My unpopular opinion is that it's not true that everyone wants to live in a high-trust society. Tons of people want the benefits of one, but not to live in it (i.e. engage in high-trust behaviors and hold any sort of consideration for those around them). If you were taught to care for your surroundings (or at least to have a healthy sense of shame and self-awareness), you wouldn't think this way, but a lot of people aren't and don't. This is also what happens when people aren't taught to actually respect specific values or believe they're how things "ought" to be done, but to fear repercussions from other people. It's the same logic behind why beating your kids instead of actually teaching them right from wrong and getting them to internalize that just makes them sneakier, resentful and more anti-social instead of turning them into decent people (and why every time a culture or religion runs the child-beating circuit, it turns out shittier). I believe that there are going to be even more people like this born in every country in the near future, their parents will teach them to be like that (sometimes to survive, sometimes just because they're dipshits), and they're going to shit everything up.
