For me it's just a flavor thing, I think olive oil and butter complement each other well. Butter just adds a creaminess to veggies that oil just can't do. I've heard that it aids in allowing you to cook at a higher heat then you normally would if just using butter. Which is cool for me since I'm usually tired when I get off work and normally just want to whip up something fast.

I would suggest maybe trying another shop? Or mochi donuts just might not be your thing. I find them pleasantly chewy and soft, there's a bit of a bounce to them. Not as chewy as straight up mochi but much more chew than a donut from, say, Krispy Kreme or Dunkin. I don't think the donuts themselves taste much of anything but the few shops I've tried have really good frosting that tastes of the flavor they're meant to be (like yuzu, matcha, hojicha, etc)

It's not really anything special. I got a butter croissant and pressed it flat into sugar, then I put it on a (mostly, aside from a tiny bit of butter) dry pan so the sugar can caramelize on the croissant. It's not too sweet, it's mostly for the texture. I usually use around 3 3/4-4 cup of flour after the initial one you mix with the yeast. I also dip the dough in a bowl filled with sesame seeds (around a cup maybe and don't use roasted ones) after poaching instead of sprinkling as suggested. The malt can be replace with either molasses or honey.
The measure for the egg is 1tbsp, you can actually omit the egg. The batch I just made is eggless and I can't taste or feel the difference.
I love making bagels, there are easy and fast due to the low resting time. It is also very easy to knead by hand.

I just realized I ate 6 types of cheeses yesterday night.
First I ate some ravioli filled with 4 cheeses (mozzarella, gorgonzola, edamer, ricotta) with a sour cream and mushroom sauce and I added parmesan on top.
That wasn't enough as I skipped lunch so immediately after I ate a salad with romaine lettuce, carrots, beets, avocado and olives in olive oil with a whole small wheel of camembert.

I have never had a moment when I've gotten tired of cheese as it happens with all other food. I'm probably going to have it for breakfast too.

I'm fucking obsessed with this shit. I've been eating it since I was studying abroad in Japan and I finally caved and bought it here in the states because it was on sale (still a bit pricey though at $7 a bag). I bought the chocolate flavor too. My roommate used to buy the matcha flavor but I don't think they've made that for the US market yet but I hope they do. I can't stop munching on it, it's so good. It's great with yogurt, it's great by itself, my favorite snack.

Am missing out on a big event and stuck at home because of the coof and wanted to make a big pot of ground turkey and cabbage soup, but the instacart shopper subbed ground turkey with chicken thighs (??) and forgot the parsley so I had to make do. Still tastes very good tho.
Recipe:
>chicken thighs or ground turkey
>beef stock
>canned whole tomatoes
>one big bay leaf or two smaller ones
>ideally parsley
>carrot
>celery
>onion
>garlic
>butter
>cabbage
>black bean paste (you can sub w/ soy sauce)
>fish sauce
>worcestershire sauce
>dark kidney beans
>sweet paprika
>caraway seeds
>marjoram
>mexican oregano
>white vinegar
1. chop and sauté carrot, onion, garlic, celery, bay leaf in butter on low heat (don't brown)
2. add thighs and sauté, avoid browning
3. after thighs don't look raw on the surface, add black bean paste and stir until it starts sticking to the bottom of the pot, then add paprika and stir for a few seconds
4. add beef stock, a dash of white vinegar, worcestershire sauce to taste, a conservative dash of fish sauce, a few caraway seeds, a liberal amount of dried marjoram and mexican oregano
5. chop (or tear if you're lazy) parsley and add to pot
6. roughly slice or chop cabbage and add to pot
7. simmer for ~50 mins, adding water if the soup gets too thick; if you're using bone-in thighs then take them out, separate the meat into pieces, then add them back to the pot (along with the bones for nutritional value if you want)
8. add kidney beans; you can also add a thickly sliced carrot at this point if you like big carrots in soup
9. simmer for 20-30 more mins
10. turn off the heat, add a shit ton of black pepper, add salt if it's undersalted, serve
You can adjust for taste as you go along, it's extremely hard to fuck up unless you overdo it with the fish sauce or vinegar or oversalt it.

You should try making your own pork broth if you're bored one day. Stock is really easy to make and cheap and the collagen is a major benefit, you're just stuck indoors for a few hours until it's done.
A great soup recipe for pork stock is borscht. There are a billion variations, but here's my tried and true one:
>4 medium-sized or 8 small beets (the smaller ones tend to be sweeter; try to get stalk-on because they're easier to peel and taste better)
>2 carrots
>1 large onion
>a few cloves of garlic
>dried marjoram
>stock of your liking
>tomato paste
>fresh parsley
>white vinegar
>large bay leaf
>sweet paprika if you want
>sugar if needed
>cabbage
>pork (skin-on, bone-on pork shoulder is my favorite but you can go for pre-cut boneless skinless pork shoulder for convenience or taste) - can sub with kidney beans or chuck beef
>cooking oil of choice (i prefer lard here)
1. finely mince half of the onion, one of the carrots, and garlic
2. sauté onion, carrots, garlic, and bay leaf in cooking oil
3. if you're using meat, add once the onions are translucent and lightly sauté, browning the meat will ruin the purity of the flavor here
4. add tomato paste, sauté until it starts to turn dark red at the bottom of the pot
5. add paprika if you're using it, stir for a few secs
6. add stock, parsley, marjoram, a dash of white vinegar
7. if you're using a cheap (i.e. GOOD) cut of meat, simmer for 1-2 hrs until the meat starts to fall apart; if you're using a bone-in cut then remove the bones at this point (as with >>1246716 you can add them back for flavor and nutrients)
8. meanwhile, peel the beets; shred half (you can approximate this with a knife if you cba to drag out a food processer) and cut the other half into matchsticks
9. add beets to pot about 50 mins in
10. shred/very finely cut the other carrot and cut the other half of the onion into very thin slices
11. once the meat gets tender (you can tell if it comes apart fairly easily if you try to pull it apart with a fork or tongs, add the rest of the carrot and onion and sugar if the beets turn out to be poor-quality
12. halve the cabbage and cut one half into thin slices like you did the onion (you can halve the slices if you don't want really long pieces of cabbage in your soup)
12. simmer for 20-30 more mins, then add cabbage, simmer for 10 more mins, then turn heat off and let rest for ~15 mins, until cabbage is wilted to your liking
13. stir to distribute ingredients and serve with sour cream, bread (optional) and fresh dill and/or parsley

Made the best chicken of my life today. Just started vibing with spices and tossing whatever in.
yogurt
lemon juice
orange juice (you're supposed to add sugar but I didn't want to, so I was like OJ has plenty of sugar. why no)
sumac (great for when you don't have lemon/vinegar! it emulates their tangy taste really well. heavily recommend for salads too)
a bit of cumin
a bit of turmeric
some salt and pepper
4 peeled garlic cloves
tomato paste
grind all that stuff together, get your chicken and rip it apart into really thin pieces. paper-thin. Or lay your knife flat on top of it, and start cuttings sideways from the top if that make sense. will create these paper thin pieces. also chicken thighs are better than chicken breasts because they're softer
let it marinate for a bit. a bit could be anything from an hour to 2 days
get a pan, put some butter/ghee/tallow/duck fat. the type of fat you use changes how it all tastes, stay away from olive oil
wait until your fat is simmering, make sure it's on the highest setting
and then drop all of your chicken straight into it. toss it around until it turns into a golden brown, i like my pieces a little burnt
put it in a bowl
get onions, chop them up. you can either put them as they are or caramelize them with the pan and your preferred type of fat. personally i like the crunchy texture against the chicken, so i don't caramelize it and put it as is
chop up some parsley, throw it in the ball. it really adds freshness
if you have pickles i 100000000000000000% recommend but i didn't have any
now you can eat from the bowl
i had a couple of ideas for the sauce but i was too lazy. yeah and i'd recommend letting the chicken defrost in buttermilk first, will make it softer and chewier

I also got a giant bag of this shit from costco for $5, it's the size of my torso. It's a good treat for me because it's definitely indulgent with that salty/sweet combo and a serving size is 140 calories and 1 1/4 of a cup. I also can't mindlessly eat out of the bag because I tried to yesterday and my tastebuds got really overwhelmed so I had to stop pretty soon after so at least I know I won't scarf down the whole bag because I can't.

I used to eat all the cheese or all the caramel at once. Sugar and cheese felt weird in my head even though I know cheese is often paired with jams and shit. Now I've realized that truly the perfect way to eat them is popping in a caramel and cheese one at once, otherwise it's too overwhelming too quickly. 10/10 good snack that satiates me, satisfies both my sugary and sweet cravings, that I can't overeat, and isn't terribly high in calories (but I still have the watch myself because of the sugar).

california legally requires importers to label their products with the prop 65 warning if they can't/don't provide proof against it. prop 65 has an absolutely insane list of what qualifies a product as unsafe, but most companies are probably too lazy to submit all the info and choose to slap a label on instead. i used to work for a furniture company that just chose to label everything with it because it's a huge hassle and it takes a while for approval.

https://www.foodsafetynews.com/2010/08/food-standards-agency-issues-seaweed-warning/

Sorry to leave quickly without explaining.
I couldn’t remember exactly what I had heard, but I thought I remembered something saying that there is a seaweed that is eaten in Japan that is not legal in the US.
I think it is this: hijiki seaweed, which doesn’t seem common. It’s illegal because it’s full of arsenic. I think all seaweed soaks up arsenic but this seaweed is bad because it’s inorganic or something, I really don’t know.
I hate seaweed so I don’t know enough about it.
I hear that otherwise nori seaweed is very healthy for you.
Eating a ton of seaweed can give you too much Iodine though!! So be careful! Look into it. It can cause thyroid problems, but I bet you have to eat a ton

No. 1293082

that's true, but i was speaking more to the fact that many companies don't care at all and choose to slap on the label. prop 65 has really crazy requirements, and if you actually look into it, anything that causes cancer, even in miniscule amounts is supposed to be labeled (like roasted vegetables)
>>1293051
>>1293057
hijiki is more likely to contain what's known as inorganic arsenic, which is usually caused by runoff from mining. it's just worse for you than organic arsenic which most seafoods have in them. either way it's one of those things where you can't reasonably eat enough for it to matter.

Unironically tasted amazing. The shrimp paste gave it a subtle sweetness, and the okra worked really well.

I made quinoa for the first time last night! It's sooo yummy. I want to make more and sub out all the rice I eat for quinoa but it's ass expensive. I saw online that Costco sells a 4.5lbs bag for only $12 though, so here's to hoping my local Costco has it because I'm not paying $5 for a 12oz bag every few week kek.

I used this recipe btw. https://www.cookincanuck.com/one-pot-chicken-quinoa-mushrooms-spinach-recipe/ Super easy and super yummy 10/10

I bought it the other day, checked some recipes online and it seems the way to prepare it is similar to any other fish. I defrosted it, seasoned it, everything seems fine. The smell is normal. I start frying it and holy shit it started stinking like a farm house on a hot day. As I'm frying it I'm hoping the taste is decent at the very least, smells can be ignored. I get it out of the pan, prepare my plate and try it out… It's fucking disgusting. Tastes exactly how it smells. Now I'm waiting for premade frozen chicken tendies in the oven.

I have been obsessed with summer rolls recently. I usually throw in some random salad mix and then protein and some sauce and it's good to go. The other day I used canned salmon with spicy mayo in there, then the day after I used leftover fried chicken, and last night I made a spicy gochujang based sauce and shredded chicken breast. Today I ate good. Cottage cheese, apples, kale/romaine salad with cheddar and guac for lunch. Plus breakfast.

I am so fucking hungry kek I cant wait for dinner. I have had enough calories today I think my stomach is bigger than it used to be from stuffing my face so it feels extra empty.

>stale bread or bread of your choice
>put the pineapples and the juice on one slice
>cheese on the other (cheap yellow superior cheese)
>pour oil into the pan
>put the bread with the cheese in the pan
>cook until the cheese slightly melts

A new thing I've been eating, I had this for breakfast. Flatbread (naan? The package says "Indian style flatbread"), laughing cow cheese, tzatziki sauce, and chicken. I've used hot and spicy wings from publix and fried chicken, but I imagine garlic parmesan or lemon pepper wing would be really good. If you're wondering why the chicken is the same color as the bread, it was super nasty and bland looking in the original pic so I had to adjust the color.

NTA but I started making my own hummus and it's a game changer. I also thought I didn't like store bought hummus but the reality is that store bought hummus just fucking sucks. It's also more expensive and a fucking scam. I would advise you take the time to peel the chickpea skins if you're using canned chickpeas. It takes a bit of time but not that much effort (just lightly squeeze and it'll pop out of the skin). I also like to lightly roast whole garlic cloves on the stove before putting them into the blender. Lately my dad has been making fried garlic oil so I'll put in the garlic oil in place of olive oil and put in the fried garlic chunks instead of raw/roasted garlic. You could also put in sundried tomatoes! I can never find tahini so I don't put any in, but I enjoy it all the same. Honestly, I will eat my homemade hummus by itself with a spoon as a little snack. Sometimes I feel too lazy to peel the skins off so I consider just buying some hummus but then I think about how a can of chickpeas is only 85 cents while a small container of hummus is like $4… and then I also think about how there is not enough garlic in store bought hummus for my taste so I suck it up and make my own hummus. My only other problem is that shit is so delicious that it won't even last more than a few days before I've eaten all of it.

Sorry for my hummus sperg.

I tried picrel from Trader Joe's and I'm so very disappointed. The shrimp/breading was super bland and the everything about sauce (taste, texture, appearance) reminds me of frosting. The sauce is only sweet with pretty much no other flavor, and there's sooo much of it for the amount of shrimp. After adding the shrimp to the sauce I realized it was way too much and ended up pouring some out, which somehow made it super flavorless. Like I said, I pretty much only tasted sweet. When it comes to frozen honey shrimp, the P.F Chang one is so much better.

just cooked a big handful of large shrimp because it was easy (precooked frozen type) and I wanted something to eat with a freshly baked bread roll which was a tester for baking more later today. I also sampled a few of the large corona beans in tomato sauce I'm cooking for dinner later. I used this recipe with some modifications https://cooklikeagreekblog.com/roasted-beans-in-tomato-sauce-gigates-plaki/ it turned out well! Bread and some big fat beans is one of my favorite meals.
Not sure what to call the bread shape I made, it was like a mini batard… it was just flour water salt and yeast, nothing fancy. I think I'll cook the rolls about 5 minutes longer when I do them later.

I also made rice paper dumplings filled with Mexican style rice stew, and then dipped those in the tzatziki. I got pretty badly burnt by the oil, I guess that was god punishing me for my abomination of a fusion dish.

Schnitzel with potato pancakes, sour cream and a small beer. Reminds me of German roadside restaurants when I was a kid, the memories kek.

French green lentils with acini de pepe, roughly 70:30 of lentil to pasta. Thinly sliced fennel bulb, red onion, roma tomato and cloves of garlic boiled with lentils are lightly dressed with rice wine vinegar and evoo before lentils+pasta are mixed in. Eaten with cows milk feta and pickled onions with a touch of tunisian olive oil. I like making some kind of bean/pasta salad in bulk that will last the week.

Finally someone who fucking gets it. Girls I know you can see this and this is your proof that not only is ants on a log tasty but other full grown adult women eat it too. I have no shame! You can make other bugs too. Why are you so fucking jealous of my pretzel spiders?!?

I just had some delicious oatmeal, it was perfect, I added a bit of pumpkin spice, a teaspoon of sugar, 1/2 of milk, 1/2 of oatmeal and 1/2 of water. If I could, I would have oatmeal all of the time, I love it so much. But tbh, I don’t know if I would actually like having something like chocolate oatmeal, I should give it a try someday maybe during a cheat day.

Craving some oatmeal now, mm. Chocolate oatmeal is good! Add a spoonful of chocolate tahini or some nutella, some butter and little sprinkle of cinnamon, handful of nuts, yum. Good for overnight oats or rice pudding too.

I made one of those starbucks copycat recipes for the pumpkin cold brew foams because I cba to pay $7 for it.

>mix and refrigerate overnight:

500 ml heavy cream
300 ml 2% milk
100 ml vanilla syrup

>mix day of

100 ml sweetened condensed milk
pumpkin spice seasoning

>take desired amount from both mixes (2:1 ratio), froth with a milk frother

>pour over top of homemade cold brew - toddy for best results

I don’t know how I discovered canned soups in 2020, this shit is such a life saver, I only want to eat this when I’m sick as fuck like today, I prefer chicken noodle soup though, but the chicken stars soup isn’t bad either. I prefer regular soup of course, but this is so practical for whenever I feel too sick to make a soup from scratch.

Used half the seasoning packet of ramen to make noodles with green onion, spinach, and a sunny side up egg. I added garlic butter, and it ended up really good. I'm going to add garlic butter again sometime
