Ever since the Biggest Loser started airing in 2004, many former contestants have come forward and have said that the show’s crash dieting ruined their health. They say that the show ruined their metabolism, and they ended up regaining the weight.
However, no former contestant has been saltier about being on the show than Kai Hibbard, a contestant who appeared on Season 3 of the show. She chose to be on the show after a friend told her that she was “really fat”. Not only does she speak out against the show’s weight loss approach, but she goes on to say that the show is a “fat-shaming disaster” and “the biggest mistake” of her life. She also says that the show was “sexist” because the women had to wear sports bras while the men could wear T-shirts.
But Hibbard has taken it a step further. Not only does she speak out against diet culture, but also against dieting in general. She believes in the “health at every size” approach. Like most supporters of the movement, she won’t acknowledge that extreme obesity is just as dangerous to health as extreme emaciation. She has written articles for the now-defunct XOJane and Cracked websites about her biased views on weight. More recently, she has written a book called “Losing It A Fictional Reimagining of My Time on Weight Loss Reality TV” about a fat girl who loses weight on a reality show.
On Twitter, I confronted her about these ridiculous views, only to be told, “You don’t know what binge-eating disorder is,” or “Go the fuck away”. She acts like she knows everything about weight and doesn’t want to hear about the obesity epidemic.
