Froom her LJ days, it's clear that PT used to be a pretty shy, docile teenager. She had some friends in school and did her weebish thing, but her parents pushed her to do well academically. PT is very all or nothing. That's her biggest issue. Debbie has bought her Japanese related things when she was younger and street fashion-esque clothes and accesories.
The tipping point seemed to have been the 'I'm half Japanese' for her. I think that showed the depth's of PT's delusions.
Whereas I do agree that screaming at your crying daughter is bad parenting, I think she had trouble understanding her own daughter's delusions. PT, on the surface, has managed to keep her life somewhat together. Unlike other lolcows, she has graduated school and has had held down jobs for long periods of time. I've been following this exchange and I have to agree: I still have mixed feelings towards my mother even though I still get called a whore and a worm because I don't want to deal with her or the rest of my family after having moved out. It's been a long back and forth: she'd stop drinking and be nicer to me, I'd think it's shitty from a daughter to not talk to her mother and go back to communicating and then she'd start over again. Even so, I do feel incredibly guilty. I've had a therapist explain to me how it's really not normal to be told that you're a traitor because you didn't let your mother and brother go on and hit your father with a mallet after he was already on the ground and bleeding from the head, when he hadn't even been aggressive himself and only had a disagreement with them. If you grow up in that kind of environment you just constantly feel like an alien when you get out of it and see how other families (with all their flaws) actually behave.

I've said this before, but growing up I had a friend very similar to PT. It was small town so you know how it goes, can't be too picky with friends, especially when you're quiet and have interests outside of mudding, tractor pulls, and getting pregnant at 16. We were really young so I didn't know what I was getting myself into, we became friends around 8 years old. Going into high school it got worse and she embarrassed me, I distanced. She was a weeb and had a hard time making friends. Built similarly to Sarah before she gained more. I got out of that town as soon as I could around 16. Ignored her attempts to contact me for the most part. Three years later she killed herself. No one saw it coming. She was very squeamish, and just kind of in her own little dreamy weeb world.
