The character in the anime is a parallel to the protagonist. He has a room covered in anime posters and is running home to get on his computer. This scene is mirrored later in the short by alex's walk home to the same music. Most importantly though, the computer is where anime Alex gets his power to transform into a girl.
It cuts to a room in a state of neglect. Why is it like this? Alex is transfixed, following instructions on his computer to become an anime girl. And this is where if the story were about dysphoria or unobtainable beauty standards I think it would be different. Alex isn't bothered by his body hair, that's not a part of the scene at all, he's lost in another world. So lost, he doesn't even realize he's cut himself. He is literally hurting himself, and after realizing it he immediately retreats back into fantasy.
In the classroom you see him shirking his real life friends in favor of his internet trans ones, before "rushing home to transform". Only the dress doesn't fit, his fantasies are incompatible with reality. He realizes this and tosses it and is at the same time pulled back into the real world by his real friend.
But once he gets to the party you see how he came to be like this. He's anxious, these people are above him(literally, in the shot), he can't do it. So once more, he retreats into fantasy. This is clearly a bad thing. I don't even know what the pro-troon interpretation of this ending could be. A happy followup to this wouldn't be him getting an anime dress that fits, it would be him going to the party. This isn't a "journey of self-discovery", it isn't even "woe is me and my dysphoria", this is "anxious young man loses himself in escapism."
