Modern art is a pretty wide topic bruh. Nothing you get out of this thread is going to be anything special compared to what is already a we quick Google away.
If you want to see "good" modern art then go look at galleries and blogs. If you want to see modern art "debunked" by angry purist shut-ins then go to /ic/

Yes, but you probably won't come across it often. The concept of "good" has been abandoned since the advent of the romantic and the modern waves. They pretty much brought down traditional forms and standards, and that was over a hundred years ago. IMO all the social movements for equality made matters worse and assured the permanence of this "good and bad are a matter of opinion" free for all. It's already hard to recover lost traditions in the first place (the standards and movements changed over the years, but AFAIK this is the first time they were effectively erased), couple that with the PC paranoia that dismisses all standards as oppression and voilà, if you don't think neon letters saying MY VAGINA IS WET WITH FEAR is great art then you're a bigot.


But to be quite honest I find most people who complain about it disgusting. They feel superior for noticing how terrible contemporary art is but have no real background, knowledge, or taste either. That's even more pathetic than sucking a hairy asshole as artistic performance.

I'm not defending "modern" (an outdated label I might add) art, I'm not saying it's good, I'm saying your average whiner (correctly) recognizes how bad is it, but doesn't know why good art is good (besides "old paintings were so beautiful why is modern art abstract and ugly!?!!?").

Art is not part of most people's everyday lives, or their social lives, or their professional lives.

You only rage and feel disgust towards the current bad stuff because you have (unquestioningly) put art on a pedestal, as if its value was self evident. It's not. Art is useless. And there is nothing inherently noble and admirable about it either.

Most of the time when people talk about "modern" art, they mean contemporary. Modern art was prominent in 1960s- 1970s. Contemporary art we see today is the kind of stuff done for "shock" value, plus a lot of shit performance art which correlates with a lot of shitty and lazy feminist art.
