>>490833Honestly I think that the lack of variation in the designs they've been turning out is one of the biggest things that makes current Niji feel different than the old Niji I'm nostalgic for (both are good in their own right, though). Some might say it's just a liver's appearance and it doesn't matter much, but it does inform the basis of how a liver presents themselves beyond aesthetic, I think. These are extreme examples, but kuroshiba and Chaika as normal anime character designs would be completely different.
>I also can't help but worry that eventually there'll be TOO many livers and they won't be all able to get enough supportI'm actually always astounded that Niji gets up to all the 3D activities that it does. Hololive has issues with the studio almost always being booked out as is with the smaller talent pool and had to put restrictions on how many lives they're entitled to each year. I think Niji does a lot more regular 3D programming like the student council, gacha lever daipan, chronoir, and rofmao's shows (I'm aware not all of these are still active) on top of the various individual liver 3d debuts and performances… It's a logistical feat they pull off decently given what they're working with.
Also this reply is so late but I just want to say thanks for the actual discussion! It's kind of rare in this thread!

>>493660AYRT It's ironic you say this because I've also heard complaints and criticisms that Cover has way more 3D staff than it actually needs. But here we have actual talents saying something, so shows what fans know kek.
I will say though that on average a Cover 3D showing has higher quality than a Nijisanji one– a lot of the Nijisanji 3D showings I referenced are just them in what looks like a stock produced setting with minimal prop interaction, the really labor intensive stuff comes during big performances. Meanwhile Hololives scale down was saying that fully produced birthday and anniversary lives for every single talent is just logistically not that feasible.
Also keep note that it's mostly Astel talking here. Holostars has it's own issues that I don't really think are related to logistics– about a year back or so Holo started scaling down the resources they previously unconditionally funneled to the Stars. Not interested in saying who is at fault here because it's a confusing vortex of them not really bringing in results relative to the girls but the company also being frustrating at times.

>>493912I went down a rabbit hole of searching up things about this vtuber and a tranny tried to get with her (picrel). Apparently when she first started the troon was her only whale. He paid for a lot of her necessities and even bought diapers for her daughter. She made him a mod and he was planning on a trip to meet her. They went as far as flirting in dms. I've seen some /vt/ anons say that the tranny only wanted to get with her to groom her daughter, which whilst unsurprising I can't find any proof of. I don't know if there's any more info or updates out there. Ray has gotten a lot more popularity since then and Flayon from holostars has raided her in the past.
Apparently this is the tranny
https://x.com/Lexycon94Trying to convince her audience that everything about this is fucked up would be less productive than talking to a brick wall. Unsurprisingly there's a lot of pedos talking about her daughter on /vt/. I understand that as a single mother she has to earn money someway, that single mothers are still quite taboo in Japan and that earning money working at home as a vtuber allows her to spend more time with her daughter. It's not as though she can hide the fact that she has a daughter as a single mom, the daughter naturally makes noise in the background. I understand all of that. Still, even if it's not her daughter's real face this is approaching levels of child actor to me. Child actors are a bad thing for a reason. You never know if the people watching are pedos or not and I worry about stalkers. You'd have to be insanely naive to not believe there's actual pedos watching. She's essentially making her kid into a public person before the kid is old enough to consent to that.

>>493601>the lack of variation in the designs they've been turning out is one of the biggest things that makes current Niji feel different than the old NijiWell, it's something that's bound to happen when you want to prioritize appealing to a less niche, more general public and you do what's known to work. The designs play a big part in what they've been trying to do lately, and that is going further down the idol route for their popular existing units and newer debuts. All in all, this isn't a negative thing overall as this also means getting to do some really cool stuff, but there's definitely both pros and cons to this new approach. I've seen some fans express a bit of disappointment over a lot of content feeling a bit more pre-planned and 'influenced' by management nowadays, when in the past there was more of a casual vibe and livers just doing what they really want to do. Not to mention, increased idol reps usually mean decreased stream time too. All this is an issue with Holo as well, I remember seeing a clip of I think Pekora? saying that management would prefer her to 'focus' on the idol and off stream work instead of streaming. I try not to worry about these things too much when it comes to my oshis though, I can really only hope that management isn't pushing and overworking them.
>Hololive has issues with the studio almost always being booked out as is with the smaller talent pool and had to put restrictions on how many lives they're entitled to each year. This has always surprised me as well, with Holo's talent count I feel like it should be way easier to manage. But that's also why I feel like Niji will eventually hit a ceiling as well and have more talents than what they can manage. So I'm glad that they've slightly slowed down on the acceleration, and hopefully they can give their existing talents proper support instead. I already see people complain about ''favoritism'' because some livers get to appear in a weekly 3D show, while their oshi doesn't have the luxury.
>Also this reply is so late but I just want to say thanks for the actual discussion! It's kind of rare in this thread!Same here! Trying to talk about vtubers in english-speaking spaces can be exhausting at times as so much of the focus goes to the drama and the stupid corpo wars, people rarely want to discuss things from a more objective standpoint or just talk about their oshis with no drama of any kind involved.
>>493839>I will say though that on average a Cover 3D showing has higher quality than a Nijisanji oneThat's definitely true, although Niji does manage to pull through and do some genuinely cool 3D stuff as well, it's just that it's often locked behind the paid concerts. I thought Kuroi shiba's 3D debut was pretty impressive though.
The general 3D quality is still pretty decent, but also not too spectacular. It would be nice if Holo also gave their talents the option to do 'simpler' 3D performances instead of giving them no options at all aside from the high-production ones (which are limited).

>>495378Speaking of Ina's new outfit, Flare was streaming at the same time and interrupted the game to watch Ina's stream on a separate monitor, and I think it was at this point where I got real tired of her over-the-top fangirling. The "ore no Ina" thing was endearing at first but I can't really buy into it since they've never had a one-to-one collab or even meaningfully interacted with each other in any of the big events. Noel fangirls over Subaru too, but at least they've interacted with each other for years and some of the unhinged stuff Noel does like the creepy Minecraft shrine or the recent "Which Holomem Wuvs Subaru the Most" stream is kind of funny.
I always thought Flare had issues standing out when in her Gen she's flanked by Pekora and Marine, but I feel like it's gotten worse now that her character is boiled down to "IRyS's friend" or "Ina's fangirl".
Oh, yeah, Ina's outfit, I like it. I can't get enough of the classic school uniform look.

It's a weird gray area!
I've thought about this before, but for the other nonnies with female oshis, would you collab with them? Even if I was a Holo member too I don't think I would, or even say who my oshi is on stream lol. >>494167>All this is an issue with Holo as well, I remember seeing a clip of I think Pekora? saying that management would prefer her to 'focus' on the idol and off stream work instead of streaming. For sure, it's unfortunate though because while most of the newer hires come in with the obvious expectation that they'll be doing a lot of idol activities, it's not necessarily something that a lot of the old guard put first and foremost. I'd expect Pekora in particular to take umbrage with that insinuation because she's always been a very passionate streamer who views it as an actual craft. Marine's even said (not very seriously) that collabing with Pekora can be difficult because of how perfectionist she is about every detail.
I'm glad Niji actually doesn't seem to push the idol element as hard on talents that aren't into it. They don't seem to do a ton with SakuYui as a unit for example, relative to their popularity, and I suspect it's because those two joined to play games first and foremost. I have a hard time seeing Sasaki scaling down her streaming in favor of more idol activities haha.
Personally, I definitely compartmentalize what I go to the different orgs for, though, so while I like Holo upping the idol anti I'm always a little wistfully sad about Niji barreling down that route as well (I know it's profitable). I've always gone to Niji for the variety show atmosphere and while that commodity persists it feels more and more like a side dish to idol stuff sometimes.
>So I'm glad that they've slightly slowed down on the accelerationI was surprised when I first heard about how drastically they'd altered and downscaled their recruitment process! But I do agree, it's for the better. People make such a big hubbub about every little Niji graduation as a sign of a black company, and while I think it sort of makes sense for EN given the stories livers tell post-grad, I think it's unfair when it comes to JP companywise? I feel this way about Holo too, it's a job and people will leave, which makes space for new blood to breathe and shine. Nijisanji's exit-entry ratio was really skewed for a while, so while they're still jam-packed to the brim it makes sense to slow down new debuts.
Complaints about "favoritism" are funny… A branch NijiJP's size would have to grow multiplefold in profits and support staff to give every liver exactly equal promotion, I think. They do pretty well, everything considered.
>Trying to talk about vtubers in english-speaking spaces can be exhausting at times as so much of the focus goes to the drama and the stupid corpo wars, people rarely want to discuss things from a more objective standpoint or just talk about their oshis with no drama of any kind involved.I know, right? Disagreements are bound to occur but it's genuinely interesting neutrally discussing how the big companies compare and contrast. And it's not like the vtubers we love have enmity between them themselves, so why the squabbling…
>It would be nice if Holo also gave their talents the option to do 'simpler' 3D performances instead of giving them no options at all aside from the high-production onesI wonder if it's a brand standard issue for Holo that prevents them from doing that? As in, Holo doesn't want the appearance of lowering quality. Because it otherwise seems like an obvious solution to the impacted resources and scheduling.
I'll have to check out Kuroi Shiba's 3D debut! I haven't watched her maybe years…? I've been meaning to revisit her now that I have decent Japanese comprehension, I've heard she's pretty good for learners.
Not to make a long response even longer, but how're things with your oshis (I'm not sure if ChroNoir as a duo unit are both your kamioshis) lately? Any stuff you're looking forward to?

I'm too old to think idolization in that kind of situation is a good idea. (Not a statement on any of the Holo duos of a similar nature, before anybody makes a nitpicky generalization.)
>they had issues with fans not seeing them as individuals so they agreed to keep their relationship off-streamI didn't want to say anything since I'm not an avid watcher of either, but yes AFAIK Noel and Flare are still going strong with whatever their relationship is behind the scenes. I remember in a Subaru stream last year? Subaru was commenting that Flare is still wearing the couple ring she and Noel have had for years now.
