Discuss the happenings, drama, cringe, etc. of Neocities, personal sites, webrings, and other small communities, and how they used to be in the past.

Other possible topics of discussion:
>personal sites vs social media profiles
>creating shrines and fanlistings
>joining webrings and cliques
>how socializing on the internet has changed

just hide the picture if you yourself don't like it so much. this is the "old web" thread, you should know by now you're going to encounter things online you don't like. trannys are everywhere, including neocities and they're louder about it than that picture will ever be. it's literally a point of discussion in every thread. are you new? it's a comic of a cute cat, you don't have to read it or even look at it, no ones making you think about anything. it's not like the threads you mentioned are meant to be containment threads: men are not welcome here

The only site I know of that got removed for being offensive was a site that just spammed the n word over and over. So don't do anything troll like that and you'll be fine. It's possible that you may eventually get shadowbanned if enough people block you, but that's pretty unlikely. Most neocities users are teens that can't read anyway. If you're shadowbanned, you can still post but your site won't show up in the global activity feed and you can't comment on strangers' profiles

The SeaMonkey web browser has a built-in website editor similar to MS Word, but it doesn't have any CSS styling features built into it. So it's great if you want to go for an authentic 90s website look, but it's kind of horrible for everything else.
Alternatively, there's phcode.io (successor to brackets.io) which is basically an open source version of Adobe Dreamweaver. It won't let you drag and drop images onto your webpage, but it should hopefully making coding websites less painful.

>Unrelated, but has anyone else had issues with neocities' global activity feed? For some reason, my site will sometimes not show up when I update it, or it will appear hours later. I'm not shadowbanned or anything, so I don't know what the issue is.
Global feed will only show your website if more than 24 hours have passed since the last update, and I noticed that isn't synced with the profile feed that follows a similar rule. Maybe it's actually more than 24 hours for the global feed, but I'm not 100% sure.
Speaking of shadowbans, I noticed I'm partially shadowbanned, I can't comment of profiles of people that don't follow me, but global feed shows my updates. The last time I checked I was blocked by around 30 something sites.

I know about the 24 hr wait. There will be several days or even weeks between updates and my site won't show up in the global feed until a few hours later. It's weird because it'll eventually pop up where it should be chronologically in the feed, it just won't be there initially. It's not that big of a deal, just kind of weird

No. 2428954

>>2428307
I've been on neocities for a while coupled with that.

>>2428340
I'm not sure if there's an easier way of checking but for example I would open page 400 of the most followed sites while logged into my account and then I'd open the same page on a private browser tab where I'm not logged in. Then I would take a look at what the first site is on the page where I'm logged in, and I'd try to find that site on the page where I'm not logged in. For example if that page is now on spot 10 that means 9 pages blocked you because when someone blocks you their page is not visible in the browse feature of neocities. That way you can figure out the number of sites that blocked you, but not exactly which ones. To figure out which sites exactly you'd have to do a lot of cross referencing.
I did this about six months ago so I don't know if Kyle changed anything with how algorithms work since then.

>>2428575
I haven't been keeping track of Kyles changes but what I can tell you is that before he changed how global activity works, the feed always had some randomness to it. If you refreshed it you would get a different pick of sites that updated recently from the pool of recently updated sites. After the update I thought he swapped to pure chronological listing of updated pages that satisfy certain requirements like view count, followers and site age but maybe there's still some randomness in how the pages and status updates get displayed.

No. 2429014

>>2428954

Just do it, you don't have to join a webring in order to socialize with other webmasters, just read their pages and reach out directly via email.
You can also try reaching out through fan listings or cliques if they have the members list displayed. If you really wish to have a social media aspect to your a personal webpage, you can interact with webmasters via the activity tab (though I generally avoid it because I go on neocities to avoid social media type interactions)

I dont see the issue of joining a webring that have gendies/tards in it unless the webrings is retarded/gendie oriented in the first place or is ran by a tard. It's not like a discord server where you're on a first-name basis with other members, you just happen to be in a "digital club" with members that all like the same thing.

i feel like a lot of smallweb sites these days are really same-y, and don't try to explore the creative possibilities of html, css, and javascript. even the ones with cool art and backgrounds or whatever are all basically the same box layouts, with the same generic blog/about/shrine contents. it's a shame, because it essentially turns your website into a glorfied socmed page. i think the whole point of having a website over a twitter or whatever else is the ability to break out of those predefined boxes.

it's how i'd like to imagine what some people might've felt when everyone was idolizing the 80's in the early 2000s. you had to be there or you missed the point. these people would have been laughed off the internet in ~2005. they can't recognize that because they're pretending to be nostalgic for something they clearly weren't around for. there are a handful outliers to this clear pattern, but that's a whole different discussion imo

>Would you prefer it to be farmer-only or a general non-gendie women webring
How would you even make it farmer-only? I'm a farmer but nothing on my site really suggests it, aside from me being in WOTI. I follow several sites that I suspect are run by farmers, but unless they explicitly mention lolcor like Vivarism, it's just that, a suspicion. There's no way to really confirm it. As for non-gendie women, that would be nice but I still feel like it runs the risk of being infiltrated by troons. If that happens, how would you deal with it? Would you remove them? What happens if they have a histrionic fit and start targeting other members in the webring? I'm not even sure it's possible to have a non-gendie women webring without its members being targeted, harassed, and mass-blocked so that they become shadowbanned. Neocities is infested by mob-mentality genderspecial teens. I don't have any GC related content on my site but just because I'm in WOTI, I've already been blocked by several sites I've never interacted with.
>Would you like references to LC (pastures/farm themed) or would you prefer the theme to be completely irrelevant to the site
An irrelevant theme would be safer. Some webmasters have already been harassed just because they're in WOTI. Having farm-related dogwhistles would just make it more obvious that it's LC related
>Would you prefer applications to be registration only or would you be comfortable with screening questions (in the case the webring is for farmers only)
I feel like invite-only might be best, similar to that flowering clique. Although at that point, I guess it would be more like a clique than a webring

>How would you even make it farmer-only?
In this case the webring would be invite/referral only. I will ask some screening questions similar to the ones in the FC2 LC group for verification.
>the risk of being infiltrated by troons.
The webring will be an innocuous theme whether it be farm themed or not and will be very vague. It wont be outright labelled as a "women's only" webring and it will be a certain aesthetic that likely wouldnt attract a TIM and at most would pique a TIF collecting widgets for aesthetics.
>how would you deal with it?
The webring would have an upfront rule that will deny or remove a website at the admin's discretion. If a reason for removal is requested, the notice will be as vague as possible. If drastic measures are required, the members list will be privated and the widget will be changed to be innocuous to protect members from harassment.
>I'm not even sure it's possible to have a non-gendie women webring
A webring with the sole purpose to showcase women webmasters only? Absolutely it will be hard in this day and age, however an innocuous aesthetic webring would likely fly over the radar; I have no intentions of making this a political oriented webring nor require GC content as a prerequisite to join. As long as you are a natal women who identifies as such and does not have TRA beliefs or graphics you are qualified for the webring.
>Having farm-related dogwhistles would just make it more obvious that it's LC related
Agreed, especially after the artfight incident.
I thought it would be best to ask anyways just in case (though any ideas would be immediately null by virtue of being brought up publicly here in the first place kek)
>I feel like invite-only might be best. Although at that point, I guess it would be more like a clique than a webring
What differentiates this webring from a standard clique is the javascript function that allows you to access other sites in the webring via the widget. The goal of this webring is to showcase women hobbyists that focus on their site content and hobbies rather than gender nonsense.

>>2462884
My main concern with WOTI isnt the harassment (my comments and neocities profile is off so troons have no avenue to harass me anyways. the tards that do the effort of finding my guestbook to leave a snarky reply is more laughable than threatening) but rather trying to find other women webmasters only to get jumpscared by a trans rights button or they/them in the about page.
No shame to WOTI and the admin, she has already went above and beyond initiating the project in the first place, it would just be nice to have some variety in women spaces, especially some with more niche/condensed beliefs.

No. 2464103

How do we "audience curate" in the first place? If you mean doing it through LC that would be a horrible idea as gendies/TRAs lurk this thread frequently and have shown to do so in multiple instances.
There are sites like >>>/ot/2395291 that simply showcase cool websites (NOT like the federiefederi follow for follow scheme) though a majority of webmasters would not be pleased to be on an outwardly "Radfem/GC website" list since that's setting them up for easy harassment. It also wouldn't function as a webring since the webmasters would have to implement the script on their site in order to connect their site to the webring member list.
Even if the webmaster can deny affiliation, zoomies are retarded and place baseless claims on anyone just for an opportunity to harass them all the time.

As >>2465833 said though, you can only have 1 site per account unless you pay for supporter, so you have to create a new account for it. I don't think this is against the rules or that is monitored as I had 2 accounts like this for years with no issues.

I've seen sites that blatantly rip off the CSS of other sites, usually only changing the text. Anon should go back to the guestbook she commented in and look up if it has that feature, it should be listen on the main domain. Have you been leaving comments on sketchy sites? Nekoweb is a childish looking host that bans people for being transphobic, any adult with a normal brain would look at that and lose interest. Just a few days ago there was some minor drama over people discovering a site with a troon soayjak and everyone clutching their pearls over it and begging for it to be banned. It's great for what it is, containment for children and fake edgy gendies.

And no, laughing at hatsu isn't peak comedy, she can't help but make herself known after each and every blunder. She's obsessed with site copying to the point of hilarity, especially at her big age, yet somehow each time drama around her appears she deletes her site right away instead of standing her ground and being such a based hater. Not to mention her hanging out with children all the time. It's just off-putting and pathetic

Sites have not been taken down on nekoweb for being transphobic, nor have they been taken down for simply having a slur in them.

Also, I don’t think think being transphobic is illegal in Germany

The only thing I agree with is that nekoweb is a hugbox, but you know the best way to fix it? By actively using the website & evening the user demographic, by recommending it to your friends, by caring about the website despite all its troony users. Spreading misinformation on it will not help because anyone who actually decides to give a damn about the website will quickly realize how retarded you are.

>>2482083
The worst that would happen is the discord getting pissy and complaining, but I know the lurkers here would just loooove the attention, so it really doesn’t matter.

No. 2482205

Nekoweb looks cute and has a nice domain, but I don't know why anyone would put their site there unless they only plan to use it as a test or for a short amount of time.
There are more reliable free wen hosters out there, Nekoweb feels like it will implode after 3 Discord fights or when the mods get overwhelmed by the fact that running it cost time and money, it should've stayed as a clique/small hosting for their group of friends. I'm surprised it managed to get this far in all honestly.

Of course this is all conjecture, but as an outsider it just looks like everything but profesional. I'm glad it serves as a gendie/child zone ala Club Penguin for Y2K tiktokers so other hostings are more free of them though.

That anon is so confusing, just let the underage troons be in their own containment it's better for everyone. I know dimden himself is way chiller than most of his userbase but it's his own fault for creating nekoweb with a bunch of sensitive tifs and enbies. Nekoweb was set up to be pigeonholed with such a team behind it and that's that. If you want normal people to use your site host you need to be normie friendly which nekoweb is not. Nonas, Geocities 2.0 is happening….
They're deleting Fc2 websites because their servers are too old and costy. In July they will launch Fc2 Homepage, and considering they made a migration guide and the aforementioned costs, I wouldn't be surprised if they delete the sites on the old one after a bit. I hope I'm wrong though, I don't want to say goodbye to 20 years worth of fanworks and art.
Internet archive barely has saved anything on top, and uploading pages there takes forever…

It will be:

https://web.fc2.com/ -> Saved

I was finally able to get it working enough, I was using chat gpt to talk me through it. I used SimpleBar but had to download the css and js because the link only wasn't working. I've given up on getting the track (background image) working, I only got it running on a test file briedfly and never again. But the thumb (the rectangle you move) was there it was just weirdly thin, tried to work around it, set left to negative, even just chang z axis to bring it in front but it wasn't budgingnand ai was sending me in circles so I think
>maybe it's in the js and simplebar css file that's constraint it?
So I couldn't upload any thing and has to copy and paste sections and it said it might be the css but just sent me in circles again, so I used the inspect key because I did that to find out the online links were messed up and I find that I CAN MOVE THINGS WITH THE MOUSE?? WHAY TECHNO-WIZARDY IS THIS?
So I found the screen bar WAS constrained to 11 pixels wide when my image was 25 pixels (and I had already tried to set it to that with code in both the html and my css file) but I was able to modify it in the desktop and copy it back to the simplebar.min.css file because the code was a garbled mess on a single line and I wanst able to find it or override elsewhere.
So that's a win at least
But I still
>back piece still missing
>didnt adjust the height for the scroll thumb image so it stops short because it's still reading a 100px tall image not the 30px image
