Behind all the politness most of the Japanese people are looking down on foreigners, I don't want to go into detail. In my homecountry there live a lot of Japanese and they are welcomed. Foreigners in Japan are basically just welcomed when they are tourists.
After working in Japan for over two years I must say: Dakota is handling Japan pretty well and I started to like that she keeps fighting, then even if they say "real barbie ningyou", in reality they are making fun of her. Also her Oyaji chara and the things she has to say on TV are scripted. Japanese can be so stupid, they often use foreigners for a few quick laughs. I somehow feel sorry for her. There is also a lot of bullying in Japan, I could imagine that the other popteen models could try to bully her out of the magazine, but i don't now.
After seeing how she - the typical "stupid foreigner" - is used in Japan, I would love to see her making it big here, getting more popular and kicking the butts of the other popteen models (eg.
