What are some films or TV shows where you were blown away by the acting?

Leonardo Dicaprio in Basketball diaries will never fail to amaze me. His performance as a drug addicted teen is just incredible.

House of Cards-UK. Specifically, Ian Richardson.

Joaquin Phoenix is toptier

Tom Hanks just nails those emotional scenes every time

Virtually everybody in the 2000 movie Quills. Geoffrey Rush as the Marquis de Sade is spectacular, and Michael Caine's role as Royer-collard is quite chilling.

For anybody that enjoys dark, black, decadent cinema I highly recommend this movie. Joaquin Phoenix and Kate Winslet is in it too so there's that.

I went away and watched this movie after seeing your post but I didn't see anything particularly special.

What was it about Leo's performance that stood out to you specifically?

Tim Curry

Tim Curry will always be Dr. Frank-N-Furter to me! Such a great movie.

Never saw it, but his acting in What's Eating Gilbert Grape was amazing. I honestly thought he was retarded.

Anon that wasn't acting.

Never thought Will Smith is a good actor in particular, but he's really good in this scene. Never fails to make me teared up a little.

iirc the end of that scene wasn't really acting, and Smith kind of ad libbed it based on his own experiences.

>ad lib
that is to say, those are his real emotions coming out

It's not. That entire thing about Will having a bad relationship with his father is some kind of weird pop. culture myth.

No. 95291

>>95289
yeah, it was a myth. I've read his interviews about this scene somewhere and he said his relationship with his father is fine, he never left him. I'll post the article here when I found it again.

I remember being a big fan of this show and this episode legit caught me off guard as a young teen.

Will Smith was so cute in this series before he went off into the Wild Wild West.

No. 95309

Will Smith is one of the whiners who boycotted the oscars because not enough black people were nominated.

Jake Gyllenhall (sp?) in Nightcrawler. Especially with his speech to Nina, like I really felt it.

Also Phillip Seymour Hoffman in just about all he's done (with the obvious exceptions).

No. 95373

Such an incredible scene

In this thread, we're talking about incredible acting ONLY. Don't turn the thread into another race-war, just go to SJW/Tumblr thread if you want to complain about his Oscar race diversity thingy.

Yes, hence no Will Smith allowed.

No. 95380

You and the anon that posted Will Smith video both are not wrong, it's called personal preference, ever heard of it?

Back on topic, I agree with >>95370 , Jake Gyllenhaal is amazing in Nightcrawler. This scene in particular gave me chills, how can he keep his face straight after what he had done in the movie is beyond me.

No. 95381

>>95380
Comparing Will Smith to the likes of Javier Bardem or even Jake Gyllenhaal is laughable.

No. 95383

>>95381
Calm down, no one is comparing.
