How they dance and mingle with the dark arts, how they breathe new life in a putrid lump of flesh, how they bend and bind the dead to their will, all skills that require practice and dedication, and what comes out of it is nothing short of amazing. They break the natural cycle of things and give new purpose to what was destined to rot and decay, be reabsorbed by nature, and eventually disappear.
Casting such spells takes a heavy toll on a pure soul, so there are none in their midst. Some of the most twisted and contorted people become necromancers well after they have been ostracised by general populace; they might as well find some company and comfort with the dead and those who do their bidding. Necromancy for them is a pale ray of hope that they might have a semblance of human contact, the obsession with power and control comes later and they are rarely aware of it.
I myself would never commit such depraved acts, but I have appreciation for art, wherever it might be found. As to how I know this much about them… It’s a story for another time.
