As always, report and ignore bait.

ITT: Discuss the controversies and disagreements between fujoshi, yumejoshi, and himejoshi. Note: yumes and self-shipping aren't necessarily the same thing. Slashers and fujos also aren't exactly the same, though they heavily overlap.

Topics include:
>Whether there is a causal relationship between consumption of yaoi/slash and trooning out
>Voyeurism vs. self-insertion
>Yaoi men vs. bara men vs. 3DPD gay moids
>Does the fiction a person consumes need to comport with their real-life ideology and politics
>Female creators' portrayal of male-male sex/romance vs. male creators' portrayal of female/female sex/romance
>Do women read yaoi or slash as an "escape" from misogyny IRL
>Can women be "porn addicts" and/or why are women held to higher standards of moral purity than men
>Whether (or why) lesbians can/cannot be fujoshi
>No True Fujoshi (i.e., does enjoying "straight-with-extra-steps" shit like A/B/O, Mpreg, cuntboy, etc. make someone "less" of a fujoshi)
>General moralfaggotry

even though western artists have bad art and book cover trends I feel like their writers and writing itself are not that different than asian ones. For novels it’s best to look for recs on places like the m/m romance goodreads group and m/m romance books reddit where there are mostly adult women. it’s easy enough to avoid things you don’t like because goodreads users love to tag everything. authors I hear about the most are KJ Charles and Cat Sebastian (I have not read any of their works yet so idk) And I’ve been meaning to read Alice Winn’s In Memoriam sometime too.

Do fujofags ITT prefer original works or fanfiction?
I can digest either honestly. I usually prefer content for my ships but some people have such appaulijg tastes that i'd be better off reading a non-consequential oneshot doujin

i prefer a mixture of both especially if said original work is featured in the fanfic like on ao3

When it comes to Japanese stuff, I prefer original manga to djs. But as far as Western m/m goes, I prefer fanfic, because as you can see from what >>2583370 posted, Westerners have shockingly shit taste when it comes to art styles, because they prioritize being ~yooneek~ over being aesthetically pleasing. Thankfully, if it's a fic, you don't have to see a shitty art style. That said, there are exceptions: I'm surprised no one brought up Teahouse yet. Into the Smoke has a decent art style, too. Check Please has a somewhat ugly art style, but the good writing makes up for it. Starfighter is hot if you can put up with the lore making no sense kek. Ride or Die has an art style that reminds me a little bit of Motorcity. But yeah the pickings are pretty slim when it comes to Western comics, almost everything is either badly drawn or full of gender nonsense. Or it's capeshit: if you're alright with cape slop, Midnighter and Apollo is good because it can be read stand-alone, as opposed to anything with Wiccan and Hulking which requires a bunch of background reading to understand what the hell is going on.

Reading wise (like with words only) I prefer fanfic because I'm reading about something I'm familiar with so it's easier to get immersed in it and it won't bore me to death hopefully. But manga and anime wise I do prefer original stuff because it feels like starting a new thing from scratch and it's exciting to get to know the franchise, story and characters. Doujins aren't bad but they're usually a bit too short for my liking and leave a lot to desire or too OOC and I just skip the dialog and look at the smut since they rush the way they get there anyways. I want a DJ that's like a fanfiction in story telling but with art that resembles the original franchise and is like multiple chapters but that's probably hard to make. So I just look at fan art instead lol. I'll say I get more invested in non-canon ships from things I watch because of the story being complex and long and them having great dynamics, so seeing fan work with them as a ship is pretty exciting. While original yaoi is the same boring settings and dynamics over and over again it's hard to get into it anymore. It's always
>school setting
>band setting
>office setting
>CEO and some poorfag setting
>bully and victim setting
And so on. Banana Fish and Yuri on Ice had the right idea with an actual story happening around the ship and pushing them together, but the former chickened out on showing it and the latter wasn't as passionate as I'd like. I'm lame and I want a shounen slop tier yaoi story. That story about some kid who died in summer that was trending a while ago had potential but also chickened out. Tokyo Ghoul was rumored to originally be a yaoi but the writer chickened out and I can totally see it, it would've been better as a yaoi. No. 6 was cool but they separated at the end unfortunately. Zanyou no Terror had yaoi bait in it and it could've worked tbh but again they chickened out. Hell even Jojo chickens out on that and all the gay couples are side characters who die and we don't get enough of them to invest in them. I need my sense of grandeur in my ships PLEASE.

Both. It's easier for me to get invested in works that don't revolve around romance and have a greater plot. So fanfiction is great, but I also want to get spoiled with explicit pandering sometimes. I like VNs and one-shots and BL manga that revolve around a plot. It's like reading fluff after angst or enjoying something sweet after eating something savory, it's best to rotate between original works and fanfiction.

You gotta use the original works in order to make the yaoi more believable. I want my 2D moids fucking while in character, you feel me?

No. 2585565

Yaoi is not representative of actual gay men, and this is a good thing.

No. 2585574

I grew out of yaoi but I'm not sure why. I read so much of it as a teen and in my early twenties. I try to chase that same yaoi dopamine high but I find myself annoyed by all the porn and just swiping through sex scenes to skip them, which just makes it boring in turn. So I dont even try to read yaoi anymore. I wish I could go back to pure yaoi brainrot tbh. Fujoshis have it good.

I think because when we were younger the novelty and taboo of it being porny was exciting, now we're older and know better and want actual stories and writing before the sex but nope, they sex from the first page. Vidrel.

MLM is such a retarded term, and ironically it's rare to see actual gay men using it. The term only exists because the phrase "same-sex relationships" displeased troons.

I like both BL and het romance too, and have the same issue of finding many to be poorly written or featuring annoying tropes. However, cringe tropes in BL (yaoi logic and edgy rape shit) tend to make me less mad than the cringe tropes in het (mostly rooted in misogyny and remind me of bad shit I actually face in RL). It also helps that I started reading BL as an adult and am very good at filtering out garbage writing from summary alone.

I saw the same post and also how the OP went out of their way to change the article title kek.

I think it's ironic that the article ended up on childfree, because the more the CPC attempts to punish and prevent women from having any sort of escape from the Heterosexual Nuclear Family, the more I think voluntarily sterilization will rise, even if women have to go aboard to get the procedure.

The BBC author has A+ tastes in ships, though.
