The bits of petticoat under the skirt are too small and look like they're not peeking out intentionnally. If you were going for something that evokes a star, then the original design does it somewhat better. The very thin wings look as awkward if not more as the original design, as do the ribbons sticking out of her hair and her jabot. The darker shade of blue could have probably been added somewhere on the dress to balance the colors out more, or the color of the boots could have been replaced to the lighter shade altogether: as it is, this brings a lot of attention to her shoes for no particular reason. As for the most obvious thing, it seems pretentious to criticize someone's art or design with a drawing that is technically more lackluster (even if it was a quick doodle).
I do think replacing the golden gauntlets with gloves was a good call.

Elio, the lead character of Pixar's upcoming film. It's a sci-fi movie about a kid that gets abducted by aliens who think he's the leader of Earth. I anticipate it will end up bombing and the character design will be part of it. Animated sci-fi never does well, I think audiences implicitly want sci-fi to be cool but Elio doesn't look cool he looks like a dork and none of the aliens look cool either they look like they were designed to be turned into plushies. The general art direction for the character designs looks really soft, what would attract kids to see this? He looks like the kid that would remind the teacher she forgot to assign homework.
Apparently this movie is supposed to focus on the bond between mother and son so that makes me wonder if he was designed to be the ideal son from a mother's perspective but I don't think little boys are interested in characters like that.

The most iffy parts in DS1 are the Izalith daughters, well, Quelaag and the Fair Lady at least. I get the whole thing with showing how badly the Witch of Izalith fucked up by having her beautiful daughters corrupted, it's an understandable motif, but it's still a bit too "women in refrigerators" for me. The existence of Ceaseless Discharge and how he's the most miserable of them all kinda balances that out for me, thankfully. Like at least his sisters can still exist in the world, and Quelana is more or less just a normal woman, while Ceaseless is stuck standing in lava in eternal pain and suffering.
