Hairstylists don't take care of their bodies and don’t want to kneel down on the floor for the haircut, and it’s impossible to accurately cut really long hair while sitting in a chair. I assume that’s where accidental chops come from, anyway. I think a lot of stylists (male and female) also assume they know better than their client, so if someone comes in with 6 inches of split ends the stylist is going to take 6 inches without permission because they know it’s going to look wayyyy better than just dusting the wispy shitty ends. I don't know why but your post reminded me of a reality tv show in my country about people asking the stylists from the show to change someone's style. One of the women whose friend or relative asked for her to change her style had very, very long hair like way past her butt. She took care of it but didn't style it so she had typical straight horse girl hair and a basic practical fashion sense, just wearing jeans and a hoodie her size and the hairdresser was acting like she was mentally ill for being too busy to see a hairdresser in 10 years because of her kids and her job.
