Since there's no comunication it's nicer to the artist as well since they don't have to message back and fort, do corrections and the like.
I have seen artists on Vgen who offer Skeb-like commissions, but they aren't the majority. I was pretty dissapointed in Vgen when it launched and it wasn't like Skeb at all like they marketed it originally, people expect comunication on it and that's not forbiden, it's just a digital marketplace.

I don't know if doujin in this case means original or fanart, but if its the latter then it's considered uncouth in Japan to make money of it regardless. And if it's original you're fighting against all the other artists who are trying to make their story known for cheaper or even free online.
>>2270311>>2270336Plenty of artists are already offering skeb services through Vgen. It's nice in fact because as an artist you aren't forced to either have 0 communication or a free for all. While I like the idea of skeb, it's nice to be able to just ask things to clarify. Based on what friends say, you don't get clients that will ask for a hundred revisions unless you're very cheap anyway. Skeb has its own downsides, I've seen it happen plenty of times where the artist despite good references (since you can see the prompt yourself) makes major mistakes.

Forget shading and just practice your lines, colors and fundies. If your art looks nice with just base colors, then you reached your goal, from there you can either leave it alone, add simple shadows (your picrel) or rendermaxx, either of the 3 will look good.

Anons I'm so sick of troonshit. I've recently joined a discord for one of my niche fandom interests that's helped me gain some attention on my art once I finally started posting publicly, and it was all well while the discord hosted 20ish people. The bigger it got more gendies started joining and shitting up conversations by turning every topic about themselves and their valid troon ocs. They've also started sperging about proship and antiship faggotry, and although they're on the "pro" side (which I guess I would lean towards if I was autistic enough to care about meaningless internet drama) I'm afraid that kinda crap will be a stain on my reputation and future growth as an artist, and I've literally just now started.
I don't know if I should leave the server. In my perfect outline of what I want for my art account I'd stay far away from either of those topics, but now as an active member I feel like I've been implicated in their bullshit just by being around them, despite not ever commenting on anything they say and disengaging once they start to talk about those things. I don't know if I'm being paranoid or just responsibly forward thinking. I just don't want to get cancelled this early on in my endeavors, I need commission money.

>>2273632Yeah nona, please mute the server and slowly fade out. Don't do what I did anon. I personally can't escape interacting with gendies - TIFs specifically make up like half of my audience and I need the numbers for my side income. Even if they aren't pornsick TIMs, TIFs are still either incredibly insufferable or just sad to look at. I hate having an audience of gendies and handmaidens. I regret it so much. You have to put up with nonsense neopronouns, whining about transphobia, etc etc. I feel like I am also at risk of them sniffing out my terfiness because I refuse to draw any troon characters of any sort, or because I never specify my characters' pronouns. Hopefully they don't catch on.
On the plus side, to any nona who does in fact have an audience of gendies and handmaidens, at least it's quite easy to pander to them if you're willing to draw
poc, fatties, or disabled people. I'll take those over coomshit
or gendieshit. Picrel to illustrate.

>>2274019>While we're on this topic, have any nonas actually been cancelled for not being woke enough? It wasn't anything with troons and I didn't exactly get cancelled, but I have a story for my OCs and there are many characters in it separated into groups. The main group that I draw the most is the protag's group, and they're all fair skinned (only one was actually white, the rest of the cast is latino). I've had people come to me claiming I was being "
sus" that my story didn't have
POC characters (it does, I just don't draw them so often) and that I should change at least one of the protagonists into being black or brown because "having them all be white sends a bad message". Again, those were my OCs. My characters.
Needless to say I blocked the person.

I had an idea of who the culprit was since one of the discord polycule kittens had a habit of subtweeting eerily similar topics after questions popped up. They're just as predictable as the cartoon villains they obsess over. Of course they are all sunshine and rainbows in the actual server. I don't care if I don't get noticed. Too much woke too too many weird people. But I could be missing something. NTA and I dont have trouble telling female artists apart from troons but what confuses me is telling gay men apart from straight women. Not talking about the obvious barafags. For example, i cant tell if af_cf is a woman or a man.
Reasons i think it might be a man:
>mostly draws roided guys
>horse racing autism
>the simple shading and focus on mostly rough sketches is something i mostly see with male artists
Reasons i think it might be a woman

>only draws guys

No. 2275560
>>2274911This is extremely moid gazey. The only people who would draw something like this are 99% males and 1% girls with abysmal self-esteem who have spent all their online lives around lolicons and have been groomed into drawing like this to pander to their moid "friends". I used to think this troon was one of these for some reason, maybe I just clung to the possibility of him being just a weird pickme NLOG, but exceptions like these are so rare you might as well always assume these artists are male.
Males are obsessed with inoffensive moe/"funny"/"silly" anime girls and have a distinctive art style. Look at the way male anime artists draw girls vs. the way female artists that draw FOR girls draw them. Non-Japanese males draw girls with the same fashion sense as the Japanese ones because of their anime influences. They have a schoolgirl fetish so they draw the girls with realistic uniforms and hair styles, but reduce them to clean and cute caricatures. Women usually draw girls in a more human and authentic way, like this
>>2274931Another glaring red flag is that moids will only draw girls. In your pic there are only two of them, both generically moe, and no males (waifufag/yurifag thing). It's nearly impossible to find a lesbian that draws anime girls like this.
They also fetishize Japan a lot through the lens of moe anime. That's why your pic depicts two anime girls in typical CGDCT fashion over a photo of a Japanese street.
>>2274946>When i posted her in another thread her guys got called roided,NTA but don't listen to those retards, roided is another body type, a grotesquely muscular one that looks like a mutant. They don't know what it means so they call any toned guy "roidpig". Also this artist is clearly female, and I don't even know her or her husbando. Women tend to draw men more gracefully and androgynous (normal with a touch of pretty), while male artists exaggerate masculine features in the same way they exaggerate feminine features in women.
>>2274803>breasts aren't inherently sexual!!!!!!No matter how many times you tell yourself this, if it's a straight male making her boobs massive, it's because it gives him a boner, fucking retard. Then again, it's near impossible for a male to draw fanart of a female character who was raped in a serious and nuanced manner, because moids can't empathize, and it's more likely that they'll get off to her suffering in some way (either by literally getting off to the rape or by fetishizing her vulnerability).

The story goes she started working for a computer parts store and got roped into helping with PC-98 era porn games because she drew a pretty nice store advert. The story is filled with her being slowly coerced into drawing more and more pornographic things and she eventually ends up an extremely popular artist but winds up with a lot of male stalkers she just kinda has to deal with. If she feels the character was literally just her, I wonder how many women in the industry got roped in like that.

Even with many people moving from Twitter, Bluesky still doesn't have that many people so giveaway posts end up with very few applications, making it a lot more likely that you'll win something. She says that in one hand, it can be a lot easier for you to gain a following and numbers. Trendy art memes and "aesthetic" something-core speedpaints can get a lot of views really quick and if you're trend-savvy you can use that in your favor to maximize engagement and stats. On the other hand did say say that you need to have some divine patience because it's CRAWLING with kids and people with the IQ of a spoon, and the same way it's easy to get numbers in there it's also just as easy for your posts to get dogged on if they decide something in it is "pwoblematic'. She also dislikes the fact that most of the comments she gets are whatever meme internet slang has been going around lately. She doesn't expect full art feedback but seeing four "mama x behind you" consecutive comments on a single post again and again sure does something to your faith in humanity.
All in all she says it's fine but really not the best place for artists. If you're a more meme type of artist or you do animatics or basically anything that has to do with short punchy videos then maybe, but outside of that it's kind of meh and can bring you more unrest than good.

No. 2281590
>>2281250At first I was a fucking retard, don't get me wrong, use this first part as a guide for what NOT to do. My own loneliness took precedent over anything else at first, I grew extremely fast and was starstruck by all the people who suddenly wanted to talk to me after a long while of isolation (I fall on a sweet spot between level 1 and level 2 autism, so social contact is difficult for me), so when people began asking me for a discord, I said yes and was more willing to divulge personal details.
I thought because I had good intentions and wanted to be fair to everyone, drama wouldn't find me and I would surely be respected in the community, but as it turns out, it's not only your own behavior you have to watch out for. All it took was for me to assert a boundary towards a bpd-chan, have her take it as a rejection, split on me, and run an entire smear campaign for all this drama I'm dealing with now to get started. I really thought that if she managed to turn so many people against me that I was the problem, but rolling over and just taking it only fuels the fire, you can't bend to anyone's will when they talk shit about you or they'll take it as proof everything is true, regardless of the fact that most bad people won't actually admit to wrongdoing. This is why gaslighting and reactive abuse is a powerful tactic, especially in spaces like these where a lot of consumers are teenagers or people in their very early twenties who don't have the life experience to recognize these tactics yet and just go with the crowd.
TL;DR, to avoid shit like this completely, you need to make sure you're not letting in assholes who take things in bad faith into your spaces to minimize your chances. All it takes is one manipulative person who gets angry at you to spread a narrative and get it snowballing. I avoid people with BPD entirely now.
If anything does happen, do not acknowledge it publicly. It may be tempting, I've struggled a lot not to post a story like "these people who are spreading and believing horrible lies about me with zero evidence are going to hell", but this only calls attention to it and will make people curious. Even though it hurts and feels like a world ending event to you, most times it will only be a small group out of all your followers who are spreading the rumor, but calling attention to it only makes people want to look into it, people who could be swayed, people who could be disgusted and want to look more into you and bring you to "justice".
But again, I wouldn't worry. Even though I have a large platform, these people who believe I supposedly assaulted a minor are only sticking to discord gossip. Rumors and drama with no merit won't go anywhere except amongst mentally ill people that most will brush off.
Nowadays, I do still respond to my followers, but my discord is deleted and I don't respond to DMs. I like their comments and thank them when they say they like my work or if they have something else to say, like a question about my OCs or a comment about some property I drew fanart for, I don't worry about it and respond to that too. Don't feel compelled to overexplain yourself, though saying you're working full time is pretty innocent. Really, if you're just dropping art and going, I don't think you need to worry. My issue is that I was a lot more personal with my followers, I was incredibly lonely and my mental health was poor, so I used my art like a diary and when I blew up I think some people just got weirdly parasocial with me, and the more mentally unstable ones probably felt personally betrayed. It's always odd to me when I hear about people I've never personally spoke with talking about me like I did them wrong. If you don't do any of that, I really think you'll be fine. Again, despite all of this, I haven't gotten a callout or a doxxing or anything, most people I've seen get doxxed have proof of them actually doing the thing they were accused of, but if you're planning on being pretty private and keeping to yourself, it may just be the anxiety talking. It's easy to convince yourself that it's a real danger if you read a lot of threads on here or on kiwifarms or watch drama videos on youtube but these are just a small handful of artists amongst the thousands who exist online and piss people off and get into drama. I promise you'll be okay.
Sorry for the TL;DR blog but actually living through this has been a real eye opener and I hope a more detailed account can help.

Sad-ist, a popular animator and YouTuber with 3 million subscribers, residing in both the Dream SMP and Stanley parables fandoms, is being accused of grooming. In a night, her entire discord staff turned against her for sending her NSFW animations to minors aged 16-17. All alleged.
She was extremely popular and influential in the DSMP fandom, with tens of millions of views on all of her animations, the YouTubers involved being close friends with her and reacting to her videos. I suspect there’s lingering jealousy due to her basically being the irl embodiment of a fanfic self insert who’s art is loved by all her fav YouTubers. Mr beast uses her art for banners for crying out loud. Ethan Becker, another cow, made a video on copying her style.

The art style is so bara (even did character designs for some bara game, I think) but they also draws het porn where the guy is the main focus, with the woman sometimes domming him (granted, both women and dickgirls but still).
Just scroll through their gallery and guess if it's either a gay scrote with small bi leanings or a straight fujo poisoned by bara manga.

Also her poses aren't overly sexual, she just seems like she draws pretty boys because she likes them and the muscles are just love of the craft and admiration for the form. I had to scroll down until her 2021 art before I saw something that felt risque solely for sexual gratification. I often draw sketchy dynamic poses as well, it's just something you do when you love drawing bodies. It feels good to be able to draw a certain pose you haven't drawn before, or to be able to physically feel your improvement by drawing a complicated pose in 2 minutes or less. Making fully fledged drawings looks neat, and it's good for the portfolio but drawing a bunch of rough sketches in 30 minutes can feel more personally gratifying.

He would would regularly disappear and come back but his most recent hiatus was probably the longest. Appears to have gotten roped in as a rave gear/merch artist. Vague, sad titles to all the recent videos. His art has noticeably taken a nosedive in quality. Shakey lines and loli bullshit with color vomit. Nowadays I'm pretty distrustful of moids that have a gallery that's 99% girls as it is, but I didn't realize I was still subscribed to him. He was recently offering paid classes for $250 that only 1/100 spots have been taken. Comments on his videos are

Nonas is this artist going by anomalybroccoli using AI? Or tracing art?
This person keeps sharing art in a discord I'm in and promotes and sells it to others. I got a little suspicious because the top 2 are posted with only 2 days apart and look fairly detailed, but it's not like it's impossible to draw it in just 2 days. Checking their instagram their art quality is too awkward/lacks fundamentals even for AI, so I brushed it off at first. But it's still so… inconsistent? Like how do you draw the top if you can't even draw a simple chibi?
No. 2286940
>>2286937Playing the devil's advocate here for a second, knowing how to draw everything else doesn't exactly mean you're able to draw a good chibi. I've met many artists who are able to pump out fully rendered complex pieces but are unable to create something deformed and stylized enough to make a good chibi.
That aside, the pic on the upper right corner looks photobashed. I'm not so sure about AI though.

Not everything awkward looking is the result of AI or tracing and her art is too consistent for that, what you have come across is someone who knows how to render but lacks a good understanding of construction and form, depending on symbol drawing instead, you can see this in all her art with a background. Top right reminds me of the way glip used to draw and she was absolutely horrendous with form.
The artist seems Indonesian/Malaysian which could explain why she has such overly detailed backgrounds and characters because it all looks very similar to Indonesian and Malay traditional art and sculpture.

The subjects are like a sticker over the top, the owl is extremely flat and lacks form and is also landing at a awkward angle onto a flat arm, and I could go on and on. You just don't go from making detailed realistic human bodies with clothes and wolf faces to… a 12 year olds first chibi attempt. You can see in the pieces that have backgrounds that the backgrounds are a different style than the characters (either way too much detail or way too little detail) and the perspective doesn't match because the artist doesn't actually know how to draw backgrounds on their own.

You can try shaking them off by drawing women with adult proportions and mature themes; avoid following trends and drawing trope characters since trannies are especially attracted to trope characters rather than OCs with existing characterization. Being cold and not allowing for parasocial relationships with your following also discourages trannies attempting to butter you up into drawing "girlcock". If you still have trannies on your tail, do

>>2288598Ignoring the price issue and assuming everything was possible, my quirky ass thinks the idea is fun but I don't actually like the execution.
I understand she wants to see different body types represented as a larger woman herself, but I think they'd look better if they were more uniform, and it would make swapping their clothes easier and more fun. They should all be horses/the same animal, not a goat and a cow thrown in here and there. You can do an all goat line expansion later and give them their own magical twist. I also honestly doubt (if she's going for a kids market) any little girl is going to go "omg I finally get a fat girl who is a literal cow, just like me!" like girl- that's not gonna help lmao saying this as a former chubby kid, I gave 0 fucks about dolls being fat and I would have been so insulted if anyone insisted I had to play with fat toys "like me". That would have messed with my self-image more than any anorexic-skinny Barbie doll ever could!
Honestly also think they need to be less unique in their fashion senses. Instead of doing "cowgirl cow" and "asian street fashion horse" they should at the core all pander to the same human taste, and instead just come with a light flavor of each unique style. Like how bratz dolls all managed to have unique styles for each doll character while they all still clearly have the "bratz style". That style could then be swapped around for different series/sets so you could give them all a cowboy look, but that one horse has a slightly more streetwear twist to hers, and another has cutesy florals added etc. Right now nothing is really tying them together as unit.
And lastly their clothes are a bit too sexy/porny. Garter belts is definitely not it for a kids line, and even for adults, it comes off as lingerie meant to be sexy which isn't something you want for a line that walks around with their ass hanging out in the open. It should be changed to look more like whatever horse belts/garlands are called.

Or have an adult line with a younger line with less defined bodies that are more pudgy with baby fat. I honestly think they would look cute if they were aged down and had more cutsey children's clothing than adults with themed outfits. I'm imagining something like emerald the enchanting witch(picrel) or whatever it was called but with a chubby pony body. It would fit her vintage style better as well.

Tbf I understand wanting to be paid for your work as an artist, especially by a company like disney/marvel, and this was part of a larger thread where she said they pay artists poverty wages and they hadn’t sent her pay for work she submitted 2 months ago. So I can’t fault her for calling out big companies(because those companies can exploit other artists too), but where she crosses the line is trying to tear down other artists and affect their livelihoods. why does every fantasy doll nowadays insist on using modern fashion? Horse girls are also going to find this off-putting, since they just want to play with regular horse toys. And kids into fashion would rather dress up a human doll because their clothes looks more "real".
But I can see this being popular amongst adult collectors. I'm personally not into this but I gotta admit it is a fun concept
No. 2297668
>>2297551>why does every fantasy doll nowadays insist on using modern fashion?Hasn't that always been the case? Fashion dolls are supposed to dress… fashionly, and what is considered cool is whatever clothes are trendy/modern at that time.
I wasn't a fan of human-shapped toys when I was a kid besides Bratz though, so I'm not very knowledgeable. But I have always seen dolls are trying to be modern, not many kids would find appealing clothes that their grandma wore, even if trends are circular.

>>2297668I had many princess and fairy dolls that had ball-gowns or leaf inspired dresses stuff l. It definitely was contemporary takes on dresses like that, but they they didn't use accessories like sunglasses, belts and miniskirts. To be fair princess dolls like that
did exist when I was a kid, I just didn't care for them lol.
(incoming autism) Amongst the centaur dolls, I think the Marigold character is a good mix of contemporary and fantasy elements. She is covered in flowers, which is expected from a mythological creature associated with nature. And she has some design elements which feels vaguely rococo (pastel colors, corset and necklace) which invokes a feeling of the past. This is the sort of things I would look after in fantasy toys as a kid. While obviously modern, it still would have felt like something that could pass as historical in my child mind. I didn't know what rococo was as a child, but what I did know was that design elements like this, reminded me of old paintings.
The Minerva character on the other hand feels too contemporary. She is inspired by eerie forests, Sleepy Hollow and autumn, but I'm seeing
none of those elements. Why is she wearing a crop top? Eerie girls who live in the forest don't do that
also the outfit used for inspiration is kinda coomerish. Though doll itself isn't coomerish to be fair The same goes for the Nara character. The thai elements are cool, but nothing about her says tropical jungle, which is a shame because tropical jungles are beautiful. Tropical jungles are also known for being vibrant and colorful and the characters colors look so muted compared to the jungle pictures.
Basically, you could give these two characters human legs and put them in any other setting. While the other characters at least have design elements that tell us what sort of environment they are from. Though Marigold is the only one who has a nature-y/"ethereal" feel to her. So for me, in order to make a fantasy fashion doll, instead of a modern fashion doll, elements from nature should be used (even if it's just something simple as adding flowers) and inspiration from historical clothing should be taken.

Nobody can say anything about it without being called racist so everyone has to pretend that these racebent characters are completely the same as fanart with the canon designs. I normally wouldn't have a problem with this at all but these same people will dogpile artists for drawing a darker skinned character with slightly different skin tone from the colorpicked hex codes. Meanwhile people argue why raceswaps shouldn't exist period.
At this point in fandom, we've already kind of shrugged our shoulder at all the numerous ways fanart transforms the original work. Drawing characters especially children as more developed than they are, more muscular, or just straight up like pornifiying them, giving them different hairstyles, different facial shapes, furry version, AU-versions, ectera- That going "I draw a line at the raceswaping" looks hypocritical. I agree that I would prefer people make their own OCs rather than racebend existing character. But I also think a lot of OCs are genuinely irritating because they are made to virtue signal and suck in pretty much every other aspect. I have a few major pet peeves:
- the most random fucking race mixes ever. If the point is representation why not go for something more possible?
- vitiligo, esp for characters based on animals. Given that "cow" is a common insult for kids with vitiligo, maybe this isn't the best route. Bonus points if the vitiligo is extremely inaccurate.
- characters that are literally just their disabilities, fashion sense and nothing else. Bonus points if the disability in question is written inaccurately.
Picrel is actually a human version of Rain (a horse) from the Spirit movie, to illustrate the inaccurate vitiligo virtue signaling. I am not a medfag but I am pretty sure this is not how this works.

It's also funny how western weebs are getting hyped over "Japanese" users getting fed up as if white guys haven't been google translate asianfishing for years.
I agree that making OC is the best course of action, but it isn't a perfect solution. We're to the point where OCs and completely original projects are overlooked or being labeled as woke garbage for even having black or brown characters without any troon or gender shit in sight. And if you point it out sometimes you get called an anime-tourist-zoomer-anti-go-back-to-Twitter, or some shit. A lot of these subtleties get lost in translation especially now with social media being so big.

All that is to say is that western society thinks we're similar to Japan, but the way that they view fiction and the tropes within it are different to us. They see these drawings as harassment because they hate when you edit their pure anime because it's important to them for some reason. They get really upset over redraws or traces that aren't even political. If you take an anime character and draw a different character over it, they will act like you're the devil. I know some anons complain about it, but from my experience it's easier to find artists posting personal projects on Artstation than a lot of social media sites (not that they're
not posting on them too, it's just harder to find because of how those sites work imo). I've also found artists I enjoy through things like painting videos and looking people up after seeing their work at an exhibition/gallery/their name in the credits of published media they worked on. Each artist you find is also often a stepping stone to others, as they tend to like and follow people making similar things or other interesting original content.
tbh I think all good art requires a bit of effort on your part to find, even fanart– the skilled artists who have interesting ideas while playing around with existing ip often get buried by generic sketches and memes, or will be harder to find due to language differences.

Kids want shiny new toys, that's been known since the beginning of time. Especially these days when tiktok has rotted everyone's attention spans and creators fight to stay relevant, I feel like people here who take their social media careers seriously should know that more than anyone. If you leave things sitting with no updates for a while, everyone is going to forget about it, and eventually, the brand is going to become uncool and the younger generation won't want to touch it unless there's some miracle and it becomes trendy again, like the current scene culture resurgence. I also have my media from my formative years I cling to and get shocked when I realize kids don't care about it, but that's just the way it is. Star Trek was literally the biggest thing ever in the 20th century and now it's only old people who talk about it. Same with Harry Potter, it has a reputation for being a hobby for 30+ year old women. Things just simply go out of date, and people inspired by the old things make new things. Even if we were to keep rerunning these old shows over and over, other people would still create new cartoons and movies that would steal the spotlight. >>2307345I don't doubt it had it's popularity but I'm saying it's past it's prime. I associate it with shit like Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi and Teen Titans which had it's run in the limelight but people have moved on because it's an old show with no new content. People moving on to new media when they have no new content is a normal thing. And just because some scenes went viral on certain portions of the internet doesn't mean kids are lining up to watch it. It's literally about to get taken off of HBO max, less people are going to have access to it. I don't understand what you people are freaking out about. If you can't fathom the fact that kids want to watch things that are current and new then you must be the one in a bubble because you just must not interact with kids. School aged children want to be able to talk about their interests with their peers, so they'll watch the shit that everyone else is watching.

>>2307375What are your favourite hobbies and topics that aren't art related? Try drawing inspiration from those, for example an artist might really like marine biology and the ocean so includes a lot of naval and marine imagery and this also influences the way she designs characters etc. If you don't really have anything like that (though you'd be surprised at what interests you can push into art) you could try researching fashion from different eras, medical anatomy, art history, stuff like that.
An artist's style forms naturally, but when you're in a rut with a very stiff muscle memory sort of style, really researching the whys and hows people made art can be incredibly inspiring and sort of resets your viewpoint, there's a lot to be gleaned from medieval and renaissance era art, surrealism, impressionism and expressionism, even post modernism has a few things to say (though be careful with this movement) and so many other movements. Another way you could work out your stylistic choices is to do art studies of your favourite artists and try to get it as 1:1 as possible without tracing or colour picking, if they've made speedpaints it'd be a lot easier to snipe things from but it's very possible to do with just looking very closely. At the end of the studies (I used to pick three to six pieces to recreate) you can work out what choices you'd like to implement in your own art and what you'd rather not touch again.
TL;DR- implement non-art interests, research and style snipe.

>>2307426I get where you're coming from, but sometimes it's just because an artist is very lonely rather than a self obsession and I can't help but feel sympathetic. In the most extreme case of this, I follow an artist who is a hikkineet because of mental illness
and she's physically disabled and deformed from a suicide attempt and she spends her time role playing as different faucets of herself. Gendies and handmaidens who do this I find more annoying and egotistical, they already have a built in friend group despite how inauthentic it is and gendies by nature are extremely boring and create boring things because of their egocentricity.

Picrel is her work (albeit very low quality because its a instagram sc), she draws a lot of realistic gore and art about her attempt, and she has very interesting but sad worldbuilding- the world her story takes place in is inside her corpselike rotten body that is puppeted by a separate spirit, the rest of her ocs are the various parasites inside her, two of which (picrel) nag the spirit into being increasingly self destructive to the body with the black one in particular wanting her to die.

Meant to say disfigured rather than deformed but she's lost basically the entirety of one leg and part of her remaining foot and, judging from self portraits and art about the event, heavy scarring along one side of her body. I want to take cute anime aesthetics and make them my own so people can actually like an artist that isn't a pedophile with tons of nsfw shit on their page for once while still being able to like moe anime girls. I don't trust a moid to be able to achieve this since they're all degenerate and end up embedding sexual shit into their drawings even when they're pretending to be above it.

>>2309177Most anime fan moids I've seen can like cgdct shows like that yes, but for fanart specifically for example a lot of them tend to like the porn and suggestive art of the characters even if they'll still like normal drawings. One look at the average male weeb's twitter and it's them rt'ing suggestive fanart of their favourite shows, even when they're not really super sexualized in canon. Another thing I'm thinking of is getting good at drawing pretty boys as well and sexualizing those instead.
>>2309184Sure, but by that logic you wouldn't draw any normal female character art out of fear some moid out there might like it. It's just a pattern I noticed where some artists won't draw anything sexualized and they'll tend to have less male followers (gooners especially) compared to the ones that center their entire art around drawing half naked girls.
No. 2309240
>>2309175What are you talking about? References are not training wheels, using them is a normal and expected part of the artistic process.
Most artists use references, and the only way to get so good you can draw without a reference is to use references. And maybe you can't find the exact reference you want for, like, a woman running in a flowing silk skirt, but you can easily find separate references of a woman running and a flowing silk skirt. I'd also recommend familiarizing yourself with fabric/draping and using movie/tv stills as references instead of static photographs to maintain a sense of motion. Tl;dr you're going to struggle without references for a very long time, but eschewing their usefulness is not the answer.

>>2309175Thats a great analogy and one of the things Ive struggled with as well; references are great, but when you dont have them its harder to draw from memory and it ends up feeling stiff and unnatural. how Ive been practicing is by doing warmups that improve confidence with dynamic folds, these warm ups dont have to be the most accurate and the anatomy can be simplified for fold practice only, all that matters is that you get the hang of drawing the pleats and folds smoothly so you dont over rely on a direct reference. Some folds i practice are bent arms, loose sleeves, and skirt pleats, these gestures are heavily simplified and i usually set a timer so I dont over compensate on the details and focus on getting the basic motions. I hope this wasnt too confusing since Im self taught and mostly go by the flow until it looks good. You'll eventually get the hang of it and start to memorize key folds from practice and analyzing photos

>>2309315obligatory disclaimer, but theres no set rules or "wrong way" on how to draw, only habits that could hinder your personal progress on improving; they dont necessarily make you a bad artist, its more of a road block that you eventually overcome with practice and experience; having someone to help point you to the right direction with advice speeds up the process.
An example of these habits being over relying on reference, do you struggle with visualizing a pose or idea without finding an image on pinterest to mimic? do your studies off references look stiff and wonky? Usually thats a sign you need more practice in gestures and building confidence from drawing from the mind.

>>2311264I agree, I don't like either. For the left, it's because she's bland but also because she's so clearly an actress' facescan– I don't like looking at a character, who isn't like a movie tie-in so needs to be accurate to the film, and just being able to tell I'm looking at some real person's face. It's autistic, I know, but imo it weakens the overall design by it not being an intentionally made aspect of the character (sometimes this is okay, but other times it can be a bit idk off? uncanny?). I know why it's done, but I still dislike it kek. The right is obviously coombait, but I also just don't like every other stylisation choice regardless of that, and it's also too obvious that the character's appearance tells us nothing other than that she's 'sexy', making it also bland but for a different reason than the left one. I also feel like I'd seen her a million times already the day she was revealed, she's so generic.
When it comes to 'ugliness' in female designs though, I think the problem is that being bland and frumpy is the direction a lot of female character designs tend to take, rather than something more 'characterful'– if you think about it, a lot of uglier male designs will be interestingly weathered or have exaggerated features that still result in an appealing design.

>>2311254She's an artist who use her art to conciencie about circus, (bad) zoos, why some animals aren't good for pets, how to deal with pet loss, etc. But in this comic it feels like a slap in the face at everything she did before, because she used to cite reliable sources and now she's citing the sea version of Peta.
Worst thing is that in this comic she's not only showing the people of Faroe Islands like "evil and blood mouth demons", but most of the "go vegan!" sheltered people are asking why they cannot just buy stuff from the market. Yeah, go ahead and buy a $12 lettuce that will last for few days vs meat that can be freeze and last for 6 months.
It would have been different with a comic about Tauromaquia, which the bull is killed LIKE sport, but not in a place where they rely on dolphins and whale for food.

>I wouldn't be interested in a game with a plain average looking female But you're interested in games with average looking males? Because a lot of games are like that and nobody ever said a word. Also, I think it's fine if they don't want to play because of that, but the child trantrums men throw online at every single game that doesn't fit their criteria is peak retardation. Especially when so many other games still have pretty women. So it's's not only about games, it's about punching women down. Anons trying to take a centrist stance in this issue are pathetic. ''b-but her design is boring!1!'' its fucking mary jane, have you literally NEVER send a spiderman movie or show? her only traits are being a redhead and being peter's love interest. The only reason why moids are pissed off its because she was part of their autistic super hero power fantasy, the prize they get after defeating villians. Thats her whole purpose. Moids are only mad because she looks like a normal woman and not like the coom worms campbell draws.

Where can i learn to render characters to hide my lack of skill? i am making characters for a game and its my only saving grace for them to look good since i lack whatever character designing blessing zun has and i am just a begginer. I just want to do simple anime shading.
No. 2312503
>>2312491Plain colors -> Soft airbrush shading (cover large-ish areas like the bottom half of the hair or clothes, make it subtle but still noticeable if you stare at the image for longer than 4 seconds) -> Paint main shadows (what the sun casts) -> Give main shadows a bit of airbush as well for color variation -> Paint reflected shadows (look at the hat casting shadow in the hair, or the little bit of light that passes thru the hat's holes) -> Doesnt appear on yout picrel, but bouncing light is always good (at the extremes of your shadow parts, remove a bit of shadow or color it with a lighter color across the border, stuff like floor or random objects can reflect light back to yout character) -> Play around with color curves and filters.
All of this requires you A) Color knowledge and B) Shape understanding to know where and how to apply shadows, but that's the general procress.
There isnt a magic trick that will make your art look good without you putting some effort on it though, you can't expect good results if all you do is to lazy around. You can give someone the most expensive meat and spices, but if they didn't even read a single cookbook or tocuhed a frying pan, they will probably burn the meat or use the spices wrongly making the dish taste awful. Same with art, even if some styles look simple they still have a good chunk of study hours behind them.

Because a lot of games are like that and nobody ever said a word.Ayrt, personally I haven't say a word because in general I give zero shits about a boring or fugly male protagonist, it's so far off my radar I wouldn't even be aware of its existence in most cases. I don't tend to comment on female characters either though, I only commented on this one because it was put in front of me here on lc.
>Either angry because they're not their impossible ideals or angry because other female gamers want different things than them.Another anon mentioned they both seem like they're designed by men, which I agree with. I don't see women championing the design as good, saying that is exactly what they wanted in a design etc. Women just seem upset that "an average woman"-design is being scrutinized for not being sexy coom for men. Which is of course fine and justified, but I think in this case it would be a bit hypocritical of me to go "ugh men only want sexy designs" when I literally find the same design off-putting too. Then it's just me going "how dare you call this ugly off-putting female character ugly and off-putting!!!".
It doesn't seem like men are angry that women want different designs, it seems to me like some men now design boring female characters and expect praise for it - from women - when they at no point stopped to ask a single woman what kind of designs women actually like. It reminds me of the first ugly sonic, someone really thought that was the right direction to go even though it was so obviously ugly to anyone who cares about sonic and all they had to do was ask. Still feels like no one is designing "for women", and we still kind of get blamed when female characters look boring and ugly as if it's what WE wanted.

>>2311757>but I draw the line at sapient beings.I mean sure, but the comic was about whale hunting. A chimpanzee is not in any way close to a whale. One of whales closest land-living relatives are cows, which we literally farm just to eat so it's really not that different. If anything keeping cows should arguably be seen as more cruel because we feed and protect them as if we're their friends when the entire time our intention is to kill them and eat them and their children kek. The whale is a free wild animal who gets hunted by other whales and sharks, it's already part of their natural life-cycle.
The problem with hunting whales (or any animal) is OVER-hunting them, which those small remote communities where they
need to hunt them to survive do not do and it's why they're legally allowed to hunt whales while others are not. A deer and a cow has just as many feelings as a whale.

When I do find a character attractive, it's usually a mix of them having an eye-catching, well-thought-out design and an interesting personality and story. My problem with 'safe' designs, coom or not, is that they blend in with other examples from similar media and that just doesn't engage me or make me want to seek out the game they're from etc.
(also I really hope I'm not coming across as dissing things like Love and Deepspace, I'm glad that those who enjoy it have something that they feel caters to them, the example used just looked bland to me as a character design)

But from someone whose art still kinda sucks to another, my trick was going from the usual anime style to a paintery one. If there are lots of colors (as long as they're coherent) your brain will find the image pleasing. Give your brush some color jitter, texture brush and don't get limited by lineart, giving the general idea often does the trick. Zoom in on picrel or simply check old masters' paintings, they're just blobs but when looking from a distance it looks good.
You can also color pick from art you enjoy or even copy/trace small details.

>>2312815> I honestly think it's more impressive when people can make incredibly simple art that looks goodAgree. Normies are wowed by pretty colors, but when you’re an artist yourself you realize it takes good knowledge of fundamentals to make something simple yet appealing. You can’t rely on rendering, you have to make the basic structure hold up on it’s own. It’s why I’m personally more interested in seeing sketches/linework.
As much as it pains me to say though, the true test of artistic talent is drawing feet. They have a very specific structure a lot of artists seem to struggle understanding, plus you have to put them in the right perspective to make it look like a character is actually standing on solid ground in three dimensional space. If the feet are drawn well then everything else is usually drawn well too. Once you start looking for it you realize which artists know their fundies and which ones are just style/rendermaxxing.

We need to go back to the days of women's arts circles and trading zines. I've been thinking about doing this with an irl friend, just biting the bullet and forming an art club in our town. Memberships would be controlled, we could learn and build skills, and maybe sell locally. We live in an artsy town that does regular arts and maker markets, so it would be doable. > i am making characters for a game and its my only saving grace for them to look goodLearning how to draw to the point your simple sketches are appealing takes decades, and i am planning to work on this project this year. My goal isnt to get good right now, but rather learn how to make appealing characters using rendering to hide my begginer faults. One of the things that stopped me from working on my project is that i suck at drawing, and that it would take me probably a decade to be good at art, even if i draw and practice literally every day. That's why i am asking about rendering. Pic rel is a good example of what i mean, its anatomy is attrocious but looks nice thanks to its rendering.
