how do i get into fashion? i'm not really a tomboy but i have always dressed very plainly (jeans and t-shirts) and i feel out of place in feminine dresses, skirts, or blouses. i have a dress i think i look very nice in, but i still feel awkward wearing it because i don't know how to dress the rest of me. i worry that my shoes, jacket, bag, etc. are obviously mismatched to anyone with more experience than myself.
also, is makeup necessary to look fashionable? i never learned how, as i don't like how it feels on my face, and don't like how much time it takes. the most i've gotten into so far as beautifying myself is "styling my hair" aka letting it airdry with leave-in conditioner and hoping it turns out nicely. maybe i'm too lazy for this stuff.
i'm 23 and just want to feel like the young woman i am rather than the old teenager i dress as, you know?

>>598426Follow people on instagram who have styles you like. Check their following list and recommended accounts for more people like them. Try to figure out what makes their outfit appealing, bc an outfit doesn't have to perfectly match to be cute. Statement items, color palletes, fabrics etc etc… Are some things that can make an outfit good. You can always dm someone to ask where they got something if they don't have it tagged.Of course pinterest is always a good source.
You don't have to dress feminine to make a dress look good. Put on a jacket and flat shoes, plus whatever other accessories you want. If you want to wear something formal, you don't have to wear a dress for that.
Makeup is not necessery for a cute outfit. Of course makeup can compliment an outfit and vice versa, but you don't need it. You also don't need to do a full face. Eyeliner, concealer on blemishes, blush and chapstick is fine.

I googled something like "cute insta girl", followed the ones I liked, followed similar ones insta suggested me and then I unironically looked through hundreds of accounts and saved every pic that looked good to me. Afterwards I went through the pics I saved and tried to narrow them down. What makes me likes this pic? Is it just the general aesthetic or is there a certain piece of clothing that especially appeals to me? Is this something I could realistically wear too irl? For what occasion? Would it suit my body/skin/hair type? For me immediately a pattern showed, all were pretty similar, meaning there was a certain style that I subconsciously liked.
Maybe keep some pics (also old pics of yourself?) as negative examples of how you would never want to look (again). I had to be really honest with myself, there were things that I always wore or wanted to wear and seeing them on other girls opened my eyes to how tragic, childish or outdated they actually look.
Right now I only follow ~20 fashion accounts and probably have around 100 pics as inspiration for what to buy, how to do my makeup/hair and also how to accessorize - something I never did before.
Sounds pathetic and unoriginal but I have zero fashion sense and was tired of looking like shit, I unironically still had stuff from elementary school (I was a gigantic kid). Looking through these girls' acccounts also showed me how fast trends change, that things I liked and thought of as trendy are actually already from 2014/2015 kek

Women are pushed away (and even punished) because they aren't welcomed between men.
Women get into something unique to them and start getting good at it.
More women join in and form communities away from the men communities.
Men are like "I can do that too!!!!" and join in.
Women are empathetic and welcome the men (when the same men pushed the women before).
Men overtake what women have.
Men start saying they're better than the women in their own communities.
Men make the community theirs and push and even punish away women if they try to get near it.

>>598817>>598825>>598846Answering this as a female programmer: back when personal computers were introduced they were considered nothing more than toys. Their capabilities were as good as playing on today's digital wrist watch, so they were basically used for really primitive games. Because back then toys were gendered and marketers had to decide if it was a toy for girls or boys and unisex wasn't an option, they chose to market it to boys. After the home computers began improving their processing powers, you could do your own programming on them and that's what the primary audience i.e. boys started doing. This is the only reason programming became such a male-dominated field. The same thing happened with video games. If Barbie was never invented and the only dolls were action mans or gi joes or something, playing with (human-like) dolls would be seen as a boys' hobby.
However there are many influential female programmers in our history who created a lot of concepts used to this day but they never get talked about because brogrammers would probably throw a fit if they knew they're using something a woman made, kek.

You can't deny you're a boy, because you were born as one, inside and outside. People who are trans are just trying to harm you, they think that a simple thing like liking pink is only for certain people and if you don't fit in that square box, you're wrong and should cut your flesh and inject chemicals, and I love you too much to see you passing through that. A lot of trans people are mentally ill and so sour that they try to make others the same. You can love dressing in a pink tutu if you want, that doesn't mean you are a bad kid or not a boy. I’m a programmer and at best I see some women web devs and data scientists (bc it’s new) and only any representation when it’s like an event specifically for women, and I don’t like those events.
I was welcomed into the vintage computing groups, meanwhile if I go to other dev groups I get gawked at, hit on, and questioned. Yet, the number of women in STEM rises.
The theory that men taking over programming as a calculated move is consistent with literally every other time it happened in male history. Again, I think lower representation is a symptom.

I think when it comes to women expressing their sexuality, it's usually only acceptable if men can get off to it, even if it's really just how the woman is. It happens with a lot of mainstream female rappers. Like, Megan does seem like a girl who is naturally very sexual. Then there are women like Nicki, who are very pick me-ish and seems like she does things just to appeal to men. You will never see rappers like NoName be mainstream, cause she doesn't appeal to men in that way. She still talks about sex, but not in a way that emphasizes the pleasure of men. Like Meg and Cardi talk about sucking dick and riding a lot in this song, but NoName says stuff like "I know he eat me like I'm wifey You know my hotel over price So he gon' fuck me like I'm Oprah". I feel like I can't ask my friends with kids this question, because it's rather personal and I don't reckon they'd be honest. So I'll ask anons.
Question specifically for female farmers with a male counterpart, and kid(s): is there really such a thing as "coparenting?" Like, do you really, rrrreeeeeallly honestly feel like you and your man share duties equally?
Or is it as I think it is: Woman does the huge majority of the cooking, cleaning, spending like 90% of the time with the kid(s), while Mr. Man gets to relax – and when he feels overwhelmed he can take as much time away from the kid(s) as he wants, while Mom doesn't ever EVER have that luxury?
If anyone wants to answer, please be honest. I simply can't realistically see any man, even a good one (like my own husband) NOT leaving 90% of all child-rearing to the woman. And it makes me sad and is a big reason why I would never want to have a kid.
Thanks!
No. 600639
>>600625Yes, it does happen. Most fathers are in the category of “ill do it if you ask but am too inept to figure it out myself”. I think most men are this way, fathers or not.
I definitely do 90% of the homemaker stuff but also I don’t work and stay at home with the two kids which I love. My husband helps when I ask and generally will hold the youngest (3 months) while I take care of the oldest (almost 3). You just kind of get used to the man not doing anything on his own accord though he will generally now do things on his own, usually dishes.
I actually figure he is like this due to his mom. I noticed she never asks her other sons to do anything, only his sister does. So I don’t think it’s necessarily a male thing but a mother thing. They really do treat their sons differently.
What’s more important is a hard working man who does house repairs and remodeling more so then stuff like childcare and home stuff. Or else you’ll end up doing that shit too.

How (un)ethical is playboy? I'm personally against the physical abuse against women which is presented in pornography (BDSM, rape), the fact that many men out there are addicted to porn, the profiting off of child abuse, and the inhumane their workers are put under etc, but I do believe that pornography isn't inherently unethical.
It seems like playboy has some ethical qualities like launching playgirl, which created an avenue for women to express their sexuality -even though it mainly had a gay male readership, and ,from what I can tell, most of the photoshoots are just naked women posing, which I find to be significantly more ethical than the violent shit you can find on pornhub. I don't think that playboy gave many men porn addictions, since men often had to jack off to a single magazine for a month, which is less damaging than the amount men have today at the click of a button. That, and the fact that I don't think playboy has supported cp in any way suggests that playboy is fairly ethical, at least compared to it's contemporaries, so I'm confused- are anons here more knowledgeable on the matter?

Two friends of mine are now not on good terms anymore. one of them, A, has told me stories about how the other friend B is a whore and how A doesn't believe she was raped recently because she lied about being raped in middle/high school when she cheated on a boyfriend. And that she doesn't believe she was raped because when someone told her to call the police she didn't want to. A also told me about B being sexually abused by someone in her family back in the day and said how she didn't believe it because B is a "hoe" and "if someone was being abused like that why would they go around throwing themselves at anyone like she does?"
I don't understand what we get out of questioning the truthfulness of all this? It to me seems like my friend is just writing her off as a whore and doesn't believe her because she's a "whore" and when I say that she keeps saying no that's not it at all it's because she's a liar. But she keeps talking about what a whore she is instead. The falling out was after they drunkenly had a threeway (A, A's bf & B) & B's boyfriend gave an ultimatum of her or him because he wasn't okay with that. There's more problems in the situation because A's boyfriend had gone back and recorded that night (they have cameras in their house, including rooms) and took nudes of B that A had on her phone without A knowing so yikes.
The whole situation creeps me out.

>>603410Sounds a lot like a girl in my class last year, only she wasn't as good at hiding the attitude problems.
And the thing is, other people will eventually realize that she's a bitch. Some earlier than other, but it's just a matter of time before people notice the attitude issues and get annoyed by her. I had to do a group assignment with a group including that girl, and for a while I thought nobody else was that bothered by her because I was the only one who would publicly call her out on her shit. She'd have meltdowns and basically temper tantrums over anything people added to the project, but nobody else said a word about it.
Until one day we had a group meeting without her and all hell broke loose. Turns out everyone disliked her just as much as me. Most people are just really conflict avoidant with these things so they don't want to say anything until one person takes the initiative to call her out. What I'm trying to say is, chances are that the others in your group have similar thoughts about her. Maybe poke around a bit and you might find that they'll back you up in telling her to quit her bullshit. That way there's no need to silently ignore her and test your patience all the time.

You know, those 'traditional lifestyle' videos of young girls with model-tier looks cooking or weaving baskets in a picturesque farm in the countryside. Any anons here culturally isolated themselves from their birth countries by consuming too much anglophone media, but had gotten out and had gotten more culturally connected? This is a pretty first world problem, but I know this is a common occurrence, especially with finnish/baltic country people - I've met some (mainly NEETS) who learned English through the internet just by exposure, use it on a daily basis, and now can't quite relate to others. I grew up speaking English at home but speaking the language of the country I'm in when I'm out in public, which isn't as often. Basically anon, if they're not:
1. Religious loonies having kids out of duty and the belief that there's paradise after a lifetime of suffering, and
2. Disgusting progeny freaks who feel they need to pass along their genes at all costs, or
3. Deadbeats having kids hoping that they'll be their caretakers in older age,
then any justification towards any issues boils down to parents thinking bad things will never touch their kids. It's ego. Even if compounding evidence suggests otherwise, they have to go on believing they didn't screw their kids. Which is why I think older generations are such big fans of shifting blame onto younger generations, because it would wound their egos too much to admit that they didn't give their children the best and now they have to deal with the consequences whether they like it or not.
Personally I think as long as parents provide the best and sacrifice for their children who didn't ask to be born, then that's all anyone can ask for. But too many parents have selfish motivations and really don't get what it takes.

It's already a miracle that we have progressed to the point that there's some (mostly) white woman making the deliberate choice not to have kids until they're in a financially stable situation.

>>605494Neither. I think that's kind of the point, why do you need to add that it's "all" of the people you're addressing? Just "you" is completely enough most of the time. People who use "y'all" usually do it in a preachy way, like calling out or educating everybody in a generalizing "good me" vs. "bad the rest/the others" way.
That's my take as an ESLfag, I learned that "you" can be used for a single person as well as for a crowd.

Lets be honest honestly using standard english is more professional than your comfy southern dialect, especially to people outside of the South
And in context of lolcow, it's called learning to read the room, 'y'all' and 'folks' aren't accepted here, so you'll stand out and not fit in.

Idk how it is for people who speak more than two languages, but I imagine It's mostly the same. If they're not integrated they will just think in their mother tongue or maybe think in a mix of their mother tongue and whichever other language they're most comfortable with.

Is there such a thing as not being jealous enough? My bf is moderately jealous but not so much that it's a problem. I'm sure I'd be kinda jealous if he did an assignment or project with a cute girl from his course or something (just a made up scenario), or if he bumped into that one actress he once told me is "objectively beautiful", but I don't worry about it too much. He never does anything that could make me jealous anyway.
He has female friends who he's known since he was 13, some of them are definitely much more conventionally attractive than me, but I fail to be jealous or worried. I even sympathise with his ex, I never judge her or feel jealous that they used to date.
Does this just mean that I trust him? Or does this mean I'm not into him enough? My bf once voiced his worries that I'm "not jealous enough". I don't know if he thinks about this anymore, but I'm still interested in hearing other people's opinions on it.

If he's anxious, tired or distracted that typically makes it more difficult, but just know that guys are equally mystified and sometimes annoyed by their lack of control over boners (both getting them when they don't want them and not getting them when they do) so never feel affronted by a guy's level of preparedness.
