Merry Christmas to all of you! I'm drunk, spending my time away from the people I hate and I enjoy not having drama over the holidays. Hope you all have some peaceful days, too.
>>1827400Things bought on impulse are often the things I love the most, so enjoy your minnie mouse wallet when it arrives and have another drink for having a husband that is doing his duty keeping the baby save, kek.

My lazy ass sister decided not to do her part with cleaning the kitchen after my mom made pies and cakes for friends and family this Christmas Eve. So I'm gonna have to step up and do extra chores. Since it's almost the end of the year, I guess I'll relax my nerves with one last good high session with my remaining THC gummy bears before I go 2024 weedless. Ho ho ho to the cokehead anon, hope you have a nice, "white" Christmas without having to give head for the "snow".

>>1827897I'm from a non Christian European family with North African Roots, when I used to celebrate Christmas with my family, my Muslim grandmother included, there was also too much focus on the gifts, especially for children under 8 yo. And unfortunately for me, my father had seven siblings, I have 10 cousins (5 older, 5 younger) on that side with whom we celebrated Christmas. We never celebrated Christmas with my mom's side of the family so I don't have another reference.
From middle school onwards we got cheap gifts you'd rather throw away. I kid you not, one of my aunts who would watch over me when I was a kid gifted me earrings when I don't have my ears pierced…
I had to trade with one of my sisters' gifts who got a keychain.
The only thing I was looking forward was the food whenever we'd celebrate because the other aunt that hosted us did make a literal effort to make it nice. But the rest was consoomerism galore.

>>1828087Yeah I'll be honest my husband kinda dropped the ball this year. He got me a cute calander of our cats which was good, then some hats for the cats which is a bit like hmm okay, then a drawing book he said we can both make time once a week to sit down and learn to draw together.
Which is nice yeah but that's more of a joint gift lol.
So basically I got a cat calander for our apartment as my Christmas gift lol.

It’s 3. People don’t come until 6. We are going to a family members at 4 then back to the house about 5:30. Isn’t stopping my step mom from the pre family gathering clean

Was dreading it because depression makes it so hard for me to fake joy about any festivities yet I did fairly ok in that regard.
But my dad totally ruined christmas eve for my family.
He hates christmas and if he feels any emotion, we all must be reminded of it every minute. He spent the entire 24th drinking with his friends, very likely in a good mood, but when he came home for dinner and later gift-giving he was pissed. Hardly said a single word for hours while the rest of us tried to act joyous and start conversations. Made me feel like he didn't want my siblings and I to come home or that he dislikes that my mom bought us many presents. Christmas is really important for her and she always tries so hard (also for me). If I was her, I would question whether my husband really loves me, because that was so cruel…
Why we didn't call him out on his behavior? Impossible, it would make everything worse, you can't talk with him like a normal adult, he would just start gaslighting "uwu i always do everything wrong, i should just go away and die!"
It was the same on my birthday. My siblings are also often lacking the eq to not further provoke him, it feels like all the emotional labour is on my mom and I as oldest daughter.

>>1828442>"uwu i always do everything wrong, i should just go away and die!" Is your father my mother? I can't count the amount of times my mother pulled that shit. What is your father's problem? You and your mother seem like nice people, can't he just act normal for one day? I've spend many christmas eves like you did, had many dramatic "talks" with my parents (especially my mother in my case) and it never changed. Your mother and you need to stop doing that emotional labour, your father has some real problems and if he can't solve them or act at least some days a year like everything is "normal", it's not your responsibility to keep the peace. Having to deal with depression and then also with a family member like that on a day where everyone expects you to be happy is hell, I know that, I've done that way too many years. I don't know how old you are, but the best thing I can think about would be to write it all down and hand it to your parents. Tell them how you felt and that you don't want to have another christmas memory like that ever again and if your father can't change that it's not your fault, because he is the older one, he should be an example and care for the family, not you. I hope you still had some pleasant moments and aren't feeling too down, it wasn't your fault and you did all you could while being depressed.

My grandfather is like this too. Pretty pathetic, its not even a rival love interest, you're literally half him too.

Christmas celebrations are always underwhelming in my family because they didn't grow up with it, so we usually don't do much of anything, but I'm at peace with it and I should be grateful that it also means low stress. My grandma wanted to participate but thought gifts were supposed to be given out Dec 30 and was mortified to find out that she was late kek
then straight up handed me $452.70 in cash as a gift>>1828558I watched the live action one spontaneously since we happened to have it on our TV and I felt like it kinda lacked a certain charm. Some of the costume and set design are fun to see translated into real life but yeah there's a lot that looks ugly. The random romantic subplot was so weird and unnecessary too imo.
I don't think I've seen the newer animated one, just the old 2D one.
