No. 2615212

This thread is about Israelis, Jews, Judaism, and Hebrew (both language and the people).

Unlike the MENA thread this doesn't necessarily have to do anything with the middle east nor north Africa as there are Jews living outside of there like Ashkenazi Jews

Don't do race bait, and don't start attacking each other, and that's it, that's the main rules. Also it's allowed in here to speak in Hebrew, and maybe other Jewish languages but try to stick to English and Hebrew or other languages that are either associated with Jews (Aramaic, Yiddish, Ladino, גרוזינית (some dialect of Georgian forgot its name in English, I think it's called judeo Georgian)) or Israelis (Russian, Arabic, Amharic) rather than just random languages

Optional stuff to discuss:

>Jewish culture

>history of Jews, Israel, Israelis etc..
>life in Israel
>experiences with learning Hebrew

But you can add whichever idea you want

OP here, wanted to ask if anyone here remembers that child star in Israel that got caught doing hard drugs. He's definitely a cow but I don't know how to post about him in detail, my English isn't that good. If any nona remembers anything about him feel free to do a post about him, I just find him genuinely terrible person and he's deserving thread on here

Also does anyone remember spicycrap and his gf? Both of them deserve a thread on here but they been kinda forgotten in Israel since he has fallen down and deleted his channel

And about stuff unrelated to MENA region, anyone here knows Hebrew or just me? Or you know what, any Jewish language?

Shalom Nonna, I've been trying to learn Hebrew intermittently through duolingo and shul and my israeli friends. Unfortunately I always get the gender wrong and I end up sounding like a moid most of the time. I know a little yiddish from my grandparents but nothing special.I would really like to learn mountain jewish dialect though.

Hey nona, sorry to hear about your difficulties in Hebrew, but I would suggest using pealim.com

It's a site that allows you to inflect Hebrew words. It's avaliable in English, Hebrew, Russian and Spanish. There's also the Hebrew academy site but it's avaliable exclusively in Hebrew because the English version of the site is lackluster

Also what level are you in Hebrew? Like complete begginer? Understanding biblical Hebrew but struggling with modern? Struggling with (in)formality? You kinda understand just can't speak? If you can be more specific then I'll be able to give better advice

And I hope your journey of Hebrew goes well

And also here's one word in Hebrew to learn: אישה (isha). It means a woman but its plural is irregular

Also could you teach me some Yiddish? I really wanted to learn it

do secular Jews usually come to realize how backwards the rites and superstitions in (orthodox?) Judaism actually are? I ask this in the same way I would ask the post-Islam thread (which apparent got deleted?)
anyway I'm suspecting this thread might be begging for "racebait" by the way it's conflating Zionism with Judaism, most of whom wouldn't condone the actions of its current government (including those living there)

OP here, I'm not saying you have to be zionist. What I'm saying is that at bare minimum you will look through it in a way where you think twice before choosing an opinion because this conflict is genuinely complicated. Saying "kill all zionists" or "kill all Palestinians" are both retarded opinions. In my opinion, the right opinions about the conflict are the ones that look through the eyes of both sides since you can't get to peace without compromising amongst each other. I'll continue in the next comment because making long comments is really annoying on LC on mobile and also because this was the introduction of the introduction or just introduction not sure yet I'll see how long this will be

OP again here, so here are the facts:
1. Palestinians are very new namefor their group when it comes to usage about their specific group I think it's only started being a massive thing in the 60s but the name Palestine is old like really old and dates back to Provincia Syria Palaestina which is renamed land of Israel after some historical stuff happened (if you wanna know, research on the Internet about roman exile or destruction of second temple but all you gotta know is that Palestinians are new group, but Palestine isn't new concept and is name that was used as punishment against Jews by removing the name Israel from the land of Israel). But what you also gotta know is that this place controlled by the Romans is called after some group mentioned in the bible, they're called in Hebrew פלשתים (plishtim) which are arch enemies of the Jews and Israelites because goliat was Plishti and he fought against david so yeah you can see why Jews aren't keen to support Palestine (too new group, named is literally both a punishment and reminder to worst enemies). Now we get to their government, which is horrendous. Israeli government is incompetent but Palestinian government is very much awful and that's a nice way to put it. The Palestinian government, aka hamas, uses human shields, controls all sources of media, done October 7th and other tragic stuff but on a lesser scale, and worst of all has some of the worst human rights for women. Apart from that they rejected division plan and they're not willing to compromise on anything. They, hamas, started using zionist as dogwhistle for Jew, so basically they're always saying death to Jews by saying death to zionists. I want to continue my comment but honestly it drains my energy to write about this topic. If you want me to continue just tell me. And btw which is just surface level stuff like if there's any nonas that are experts here about it feel free to add to my stuff and yeah my English sucks ass I really need to improve it.

I’m not Jewish (so so sorry if asking this question is intruding on Jewish nonnas spaces!) and this is 101% not racebait, pls pls respond cordially! But a recent experience I had really bothered me that’s related to how Israel is perceived post oct23. I was visiting a museum recently which provided facts about medicinal herbs, and there was an exhibit about olives, olive plants and cultivation etc, and it mentioned Israel as being one of the areas olives originate from and is cultivated in. However, the name Israel get keyed over or however it was vandalized, and god that just ticked me off as such western stunning and brave slacktivism. There’s been a ton of demonization without consideration that Israel is a land and cultural force outside of conflict.

For Israeli nonnas, both living in the mainland and who immigrated to different countries, how have people reacted to your Israeli heritage post oct23? How do you wish Israeli culture was seen in this tumultuous political climate?

(And I’m restating that this question is NOT meant as racebait or flamewar fuel, please please be respectful. And also, I was wondering if in general, discussion of oct23 and the war is something to consider banning in this thread or not?)

This is a really obscure topic, but I'm part Moroccan and interested in the folklore. As you know in MENA folklore there are djinns, and like humans djinns can have any religion.
There are some esoteric groups in Morocco that hold ceremonies to invoke certain djinns who are believed to be good and help people (somewhat akin to how Catholics invoke saints). I've noticed that in videos of the ceremonies for some of the Jewish djinn, there will be non-kosher food (for example this video of a party for the genie Hammadi/David has shellfish), and I've seen a couple of videos of parties for Hammadi's daughter Maria that also have shellfish, and it will be on the same table that has a menorah or other Jewish artifacts. I can't find any information on why non-kosher food is offered, especially because I've heard that if you're making offerings to a Jewish djinn the food has to be kosher and the wine has to be Jewish made etc. Unfortunately Moroccans don't record shit so if you want to learn the folklore you have to talk to people who are into that side of things, but I haven't been able to find anyone who knows the reason behind this.
I know this is really out there, but if anyone has a Moroccan Jewish grandparent who knows about this stuff I would really love to find out the answer. Or anything about the Jewish genies because it's generally harder to find information about them.

maybe because casual racism isnt unique to jews, arabs have their fair share of racism towards jews and it's not like it'd be any different for a jewish person in an arab society/school.
plus the supposed "cult like devotion" to israel is actually just because any perceived problem people have with the country is later used to argue for it's dismantlement. people who criticize america don't call for it to be dismantled and for americans to go back to europe in the same breath, so israelis can be on the defensive about it sometimes. Israelis critize their own country all the time, you can do it without trying to paint all israelis as racist bigots.

American Jew here. I believe we can create peace if we kill all men.
Let's be real here. Its men who make all the religious/proxy wars.
If we kill and/or heavily oppress all males, no one will fight over little swaths of land because that shit is moidery

neh I find it stupid. Women in a modern country can decide and think for themselves. Look at >>>/ot/2615626 it's her decision to just blindly listen to this moid. I'm sorry but for women like that I can't have empathy.

I was raised Muslim (not religious though) and I would easily take a Jewish woman or any other type of woman over literally any man of any religion, ethnicity or nationality. Men are the root of all wars, crimes, and oppressed in the world. If Israel and Palestine were ruled by women this current situation would not be happening. It ain't about Arabs vs Jews, just men vs other men using religion/race as a veneer to chimp out.

>look how foolish this woman is
She wouldn't have this problem if we oppressed males properly. He would be publicly whipped and forced to wear the scold for a week for trying to speak to the supreme sex.

This was posted on the Palestine thread but it doesn't have anything to do with Palestine so I'm putting it here.
>The thing about Israelis is that they hate the historical reputation of the Jews as the world's punching bags. They call Holocaust survivors "sabon" (soap) because they see them as weak and are ashamed that their people were victimised. There should be no shame about being a victim of someone else's crimes, but that's just how it is. So they go way too hard on trying to be seen as strong to the extent they'll do what they're doing in Gaza now, shooting and bombing and starving civilians under a thin guise of rescuing hostages just because they can. They remind me of the hoteps in America, who are ashamed that their history is one of slavery, so they cling on to the fantasy that their ancestors were actually Pharoahs, even though the kidnapped West Africans have nothing to do Ancient Egyptians, it's just that Egypt is the only African civilization taught about in American schools so they latch onto it.
>The only difference in this insecure mentality is that Israel actually has power and they've gone mad with it, and hoteps only have conspiracy theories.

I'm not Jewish, but I'd like to ask if anyone has ever encountered cowish Jewish converts, because there was a local café called The Pink Peacock that's kind of notorious in Glasgow and was run by a wannabe Jewish convert.
>The owner was a rich trust fund non-binary TIF who went by Morgan/Moishe and claimed to be Jewish. But the truth is that she's not Jewish at all, she just had a Jewish FWB and thought that made her Jewish by extension.
>They made a big thing about being Scotland's only Yiddish café, but the Yiddish used on the storefront and menus was grammatically incorrect, plus nobody asked for it because very, very few people in Glasgow speak Yiddish, and the small Jewish community there speak English anyway.
>Complained about other local cafés gentrifying the area, even though nearly all the other cafés were there first and were owned by locals, while The Pink Peacock was run by rich kids from New York.
>Made a big deal out of being inclusive of minorities, but some minorities said they felt unwelcome because they weren't in the circle of artsy rich kids the owners were in. They also taunted the police into coming to the café by advertising the fact they sold universal handcuff keys, in an area with a high population of black and brown people.
>The food was supposedly in meagre portions and very mediocre. They had a stupid pay-what-you-can system that went all the way down to $0, so they weren't making much money on food either.
>They also had irregular opening times. The staff would just randomly open the café whenever they felt like it (apparently Morgan herself never got up before noon).
>There's a rumour that they put envelopes full of shit through the letterboxes of other local businesses. No idea if it's true but it's one of the most widespread things you hear when people talk about it.
>They shut down around two years ago and someone went on Reddit claiming they were forced to shut down because of antisemitism and queerphobia. Even though the real reason was their insane business plan.
>Morgan returned to New York and is planning to reopen the Pink Peacock there. She also said she's planning on learning Yiddish in New York.
I've never met a Jewish convert or wannabe convert irl, but online they all seem absent bonkers, same with Muslim converts online (I've met Muslim converts irl and all of them were people who converted just because their partners families expected them to, but they're not really cowish).
It's too bad because I think The Pink Peacock is a cute name.

>I've never met a Jewish convert irl but have met Muslim converts
This has a lot to do with the fact that Judaism is more exclusionary than inclusive. They don't just let anyone in. You have to extensively study the Torah and prove yourself to a Rabbi who will convert you. Christianity and Muslims will literally take anyone regardless of how much or little they know about the Bible or Quran.
I knew one Jewish convert growing up. She did it to marry and she was an intelligent woman so I can see her being able to memorize and recite what was needed to officially convert her. She was the only family that would do nightly prayer that I knew in my Jewish community lmao.

What should I get from the kosher deli in my city? I've never tried Jewish food. The Jewish community here is very small and this deli that recently opened is the only Jewish food place in the whole city. They have shawarma and hummus and all that but I've had that in Middle Eastern restaurants before, and generic sandwiches like tuna or egg salad. I'm more interested in the choices that are just Jewish. Which of these are good?
>Salt beef sandwich (choice of American mustard or Russian dressing, on rye, challah or a bagel)
>Sabbich pitta
>Chopped liver (on a challah sandwich or on its own)
>Potato latke
>Smoked salmon bagel
>Chicken schnitzel on challah
>Chopped chicken liver pate
>Chopped herring
>Chocolate rugelach

We are considering changing the OP image as well as some of the content in the OP. We are looking for an image that better represents global Jewish culture. If you have an idea for a good image to replace the op image with please post it below.

We want this thread to be a place where you can discuss life as a Jewish person, traditions/food/culture specific issues without there being any discussion about the already banned topic of the Israel/Palestine conflict or about politics/zionism as those topics invaribly lead to /pol/sperging and infighting. We planning to change the OP to reflect this.

There's a lowkey German lolcow who runs whitedate.net (Liv Heide) who was once dating a Jewish guy. She talked about being in their synagogue and at family gatherings and all the Jewish people there (apparently) acting as if she was superior to her. She must've been a lolcow during this time too, because her own retrospective articles have her bringing up pro-white politics around her jewish in-laws and picking fights.

Anyways, she had a messy break up and then proceeded to launch a white only dating site (which she had to contract indians to build), rageposted about her ex-jewish boyfriend in multiple white nationalist, anti-jewish journals, and called for the revenge against the jewish people for their crimes.

I've heard Reform Judaism in the United States is basically so every Jewish woman and her goy husband can feel welcome, and that the Israeli jews just don't get reform judaism at all. It's like "why bother, you can be secular and jewish". It's got to the point where most American jewish conversions aren't recognized by Orthodox Israeli rabbis and the whole "hard to convert" thing doesn't really apply in the States, as far as I know many don't even require circumcision. From an outsider perspective, it looks like Reform Judaism has hard been influenced by Christianity, especially in regards to total openness and universalism, they even ape the stained glass cathedral style for their larger synagogues.

I live in a country with a minimal amount of jews, but every forth family has some grandpa or great uncle that goes on about how they're jewish. This confuses a lot of kids so they go to school saying "Oh I'm part jewish", only to find out as adults their family tree goes back to Britain and nowhere else. Turns out there was a massive religious trend here 100 years ago with British people pretending they were the actual Israelites based on some interpretation of the bible, and we grew up with the residual result of that with on-the-deathbed grandmas insisting we never forget we're the real jews. I always wonder if Israelites have to deal with dumbass evangelicals going to their country and insisting that they're the actual jews.

(Mods are welcome to delete this post if they find it too racebaity)
