Or how Gamers are now crying forced diversity anytime a black person is so much as a side character in a videogame even in games that previously featured black people like GTA. Now they're saying the OC of South of Midnight is forced diversity because a game set in Louisiana has a black woman as the protagonist. You're damn if you do and damned if you don't.
And no I don't think most anime/asians do black characters when they're specifically unambiguously made to be black. Maybe the ambigious brown ones they do, but the track record for black characters is questionable at times.

>>1958381My opinion isn't important at all, but I never really cared about westerners' opinions about black people in anime. Japan is a very Japanese-focused society. They don't really do foreigners, like how western societies do. In Western shows, you'll see characters of any kind of race in almost any show. Japan is going to have their characters be asian, specifically Japanese or Japanese-based 90% of the time. It's just the way it is, and I don't think it should be
expected of the Japanese to always make non-Japanese characters either. That's what makes it a treat (IMO) when an anime features a nicely-designed, and well-written character that's black. The writers/artists
did not have to, but they chose to and did it well.

ChatGPT and it's other 100 clones are just chatbots rebranded as "AI", which also been a thing for ages. And ChatGPT doesn't even come up with anything original, it just rehashes google results. The kind of AI that we're being promised is super AI which hasn't been discovered or reached afaik. All we have currently is the basic level of AI, and maybe general AI but I'm not 100% sure. I could be wrong about this though, but of what I've seen of AI, especially in the tech field since I'm a software engineering major, it sucks balls and isn't good enough yet. Only actual retards rely on it and think it works. And I've seen lots of skepticism towards it and hostility, so I doubt it would get implemented for now. I admit I enjoy the image generators machine learning models (bing Dall-e and the such), but the images made by them are easy to recognize for a reason, it isn't good enough yet. It still fucks up basic things and doesn't always understands the prompts. I doubt a tech this stupid could overtake jobs for now. I acknowledge that there's probably private AI that might be more advanced, but if so, we're not really seeing how is it being used or even know if it is.

>>1958947AI is going to take over every intellectual office-type job and artistic creative job, that's for sure. But those jobs have only been mainstream for a very small amount of time in human history. In 1910 90 of the population was employed in agriculture. With automation of agriculture, the majority of the educated population moved to office jobs. Now with the automation of intellectual work they will just move again, to the next field, a.k.a. trade jobs and serviceslop. AI isn't going to fix your sink or cook you a burger any time soon. A form of this is already happening right now with higher educated people unable to find qualified jobs and having to work in food or retail or as delivery drivers (another field AI isn't doing any time soon).
We better start all learning how to flip burgers.

want their workers to be replaced by robots so that they can cut down on labor losses OR edgy nihilistic blackpiller NEETs celebrating that soon everyone else will be obsolete just like them. AI is a tool, not a professional. Automation has cost people jobs in the past, but only for tasks that are menial, often dangerous and thus better off being automated. You know what has actually cost people their jobs? Offshoring. Factories didn't disappear because of automation, they disappeared because greedy companies wanted cheaper labor and transferred them over to China as they could offer workforce made of practically slaves with no concern for human rights. Of course the dreamy situation for cryptoCEOs detached from reality would be that everything would be done by robots and they wouldn't have to pay a dime but those same people are doing kooky shit like building luxury underground doomsday bunkers in case the nuclear war starts tomorrow and buying an overpriced social media site for $44 billion during a mantrum episode.
No. 1959018
>>1959004>Automation has cost people jobs in the past, but only for tasks that are menial, often dangerous and thus better off being automatedI've subscribed to this belief before and I can see it when it comes to assembly line factory work (which is just not designed for the human body) but can you honestly say that creative and intellectual jobs are menial and better off being automated? Is creating a story, writing an essay, drawing a picture and animating a video menial and dangerous tasks?
The problem is, they can be if the people doing them are doing it under slave-like overworking and crunch conditions, which they usually are. That was the entire point of assembly line factory work in the west before labour laws were developed (and is still the case in the countries where these same non-automated factories are operating as of right now). The problem isn't the task itself that is menial and dangerous, but the lack of fair labour practices and protections. It's been well known that even working 8 hours a day for 5 days a week is unhealthy and inefficient, even with the most desk-sitting, boring and repetitive jobs that do deserve to be automated. If labour laws aren't globally improved (and that includes the west) then AI is just going to push people into overworking and injuring themselves in other industries, be they menial jobs or not.
No. 1959030
>>1959018What I mean by "menial" is stuff like proofreading, formatting, cleaning up linework etc. Things that only act as speedbumps on the road to creating things and are easy to automate. Not the entire creative process. It's dangerous when you're for example writing code for a critical system and it goes down upon release because you made a human error - an automated AI-powered test would've caught it for you. Or maybe you got the wrong doze of medicine in health care. There are numerous things that can and should be automated to make the work
better, less tedious and more organized for humans, allowing them to focus on concepts and decision making.
>If labour laws aren't globally improved (and that includes the west) then AI is just going to push people into overworking and injuring themselves in other industries, be they menial jobs or not. That's the real issue here, AI isn't going to replace workers anywhere but workers are going to be expected to perform with even more unrealistic results now that "AI does the job for them". The endless exponential growth that capitalism and the corporatocracy demands isn't sustainable, we could have 4-day workweeks with the same pay that we get now and it would not cause noticeable loss to the stakeholders yet we can't because no matter how many jobs are automated it still won't benefit the workers in any way.

>>1959030>There are numerous things that can and should be automated to make the work better, less tedious and more organized for humans, allowing them to focus on concepts and decision making. There definitely are, but that's not what generative AI is striving to do nor doing. Generative AI and the way it's being used by corporations is replacing skilled creative - a.k.a.
generative work. There already are AI tools that help artists clean up lines, ink faster, choosing colours digitally without having to mix pigment, etc. etc., for instance. Those tools are already being used and they are still being developed and improved upon, which is a great thing. But generative AI isn't the one doing that. Generative AI isn't being used to help artists improve the so-called tedious tasks of the creative process, it's being used to replace the creative process of the artist. So while I agree AI isn't going to put
everyone out of a job, it's definitely going to put some people out of jobs who were not already doing tedious, boring and menial jobs before. And that's something we will just have to accept because at the end of the day, making money is what matters, be it for companies employing artists than for artists themselves, and nobody is going back to farming land back bent with a hoe in hand when everyone else has automated their system and can do it 1000x faster and cheaper than you.

This was because marketing was deregulated in the 80s during the Reagan era which lead to advertising to children becoming legal. It doesn't mean they didn't have good writing every now and then but GI Joe, Transformers and He-man were completely meant to sell action figures, My Little Pony was Hasbro's marketing ploy, TMNT was literally gentrified from the original edgy comics to sell toys to kids, Care Bears needs no mention and so forth. What are some examples of fandoms that have emerged for series that objectively weren't successful? The new TMNT series "Rise of the TMNT" stands out as the most obvious case. Objectively speaking it was the least successful among all the turtle series, It changed toi much for old fans and kids found it too weird, but it managed to attract a strong wokie fanbase mainly because the creators continued to cater to them but the ratings still remained low and the series ended abruptly after two seasons. Despite this it gained a peculiar audience of fujos and wokies who make it seem like it was a lot more bankable then it was. This just goes to show that online discussions and even fandoms in general don't always translate to real life success.

I'm not sure if this belongs here but I believe it's related to fandom. This is the event marked the decline of rock music in Korea, a country that once had a thriving rock and punk scene, I had known about korean punk long before K-pop. This event was at a live public music television program that featured indie punk bands, towards the end of the show two punk musicians from the band Rux, stripped naked and started jumping around, which was the most extreme and well-known incident, others wore shirts with Imperial Japanese and Nazi symbols, It was the most offensive things that could be seen in korean society. This event sparked a huge controversy, leading many korean music stations to stop featuring rock music due to these associations. It truly demonstrates how certain events can change basically everything and how much music tastes can be suppressed or molded by what networks decide is worth broadcasting. [NSFW spoiler]

Another incest ship drama going on is that the creator of the webtoon "The guy upstairs" is quitting because of people shipping the female protagonist and the sadistic killer antagonist despite them apparently being siblings. This is something that I've thought about as an artist writing an original project of my own because the moment you release your creation to the audience you can't decide how they will view the relationships between the characters or interpret the story. And I think that's fair, I have my own ships and I would probably be heartbroken if the creator threw a public tantrum about how much they hate it to the point they quit the entire comic. But as a creator I also can't deny that I would be endlessly annoyed if a ship I really, really hated personally became so popular to the point it would drain me of all of my motivation to continue the story. It's a tricky situation to imagine yourself to be in and what would be the most appropriate reaction, I guess it's just best for creators to avoid any interaction with the fandom to prevent being poisoned by their own creation.

The popularity of BL is due to it connecting all sorts of women together regardless of their sexuality as it allows them to explore a world through characters that have endless opportunities but have the emotional intelligence and inner world of women due to being written by them, all without involvement from real life scrotes. Men absolutely hate BL and want it gone, so how exactly is it enforcing the patriarchy? These people make no sense and they're so bold about their ignorance too.
What I find particularly curious is that they also often
love het content and regularly spam their feed with it but scream at fujos for "centering men and the patriarchy" because their ships don't involve female characters. It seems to me like the pipeline goes from "teenage fujoomer -> pornsick yurifag -> hetshit enthusiast (with a boyfriend)". The same thing happened back in the 00's so it's practically a tale as old as time. And like many others in those twitter threads have repeated, as someone who creates original f/f material I can say that these motherfuckers are never interested in supporting it and always treat the creators like shit. Especially when they claim to be femslash fans and ship nothing more than Genshit or gacha ships, and otherwise only consume content that revolves around males. Maybe you don't like "yuri" as much as you claim to? Maybe you're using it to virtue signal?
There's also such a marked difference between a "wlw sapphic cottagecore cute girls make me nervous!" poser versus a "I like pussy" truther. Stuff like picrel is touted as GREAT wuluhwu rep but it's completely toothless. Some were side characters and some were main characters, but on other hand I can only think of one actual gay man in the entire property and one of the stranges things about the fandom was that there were very few male slash shippers and TIMss. You would think that with a series featuring muscular men fighting each other, would attract a huge number of fujos, and I'm sure some existed, but they were really minor in the fandom and there were basically zero TIMs as well, again I'm sure some existed but I never came across any. >>1964012I think people are also missing that shippers gravitate towards specific tropes. It's ironic, but canon, emotionally uncomplicated, reciprocated romance tends to bore shippers because they thrive on drama and conflict. If there's no emotional complication within the relationship (only external factors keep them apart), then fandom is much less likely to go nuts over it. Mizisua could have been more interesting if they'd hammered home the idea that Sua sacrificed herself to make herself "immortal" to Mizi (in a selfish, possessive way, which Ivan criticized her for), people would probably be more invested.
>>1964020The woobification of Madohomu has been so evil. I don't understand why people even want them to be boring and safe considering the yuri landscape has been dominated by CGDCT-style high school fluff for ages. I can't really think of many ships that have a similar dynamic that is explored in as much depth, especially not within the F/F realm. Something like Utenanthy has some overlap in terms of unhealthy devotion, but it doesn't quite fit the same tropes.

Even here, a women site, sexualizing a woman is eww yucky but every other thread is cooming over the blandest moids possible or sperging about yaoi. Lesbian nonnas are a tiny minority.
If you check a male dominated fandom, you're going to see the same concept but in reverse. Men are visual coomers and don't write fanfiction, but the fanart tags must look something like this but with yuri instead of yaoi. It's not that deep.

Kinda goes hand in hand with, for example, writing any male character as a generic possessive dom, regardless of canon personality.
Not saying people writing or reading kinky smut is bad or anything either btw, rather I am but a simple autist who has trouble buying that 95% of these characters would be into some of this stuff or behave the way they're portrayed, which ruins it for me kek

I am not very much into shonenshit but shippers that like Hinata, Historia, Orihime, etc would shit on shippers that like Sakura, Mikasa, Rukia, and vice-versa. Even though these characters aren't in conflict for the MC's dick and are friendly with each other. Many otome isekai manhwa/shojosei manga also have a designated, cartoonishly evil female character that exists only to serve as the author's punching bag. So maybe it's just me but I find it strange that this discussion about misogyny is only centred around fujos.

>>1964337Because no one cares about hets. Het women can write f/m because they experiences that so you can't say it's fetishizing an identity, but m/m is pure fantasy. And it is true that in a lot of fandom spaces m/m is the most popular, so that becomes the primary target. At the same time a lot of het fujos say they are bi or lesbian to defend themselves from fetishization allegations which leads to this weird situation where you'd expect more f/f content but don't get it because no one is actually attracted to women kek
>>1964046I don't think that's completely true. Even with gachashit mixed ones like Limbus Company had a substantial amount of women who enjoyed the female characters because they were written the same as the men (at least they were liked before the studio turned out to be deeply misogynistic irl). Their designs weren't sexualized, they had strong personalities and important roles and it lead to a lot of f/f shipping because there was something to work with. In cases where fujos obsess over two bland side characters it's usually just because they are attractive, that's it. I don't know why himes don't develop similarly silly obsessions though.

Yeah, it sounds stupid, but I wonder if I'm not alone in this lmao.
Anyewy, I think this is also part of why the slash fandom is so big. For every fujo TIF there are just as many regular basic bitch straight fujos AND yumes who aren't misogynists but are simply left embarrassed or uncomfortable by sexualizing female characters in ways that aren't lingerie catalogues… because they're straight.
This kind of repulsion is completely expected of straight and gay men in fandom but women online have been like brainwashed into repressing their natural-born shame, repulsion, embarrassment, you name it, towards seeing their own sex/the sex they're not attracted to in the kind of lewd and embarrassing situations you see in porn.
Tangentially related, lesbians in fandom are expected to love dick so they're not free from this shit either.

Seems like people nowadays have an issue with just being creative/free enough to just write whatever they want whether it goes against canon or not.

The only ‘problem’ here is a fundamental misunderstanding yuri fans have, one which they don’t even realise that they
have. Straight women like and admire other women, (of course), but are exclusively attracted to men. However, lesbians both like women and are attracted to them. Hence, yuri fans can’t even comprehend the fact that there’s a distinction between liking a character in a platonic way and wanting to fuck them, because they’re always gorging on soft core lesbian bait media even when they’re not explicitly horny. To them, it’s just background noise. That distinction between liking a certain gender and wanting to fuck a different gender simply doesn’t exist in their brains.
That’s why, when straight women say that they LIKE female centric media but that they consume more male centric media (yaoi) because they want to fuck men, the yuri brain cannot even begin to comprehend it— who, what, how, or, most crucially, why…? Surely, the yuri brain supposes, if you don’t enjoy watching women hugging, kissing, and having sex, then you must not like women at all! How can you like women if you don’t want to fuck them too?! Hence the misogyny accusations, the lesbophobia accusations, the self-hating misogynist accusations. All a load of bull crap stemming from this one core misunderstanding between two different sides of female fandom.
So, no,

Sometimes obvious ships or canon pairings breed the most paint-by-numbers content, but I guess that's part of the appeal to some of their fans, they're not really looking for something uniquely interesting and specific to those characters, but a vehicle for their broader interests (I know it could be argued all shipping is this, but imo this stuff often feels like it's less about being a fan of something and exploring that and more just reskinning popular romance tropes)

>>1965343>Her character got shortchanged because she had to be the precious mommy madonna at 14God, I definitely don't like that Katara was written to be so freaking vanilla most of the time. Especially with that little whiny phase where Katara was bummed about not being as fun as the others. Even though her origin explains why she's all motherly and empathetic, I wish they spent more time letting her be something other than this preachy, love interest/role-model for Aang. Like I mentioned before, they could've made her go through an arc where she's forced to use bloodbending in order to stop an ally from dying, and realizes that bloodbending isn't inherently evil, and can be used for good. This could make her view not just bloodbending but also life through a more nuanced perspective, and make her realize that she shouldn't have to be this clean role-model and substitute mother all the time. She learns to be more of her natural self instead of what she thought her mother would have wanted, just like a realization that she'll have to bloodbend at times instead of only using pure water. She can stay mature and give helpful talks, and remain empathetic, but she won't feel like she owes anyone her
worship or needs anyone's validation.
I don't know. I tried, I really did.

A majority of the time when the mcs fight they use their wits to outsmart the "stupid" villains, and both azula and the fire lord are left alive at the end.
The bloodbending thing was never going to be properly incorporated into the story let's be honest. Plus, the old woman also had a traumatic experience but is depicted as the ultimate evil in the blood bending episode. It would've been far more realistic to make her have like ptsd, and either be afraid or angry and lashing out at the fire nation people but instead she's just depicted as evil and hateful. Meanwhile the guy who killed kataras mother was depicted as pitiful and pathetic so that you didn't want him to die.
Also thinking back I can completely understand why people paired katara so heavily with zuko, she fits way better with him than aang. But the showrunners didn't want her to end up with zuko bc he would be a bad influence so she gets aang while he gets emo mei.

Fangirls will always ignore well written female characters anyway or find any way to tear then apart. Unless a show is devoid of a male that they can latch onto or indulge in BL fantasies
Istg if SU had another human male or even a “male” gem and had Greg looked better fans would have ignored the entirety of any gem related plot (so the whole show) and shipped them together and I guarantee that anons here would defend it somehow because “uhhh the male gem is so cool we just need to now why male” or some bs.

(Shit, some women love even the most basic shonenshit female characters and they'll be the ones making most of the cute and non-lewd fanart of them)
It's especially obvious when you go to fandoms where female characters have major roles in the story of their manga/game/whatever.
Case in study, Splatoon. I've seen so many female fans of all the idols and basically all proper shippers of Pearlina and Shiver/Frye are women who obsess over them like they would yaoi pairings.

The fact that her character goes through so much growth, especially rebelling against her misogynistic culture, just for her to end up exactly where they wanted her. Healing, darning aang’s socks and being sad about his fangirls was such a betrayal to little me and i wasn’t going to be condescended to by some self inserting scrote about what i should like romantically. Nowadays i would ship katara with no one (maybe some space and time for herself), but the zutara thing was 100% a rejection of the wifemom thing. Enough.

It's clear that they are in love with each other, but in their round they sang and the loser was killed without any resistanceYou don’t have to limit it to those confines. It’s still a fictional story with people deciding how the characters act and who gets to kiss. There are ways to think of a kiss scene. Have them kiss in secret at the garden, or in a scene before the competition. Or have them slowly lean in and kiss in the last moments of their duet(which sounds like a rehash of ivantill, but the difference is mizisua’s would be mutual and happy, before the shock of sua’s death) instead of just having them smiling at each other sweating.
There is no reason why it should make more sense to you for ivantill to make out, while the girls who are mutually in love, singing a loving duet to keep each other alive, and know they may or may not make it out alive, never kiss.

I ask myself this because everyone says it's a masterpiece and I personally love it, it stays consistent and doesn't feel like the author or editors forced it to be longer than it should be just for money, but some series I like are closer to being trainwrecks too. JJK is ok for what it is, if you want to see cool fight scenes but the shonen jump stopped being innovative long ago, it's obvious this one was inspired by a bunch of specific other series. JJBA is pretty good especially if you don't gaf about teenage protagonists, school settings and dumb tournaments, I need to reread it someday. I really like Gintama but never finished the manga or the anime so I have no idea if it stays good or if it becomes trash like so many series at the end. YYH is good but I watched the anime in middle school when I was the target audience. I recommend it to anyone who likes HXH.
Speaking of which, there are many manga in hiatus with a good reputation but I wonder if people would still care about Nana or X1999 if they were over. I feel like the endless hiatus contributes to these series' good reputation but it's hard to explain.

It’s just so much more interesting and narratively complexI wanted to write a fanfic about Katara talking to Zuko about her conflicted feelings on bloodbending because on one hand she enjoys the connection to her culture and can empathize with Hama but on the other hand it makes her feel like a monster. Zuko relays some Iroh advice about how bending isn't good or bad, it just is. He then tells her that he knows how she views firebending as dangerous and destructive but she tells him that through knowing him and Iroh, there are other uses. He tells her that her bloodbending can never be evil because she's one of the most compassionate people that he knows. Then they bond over their bending and stuff.

>>1966523>>1966578I have said it before and I'll say it again, both fandom and troonism have convinced me that sexuality is innate and cannot be changed. A straight man or woman will always be straight, and whatever same-sex media they try to create, whether it's m/m or f/f, it will always carry those lingering traits of their inherent straightness. Even the pseudo-bisexuality developed between men and women is different from each other.

>>1966236>This guy would lose his mind if he knew how many HSTS type trannies still call themselves gayboys and use Grindr.AGP/AAPs and homosexual trannies hate each other. I used to know a MTF who slept with gay men and I know multiple lesbians who date or are attracted to FTMs. Transbians and gaydens are mad that HSTS are sleeping with gay people of their sex and not them. The last time I saw a FTM into yuri was on Deviantart over 15 years ago, so I don't even know where this claim that "men" (female troons) are taking over F/F spaces is coming from. Even real life non-fandom lesbian/"WLW" spaces accommodate bio-males.
>>1966236Every FTM/TIF I knew identified as a "gay man" until I joined
terf spaces in 2019 and found out about the FTM lesbian thing from detransitioners. I see more "nb lesbians" than self-identified "male lesbians", and even then that's literally what transbian AGPs are?

>>1966587 my posts wasn't exclusively about fujos, just that sexuality is something very much beyond our control, even the most porn brained pseduo-bisexual will still act accordingly to their actual sexuality. So when straight men or TIMs write "sapphic romancess" it's basically a porn-induced fantasy of foreplay, this extends to straight women as well, now we all know this happens with male slash which just recreates heterosexuality. But this also happens with femslash, If you go through any sort of AO3 fic of a popular female ship, you'll see that it's just a heterosexual relationship where one character has a magical penis or a super scientific strap-on that is also functionally a penis. It's not re-creating heterosexuality or applying heterosexual dynamics, it's just heterosexuality.
