll get better as long as you practice.

This is a tif right? I searched their profile for mentions of trans on Twitter but nothing came up. Or maybe furries just work differently and this is actually a gay guy. They have an artfight profile, toyhouse, all that common stuff for the online artist, and uses emotes like ;3 in their replies. Is the 5’10 height a lie? I know that women can still be that height even if uncommon. Here are their socials, help me figure it out nonas

Speaking of figuring out the genders of artists you’re not sure of, here’s a somewhat harder one. I’m kind of cloudy about this one. My instincts tell me it’s a male because the interests/rts on both accounts are pretty moid-centered, lots of coomy art and moid centered series like blue archive, even drew fanart for it. Plus his/their artstyle is pretty moidy. They have a side account where they post porn of their clearly lolibait character Hannah plus another loli character who isn’t drawn as often. Also has a newgrounds account which I’ve pretty much never seen women make.
But what throws me off is the they/them pronouns on the side account. Also they made a shota oc recently because “i need to make cute boy character”
https://x.com/kt_x_87/status/1899919517108646356Said boy oc, who just looks like a typical femboy
https://x.com/kt_x_87/status/1923542752853127276Other info: tweeted about having a problem with drinking and woke up to vomit, reaching a new level of “self hatred”.
Is this a weird pickme female, or just another porn addicted moid who happens to like both loli and some shota?

>>2535648Side note but it seems like the only actual cis men artists I see on social media who actually post pictures of themselves are gay SEA guys like Filipino dudes, and furries. The rest of the moids don’t post pics of themselves like whatever the hell this is

On the pedo angle, it's not rare for them to be both into male and female children/loli and shota so wanting to draw "a cute male character" (a shota) is not really that damning that it's a woman. Sometimes memories of the fact that a massive lolicon had a huge impact on my life really fucks with me. Like, Tsukushi Akihito is openly a borderline pedo (or is one if you consider lolishotacon to be basic proof of being one) NOW but back when I was really impressionable, I got ahold of his games (Elebits, Dewy's Adventure) and the unique usage of rainbows really stuck with me. And then he had a personal website in a language I couldn't read (predating Google translate) with search-and-finds? I used to tune out of computer class and just look at his stunning artworks to see if I could find all of the objects. I even learned to do some of the things he does with his art. Sure, it looks like run-of-the-mill moeslop to most, but by Elebits 2 I was hooked.
And now that we can translate his interviews, and read his funky shit he injects into Made in Abyss, I'm torn so hard. I should just cut off enjoying anything he makes, but I cherish the characters of MiA so much I feel like it's a duty to myself to see where he takes the story, even if it means exposing myself to his shit. In regards to the artist mentioned previously, I really feel sorry for people directly connected to artists like this, that uproot their lives for the coom. >>2537799>Btw, what made you think you're asexual?I said "borderline" because I know I'm not actually asexual, but I'm just on the far lower end of libido with little to no interest in sex or sexual content. It doesn't really bother me, it just means I can't really relate to sexual content the same way most people can. So I see the coomer art girls and think they're cute, but the sexual nature isn't part of it at all. A lot of things I happen to like aesthetically are linked with coom/being sexual (like bikinis, short skirts, and I usually like "loli" girls designs because kids are cute to me and remind me of the manga I'd read as a kid) so I can't really escape it. Sometimes I think there would be nothing to be ashamed of if men didn't exist to sexualize everything, but then again like I mentioned when I see other girls into the coomer art they're in for the coom too so I guess that's just wishful thinking.

>>2544384Speaking from a design perspective I think people like them because they're a bit ugly. A lot of similar trends (toys, animals, random thing) that make it big with normies are ugly-cute rather than just straight up cute. It's the same with those super popular "Sonny Angels" toys, the little naked baby with his dick out just wearing different hats. If he was wearing clothes he'd be less popular because him being naked and thus a bit ugly/gross is what gets the attention. These trends naturally die off quickly (compared to something actually cute like hello kitty who has been around since the 70s) because in the end they don't truly love the designs and are kinda in it for the "shock value" that comes from it being ugly. And then that "shock" wears of when you've gotten used to it, and since it's not actually that cute they don't like it anymore.
You can usually tell they don't truly love the design because whenever you see a big collection you notice the lack of other items - this is a replacement for their last consoom collection, and once they get tied of this one they'll jump on the next trend and replace this one too.

>nonnies i’ve been feeling depressed lately, thinking about what the point is in dedicating my life to working on creating and improving art if it’s all going to be forgotten forever eventually. That's why first and foremost you have to draw for yourself. Even people like the weirdass Astro Boy artist get forgotten, even after becoming quite successful. Renaissance artists are remembered through sheer force of their fans and education. I think to shed this mentality is to free yourself.
Hopefully I don't sound super haughty, but I always imagine that my enjoyment of art comes from being posed a challenge and overcoming said challenge. I can look back to 2016 on how I used to draw wings to now, and see how my studying and persistence of making shit pretty ended up working. The journey is appealing, not tbe destination, y'know? And the older we get, the faster time seems to pass. 2016 feels like maybe 4 years ago to me? But it's
nearly a decade. Just casually chipping away at something that's difficult pays off eventually.

Is anyone kind of hesitant to share their art for fear of being "tainted" by degenerates?
I've concocted a variety of young female OCs from elementary age to high school age, mostly out of nostalgia, and well I genuinely like cute things. Kamome Shirahama's art (picrel) is the kind of vibe I want to put with these female OCs.
But I'm really afraid if I were to "share" them to world lolifaggots might find them and ruin them. They're not above using real children as reference anyway. It just makes me remember this cancer patient girl who was a My Little Pony fan and Hasbro made her pony OC like an official thing and bronies just drew porn of it. Moe, bronies, magical girls… they ruin everything with their degenerate behavior.
I can't control what other people do with their time and nonnas will say just draw what you want, but it just sucks seeing something you've worked being potentially defiled for the coom.

>>2545401NTA, but I'm doing a year long study of nailing my 'hot men' style down. One thing that might help is to approach backgrounds as storytelling platform. Storytelling requires bringing in everything you know (anatomy, perspective, style, rhythm and flow, etc.) and pushing the limit just a bit to get the point across.
It is generally recommended you try to develop the background alongside the characters. Don't worry too much about it being distracting; it needs to be to a certain degree so that the viewer can step into the world and come across that character. This creates engagement and attachment to that character. It also keeps it from feeling too flat because you're working more spatially. As far as muddy goes, I'm assuming you mean color? Look into hue shifting, it goes a long way.
Look at a lot of erotic art pieces through history: many of them had nice backgrounds to the point of making it feel more decorative. There's also a sense of 'reward' when a viewer comes across a detailed picture and finds something sexy among it all. Emulate and study.

>even Japanese artists blah blahEven Chuvash people also measure proportions when they draw, how curious. This is not even a point because they're as good as art as everyone else in the world, they just have more time for art in school and have stronger art industries, that is literally the only difference. I also hate how criticizing them gets you called a little kid, sensitive, a puritan christian etc. Many of them admit that they draw porn cause it makes them money (like picrel) and I'm supposed to see it as the pinnacle of art and expression? Them also bragging about how good their art is and how in order to be a good artist you have to be a coomer and a pervert (their words not mine) is fucking hilarious considering how shitty their art actually usually is. I'm not really against erotic art inherently because art is often a way to express one's feelings and being horny is also like any other feeling. In fact that's exactly why I want these artists to be held up to higher standards. I wish people criticized porn artists as much as they do any other artist since it feels like they get away with way more than most people do, but porn artists tend to be sensitive little babies ironically and cry and send their army of wks at any criticism even if they're drawing racist sexist loli porn based on actual crimes or some shit.

Some artists are just weirdly puritanical towards efficiency tools too.

I remember an anon who complained about comission prices of this and several anons shot her down, which was a surprising shift compared what was posted in the earlier threads. I do wish this thread would be lot more tolerant of posting actual salt instead of being angry reddit mods nitpicking to death. Even though I found the brujo anons annoying they kind of were the anons who held the original spirit of this thread. Just salty anons talking about an artist they dislike.

To me she does seem pretty boring both in terms of output and personal presence but enough people seem to want to legitimately discuss what she makes as if they enjoy it under the guise of it being milk.

My life drawing class? Our teacher spent about <10 mins showing us Loomis (with most of those minutes dedicated to practicing it, and then <20 to show us two other techniques we could try. They were starting points to mix and match and evolve from. And I'm likely exaggerating the time; we still spent more of those seconds applying it so we could feel it and walking around looking at everyone's route, no critique. Half an hour in a 3 month-long class.
There was no arguing about whether or not you should do it like we see these crabs doing. No arguing about how you got to the destination. These no-draw/crabs probably spend years doing draw-a-box in between yelling about how people should do things so they themselves don't feel intimidated.

I came up with this for a thread image. Do you guys think it would be fun to have the same mechanics of art fight on an anonymous forum? As in, there are two different teams, each post nets points for your team etc. So anons would include their team name with their posts, and I could tally up the points at the end on a spreadsheet. Or is that doing too much, because we could just draw each others characters? I figured I would post about it here now and then post the actual thread at the start of July, so people have time to prepare OCs if they would like to participate.

I’m not at all an expert renderfag but what helped me get more of a comprehension of the process is gradually studying more and more complexly rendered pieces, like for example, movie adaptions of western cartoons are a pretty simple yet effective and dynamic portrayal of simple rendering/shading and light, and after you kinda get comfortable, moving onto stylized yet realistic rendering styles like those seen in anime pixiv art, VN cgs and some of the tutorials that are on xiaohongshu. Then, you might even be able to graduate to sakimichan tier rendermaxxing. Practicing with a lot of different tutorials until you find one that really clicks with you, and adapting it to different situations and areas may also help.
These posts from /m/ nonnas are also pretty good beginners practice!

>ColourRead about colour theory (Art of Colour by Johannes Itten is your best friend) and do a handful of colour studies traditionally- pencils and watercolours are good for this exercise. Do studies of paintings you like, something you could do is make one version with colour picking and then one trying to recreate it without, reading about how the painting was made could help. Photo studies are good too. Eventually wean yourself off colour picking and purely rely on your vision. Super autistic and optional but learn how light works and how that effects colour.

TMI and very stupid but I'm coming to the realisation that my art was at its best when I was going through an embarrassing mental health episode. Fundamentally it was quite bad, there are many painful anatomy mistakes, but I had better ideas and had more drive to sit at a computer drawing several hours a day to make those ideas into reality. So, the obvious conclusion to get from that is to bully myself into drawing more but man what a depressing realisation. I noticed whenever I post old art from that period people praise it more than my current work, and despite the fact I don't need tons of positive feedback it's still embarrassing that others seem to realise that too.

What fears do you have? What brings you joy? What type of scenery would truly bring you peace to exist in? What type of people do you love? What type of people can you not stand? Both theoretically and in real life?
I also suffer from poor mental health and it fuels my art, but I specifically use the changes my episodes have permanently had on me as themes. As in, what did I learn? What are things about my mental health that will always affect me, even during the good times? Where has my mental health put me in life, and where do I want to go from here? I view my work as an extension of myself, inseparable. We are two different people so what works for me might not work for you, but if your work is at it's best when it's emotionally driven, perhaps it's time to consult your other emotions.

For some of the questions it was regular degular mild OCD-esque psychosis and paranoia that went away by itself after a year, still not sure of the initial trigger, I was flipping a lot to feeling very fearful and agitated but then very at peace with the world because I was seeing a lot of connections where there plausibly wasn't any. Which would then spark new ideas that were interesting just because of the weird associations. Me and my "tweaker self" feel like completely different people and create very different things despite the fact "we" are always influencing "each other" in some way, so I can see use in what you've written

I made concepts that nowadays, i would not be able to create. I'm to this day milking the personality that i developed for myself while dealing with OCD episodes. I think that, with some effort, we can do it, we can get back to the artistic state we were before if we find another way of being inspired. Another passion, not the passion of the obsessive state, of the extreme hate or fear, but the passion of pure interest and love. I'm not sure if this makes sense for you. forgive me for being ~classist~, for the record i have never been rich but not insanely poor either. but i just can’t believe that most of the zoomer tiktok artists seem to only draw on their phone, and just use ibis paint. i have such a negative view on ibis paint, it’s the #1 poorfag art program. i tried it out and couldn’t believe you have to watch ads to use brushes. sure you have access to them for hours after watching it, but i still couldn’t stand it. there’s permanent ads displaying on the canvas interface too.
and the fact that they do all this on their phone? how do they even draw, don’t tell me they use their fingers? do they use normal screenless tablets to draw by connecting the usb to their phone? that would make more sense, but i’ve always shuddered at the idea of trying to draw on a phone, the screen is so insanely small.
it’s really sad that families these days don’t have a home computer anymore. i started my digital art journey by using the family computer like pic related, and my first tablet was a wacom bamboo which was probably only $40 to $70, can’t remember the price but it was definitely affordable. i understand that buying a computer that fits today’s standards is expensive, but why can’t these kids ask mommy and daddy for a laptop? even if it’s a cheaper laptop at least it would still be miles better than drawing on a phone. i feel frustrated on behalf of these kids posting their art on tiktok and i see the crowded ibis paint interface on their phone screen. they talk about how they’re too poor to afford anything more than this. basically there’s an 80% that a zoomer artist on tiktok uses ibis paint. i wonder if most of these artists live in 3rd world countries which would explain a lot. is buying a laptop there still expensive?
i just feel frustrated for phonefags, i can’t imagine that being my only source of internet

Back in 2014 I would draw on a tiny Sony Xperia and Medibang when I was out my house and came up with an idea.
But yeah, I get you. I see many children that are great artists (for their age, like picrel) using Ibis and it makes me want to spent $300 on a second hand laptop and tablet just to see them using their full potential. As
>>2553835 said, most of them are thirdies and while a cheap second hand laptop and a tablet costs are much as their current phone, it's just not worth for them.
