The third thread for one of the absolute worst YouTube artists. She's come under increased criticism over the past few months for her inability to take critique, general narcissism, excessive spending and hoarding of children's toys and art supplies, and laziness. She also draws like a 12 year old and has her very own "How to Draw" book coming out in December.

You mean delete anything that triggers in them in the slightest bit? Some of the stuff they deleted didn't even make sense

No. 422566

Cutting back on the art streams hasn't helped her. The artwork from this latest stream is a prime example in how bad her drawings have gotten

No. 422567

The mods are just little Baylee's who are just as rude as her. Also, the artwork looks like ass.

I don't understand the light source for this because of the one on the hand and on the face don't match

No. 422570

I think that the colors look decent but its just the same boring "girl with roses looking into camera" that she always does. Also the anatomy is awful, the hand isn't /that/ bad, it's sort of sausage fingery, but the shoulders are way to0 small. The subject's hair isn't big enough to really cover her shoulders, so they shouldn't have been omitted.

No. 422571

also that wonky ass eye lmao. her head isn't fucking tilted that's not an acceptable excuse.

No. 422573

She should have worked on the hand, it's shading doesn't match the body/neck area along with the face.

But she's missing a thumb.

Also, the blush on the cheeks doesn't look natural. It was poorly blended, hence the harsh line.

No. 422591

>>422587
Also the way she rendered the lips. They look too glossy and big for the face. Going with a lighter tone could have helped this (also not scrunching them up so close to the potato nose)

Damn, Baylee. You first take away her shoulders and now her thumb?! Someone save this poor girl (the drawing)

She could have fixed it during the sketch when a bunch of people told her it was, what's her excuse?

No. 422692

All I could see during the stream was the wonky eye, now though I can’t see past the god awful hair!!! How do you go that many years and still not be able to draw hair!! (This isn’t a one time “bad art day” thing either, we all have those) Jez she’s really going backwards, she draws like I did when I was 14 and even then I knew what I was doing was shot! She needs to take a serious step back and reevaluate what she’s doing and swap her 4 hour gaming streams for art unless she really wants to continue to regress

No. 422693

>>422692
I honestly feel like she’s taking steps backwards. It’s kinda scary that her art doesn’t improve. My art has drastically improved from even 3 years ago. She just doesn’t care to try? Or maybe she’s just can’t improve? Her art is so stunted. It also doesn’t help that she draws the same subject matter constantly, girls/women…. or derpy cats with ditto faces.

No. 422699

>>422693
I found my work changed drastically after even completeing inktober. I see improvement over the space of months, If I was baylee and I’d done that stupid sketchbook slam challenge & went backward rather than improved I’d either be so motivated to get better or just give up. Baylee seems to be completely happy so stay right where she is. That drawing today was awful on so many levels I don’t know how that took her hours to do

No. 422704

I'm pretty much shit at art and to be completely honest - I could have drawn this, to this exact quality in about an hour.

It's so frustrating that she's too arrogant to see how much she's not improving/regressing. Sure her minions are constantly telling her she's perfect but I doubt she listens to them - I think the bigger issue is her family. I get they want to support her and whatever but framing her mediocre work as if it's fine art and constantly telling her how amazing she is at this is not helping her attitude.

Do I find it stupid to spend that much money on a Disney doll? Yes, of course. But that's because I dislike dolls and Disney princesses. Let's keep the thread mostly for valid criticism, not that all mentions of her stupid purchases are wrong, but let's just not linger too long. If she constantly complained about being broke like Holly does then purchased all that crap, I'd understand the milk. But that isn't really the case.

At no point did she say she didn't stop the dryer, just that she was too scared to look inside. It's pretty fair to not want to possibly look at your dead cat. There's plenty of things to criticise about Baylee but I don't think this is one of them.

Fair, but if it'd had been on for hours (not that we have any idea but still) I'm imagining there's pretty much no chance of survival, at least in a way that means the cat can still live a happy life.

Also I'm not a white knight, I'm here cuz she fucking irritates me. I just know if I thought my cat was dead I probably wouldn't want to look either. Although I agree it's shitty not to if there's even a small chance it's still alive and could be helped.

I wish Baylee would enroll in some life drawing classes but I'm sure that she thinks she's beyond that. She could at least go out and sit in a park or her beloved Tim Horton's and practice her life drawing that way. It would help give her art some fluidity. And make for more interesting vlogs. But I'm sure Baylee feels that because she's graduated art school she's done learning.

No. 424950

>>424907
But anon she's been noted to have worked in the animation industry – surely she took life drawing classes during that time, I know it was emphasized in the courses I've been taking. No. 424959

>>424954
I'll do my best, the video was deleted so I'm doing all of this from memory. If anyone sees I'm missing something or got something wrong, pls correct me!

Okay, so it starts off with Baylee saying that basically art block doesn't exist and to not make excuses for not making art. She justified her reasoning in beveling it doesn't exist because she's supposedly never experienced it before, and that saying that a person has art block does not justify them not meeting deadlines. The last line was kinda what pissed everyone off which was that "If you don't want to make art all the time, then maybe you don't love art as much as you thought you did."

Okay that's the majority of what I remember, I hope this helped. Keep in mind, people were pissed off because, in a very Baylee fashion, she was snarky and rather rude in her delivery of her points.

It was also mostly to do with her tone through the entire video rather than what she was saying, It was very up her own ass and talking down to the viewer. There was a lot of “well sweetie sorry to break it to you” etc. Her attitude just stunk.

>Our right eye is too high up or left eye is too low

>Baylee's pose is straight whereas the references has the head curved a bit
>Baylee's mouth looks like it's slightly open
>Nose too big
>Baylee the face is actually tilted this time, you could have used your excuse
>Baylee's hair looks flat and greasy
>Ears are too far out
>Neck is too wide

Yeah… This. I mean, it looks like the younger, not as pretty sibling from the reference image.
I mean, it's not so bad especially considering it's Baylee and considering it's a study after all, but yeah, she sounds like she's trying to prove she's hot shit too and that she just chooses to draw a girl with wonky eyes and no neck.

You should study a bit more, Baylee dear.

I just want to liquify and straighten out that nose. And shrink the head as well. And the lips. Her drawing is just littered with amateurish mistakes.

The point of making studies is to familiarize yourself with human anatomy so you can use it as a foundation if you want to stylize your drawing.

I haven't seen previous threads, but does she ever draw realistic portraits traditionally?

She's gonna need more than this to impress us…

She would be mostly training her observational and value skills with that portrait she was doing. Right off the bat you can take most of the value skills off, because she is color picking the reference image.
As for observation, I find that she was too dependant on the liquify tool. By no means am I saying people shouldn't use liquify, but it's a thing you should use deliberately, to save time and not because you are completely dependent on it.
Everything is stiff, she was unable to portray any emotion from the reference.
Something a really great digital painter told me once and I took to heart was to learn how to draw first and paint later. That's a reason why no matter how much digital magic Baylee sprinkles on that painting, it's still bad because she ultimately doesn't know how to draw properly. There's a reason people tell you to learn fundamentals so much guys, because it's absolutely essential.

Also, she's talking about how traditional media, specially markers, hold her back because if she was painting with oils it would be easier to fix mistakes. She has the whole idea backwards. Yes, being able to fix mistakes easier is a nice perk, but you're not supposed to be totally dependent on it. Work on better fundamentals instead of focusing too much on being able to fix things on one specific piece. When she draws with pencil her art isn't any better just because she has an eraser to wipe away her mistakes. In fact, having too much liberty to erase things away can be worse for you when you're learning. It's important to accept your mistakes, learn from them and move on instead of spending all your time trying to polish one single turd. Leave the polishing for a few select things, rather than trying to make everything you draw a finished piece, Mrs. "I don't sketch".

tl;dr as always Baylee is missing the point, no, traditional art is not holding her back, her stupid decisions and laziness are.

The thing I find really weird about this study is how fast she goes into details rather than working on the shadow shapes to get a better likeness later on. I've seen a lot of videos and read that it's a lot better to go from big shapes to smaller ones (you can find free summaries of Sargen's writings on the matter online) so that you don't focus on the features as early as she does.

I've just seen this thread pop up every now and then and decided to check who she was, but it seems weird that she'd teach others when she seems not to be too far from a beginner herself. It would benefit her a lot to watch videos by Steve Houston and read Maughan's guide to drawing the head. Both of them explain how important shadow patterns are a lot better than I could.

The problem here isn't wether it's cheating or not, it's just that if she keeps using it as a hack rather than knowing what she's doing and just using liquify as a time saver, it's not going to help her grow.

I don’t have a problem with fixing things that you notice later are wrong using whatever tools, traditional or digital, you have on offer! However I think baylee desperately needs to do something like inktober where she concentrates completely on linework and doesn’t hide behind colouring because she makes way too many really obvious mistakes then tries to cover them! If you’re continuously drawing wonky eyes then maybe you might want to think about working on your sketching. That’s basically drawing 101

But based on what's posted here, she barely improved, and with her attitude, she'll just end up stagnating and remain at whatever mediocre level she is now.

You can do it both ways. She went with blocking out big shapes and then tweaking and refining things as she went along, sculpting if you will. And her thinking "traditional media/markers were holding her back because it's easier to fix mistakes digitally/while using oil paints" is so damn stupid. LEARN HOW TO DRAW, BAYLEE! That's how you make your stuff look good, rather than depending on having a way to fix your mistakes.

While she's absolute shit with watercolors at least she spent a few years with a lower level supply before going straight for the best, and even when she did she didn't get the biggest set. And it was a present, I don't think it's bad that she chose those watercolors instead of some other crap. I think sometimes we get too caught up on the mentality of whether that person DESERVES such a high level supply and forget that in the end of the day they're just tools. Not some trophy of merit or something. But I also understand you guys' frustration, it can be annoying to see someone who clearly puts so little effort into something being "rewarded" with good supplies.

And again, she's pretty tame compared to some other people. Like the previously mentioned Ardeesign who hoards a ridiculous amount of professional watercolor supplies with very meh art (pic related). Check her out on Instagram if you wanna be salty.

Holly's relationship with Baylee seems weird. From what I've observed there seems to be some sort of one-sided love/hate (or rather, tolerate/hate) thing going on. Holly and friends have shit-talked Baylee in the past and probably still do in private, but Holly herself acts as if she wants to get buddy buddy with BJ. Holly's always commenting essays in her videos and even did a response to her infamous Art Block vid (which I think is still up, despite Baylee deleting her original video like a pussy). Holly agreed with Baylee in a way that came across as very asskissy. Just my theory, but it seems like Holly wants to be art pals with as many 'famous' youtube artist as she can. She's even chummy with Pan Pizza.

No. 429057

>>429044
Yeah, I noticed that too. I found Holly through the art block video and noticed that it was around the time she would comment on Baylee's videos. That's a tactic that a lot of people use to get noticed.

To me it looks like Holly acts like an arse to these people because deep inside she wants to be included (didn't she make a piece in theme with the YTAC once without being in the collective?), thus why when they seem to notice her/support her she gets super excited, like when Baylee did her Slam Challenge.

No. 429061

>>429058
I think it also has to do with people trying to get traffic to their channels. I know some smaller art youtubers have done artworks related to the YTAC, I think it's partially her wanting to be included in the actual collective and also for the possible traffic. But this is something I remember Lemia and Baylee mentioning which is that they (specifically, I know Zyra is a bit more friendly with the other members) are not super connected with the people they collaborate with.

Everyone I know who has something like a doll house collection, it’s been passed down from a relative/ they’re building it with passing it down as a future motive (can’t exaclty take it with you when you die) so gluing down the parts just seems odd to me, maybe glueing down the plates to the table and stuff but gluing the furniture into exact spots? I’m really not one to give a shit how people spend their money, it just made me cringe when she mentioned gluing it all down

No. 429259

Holly's channel is detached from the art youtube scene which is generally more PG than her usual videos. It's her trying to get through the door and also she probably just wants to be included too. Agreed, and when her stans defend her saying that she's "supa busy" it's laughable. We can see through the vlogs that she has a lot of time to practice and improve. Heck, she could roll a couple of oil paintings so while one is drying she's already starting on another one! I think someone had brought that up and she got super pissy about it, even though that would be an efficient system.

Have you ever noticed some people who don't have a lot of structure in their lives (like what a job schedule would provide) tend to think they have much less time than they actually have? I have noticed this in people other than Baylee and even myself when I didn't have a job.
The more you have to do, the more stamina you develop and the easier it gets to accomplish several tasks in a day. Momentum generates more momentum. When you're used to doing less, every minor thing you do seems like such an accomplishment.
It's probably where Baylee is trapped at the moment.

I've thrown water at my cats when they were doing shit and that doesn't keep them from doing it anyway. Perhaps your cats are more well behaved than mine, but training won't work (at least not that easily) with all cats. I have a similar problem with one of mine, but the other three are good since they were trained at a younger age. She honestly caves too easily, I think her defense for not locking them out was that Kiki cries at the door when she works but that's because the cat knows she can get what she wants if she screams enough. It's kinda like with kids, if you show them screaming isn't going to sway you, they usually don't bother with it. Idk, maybe I'm too strict but it's worked for me.

It does affect it. If it's posted in the middle of the night in North America, and the majority of her audience is in North America, then when they log in in the morning it will be further down in their subscription feeds, and they will be less likely to see it. The algorithm heavily weights the views and engagement from the first few days, so the better the video does right away, the more likely it is to get recommended and suggested to others.

It's frustrating how she's trying to push her shitty methods onto kids. You don't always need to use a liner pen, in her case it makes her pieces look super stiff. Adding the line weight didn't do much to make me like the one on the right, it just looks like she's trying to cover her mistakes.

No. 436160

>>436143
Sorry, art beginner here, but I was under the impression that line weight does matter and you do add on line weight AFTER an initial inking, especially if you've inked with super thin lines?
Unless you're like Holly and you ink everything in with super duper thick pens.

No. 436172

When executed properly, yes, but Baylee usually places the thicker lines where she makes mistakes, not because it was an intentional decision. I'm more getting at that she shouldn't be teaching this when she can't even apply it properly, especially since her methods seem to make her artwork overall incredibly stiff. She did a collab with several artists in the past, and when you compare how they've lined their work, the thinness of their lines and the slight variation gives their pieces more movement. Idk, didn't mean to spurg, I honestly think she would benefit from practicing line-less work and just going in with charcoal to understand value but that's just me.

One way I was taught to use lineweights was the simulate lighting – usually thicker lines give the illusion of shadow when placed properly. Portions closer to the light source would have thinner lines while those away from it would have thicker, the thickest can usually be seen at the bottom of some portions of clothing.

It almost sounded like she was bashing having a "normal" job and like pursuing a more versatile career is "giving up." Not everyone has family members who will spends hundreds of dollars on your originals and having a degree in something like business/communications can help if you want to try art on the side. They've been together for like ten years or something so I don't expect them to still be up each other's asses and I know that Christian doesn't seem very comfortable on camera but….Their relationship just feels so empty. I don't think the problem of her vlogs being boring comes from her not leaving the house. There are so many ways to be entertaining, and when I watched her vlogs it didn't bother me one bit that she stayed inside. The problem is her personality, which is so much more bitchy and uninteresting now. I also find that people who insist on filming their pets too much make for boring vlogs. We get it, Baylee, your cats did a cute.
Also, it's interesting to watch people working on art when they improve, which isn't Baylee's case. Watching her vlogs now just feels like watching someone in decline, from her personality to her art. She's slowly turning into a boring ass crafty mom type.

It's been clear to me since she put out that art block video that she just dislikes doing art. She makes it sound like a chore she's basically forced to do. You never see her do regular sketches or gesture studies or anything that most artists do in their spare time. Nada. Learn to do better art and come out of your damn comfort zone and so you don’t come off as a childish artist.

For someone who loves her cats so much and usually makes smart decisions regarding them it shocks me a little bit that she has one of those self replenishing feeders for her cat's dry food. It's really not a good idea to leave food out for cats all day because they can over eat and gain weight really easily. It's much better to have set feeding times (like she does with their wet food) and it would be a good idea to maybe get them a puzzle feeder for some extra enrichment.

Also those dishes were whack and if her schedule is keeping her from being able to keep her house clean then maybe she shouldn't be doing shit like arty advent and the sketchbook slam.

I honestly think she was ok. I expected this video to have a very condescending tone but it wasn't as bad as I expected. She was open to critique, and let's be real guys, the way some of you choose to critique her really does sound like bullshit sometimes. Like how the thread will turn into people talking about her being fat and her relationship with Christian.

I judge her for not wanting to improve much, but in the end of the day no one can force her to and we're just losing time which we could be practicing our own art minding her business. It's like how you can't really force a smoker to stop even if it's clearly and obviously bad for them.

I also don't like when she brings up the sketchbook slam challenge, but if we stop to think about it she's so behind in art that she probably actually thinks the slam challenge would be a good exercise.

There’s a reason ppl are complaining about her videos. They aren’t all personal attacks or people being envious of her life. She’s playing victim in the video. It’s laughable

I would make a new thread if I knew how lol

Honestly, I think her response video was the best thing that could happen since it brakes the facade she's created. Since she's likely to delete the comments of people who actually care about her and possible ban them, I'm sure we'll be having more people join the thread lol

Can someone pls make a new thread, I'm a noob and don't know what I'm doing

Umm lemia whatever her name is, have you ever thought these “haters” can possibly be more successful than Baylee and are just sharing the cold hard truth. I’m glad people aren’t afraid to share their opinions when it’s seen as “hater comments”

Where’s that Pepe pantsofshit commenter when you need them lol…

They got banned, but I'm sure they'll be back when she's lost some steam. To do anything right now when she's actively looking for "hate" comments would be a bit idk a waste of an extra account.
