Would it be weird to have a thread about electronic music, shows, raves, festivals, etc.? I know we have a music thread but I'd like to focus on electronic music and the culture and events surrounding it. I'm sure some other farmers beside myself are part of the scene.

No. 93309

Yes.

I love electronic music, specifically dubstep. Yeah Ik I'm a minority here and I get shit all the time for liking "not real
Music", but damn I can't help what I like you know? I've been a reg festival attendee for a couple years now. Not big on drugs contrary to pop belief about festies. This is my third year at Spring Awakening( the lineup this year is literally the last 4 years of SA combined) and 2nd at Efo. There's no other feeling in the world that can compare to the pure euphoria I feel when with my friends and listening to my favorite, mind-bending, loud music flowing through my body, no drugs needed.
This theead will prolly die tho cuz n1 on lolcow prolly goes to festivals/EDM concerts or likes the music enough to go.
Tbh I mis when 'EDM' and festivals like edc and ultra were more niche and not tainted with basic bitches and frat guys getting fucked up on Molly and beer so they can tell their friends they went to "rave" broooo and how they "rolled so much face bro". Fucking stupid

I miss the scene too anon. I jumped in very late, but it was early enough for me to taste the amazingly pure drugs and super chill vibes. That drug is once, tops thrice, in a lifetime, but the atmosphere…I lived for that for so long.
Then it died out cause too many bros and basic sloots wanted to parade around and look like the shit whilst getting trashed on bunk shit they never bothered to test. W/e.

Any music recommendations?
I'm looking for things that are standard fare at festivals (I don't listen to mainstream stuff so I end up feeling left out in conversation) and cutesy electronic. I think the genre for that is bubblegum beat or something?

This probably doesn't exactly count but I'm going to see a Vocaloid concert next week.

I feel like an idiot for buying the ticket because I'm going on an out-of-state trip alone but if I wind up hating it it'll just be a once in my life thing.

No. 93391

I don't understand the term EDM. Does it describe huge raves with 2 000 people sweating and going crazy on bad pills? Or is it just an umbrella term for electronic music? I love going to small parties with maybe 100-500 people dancing to techno and/or house but I'd never go to one of these massive raves. Thankfully they don't really exist in my country anyway.

No. 93392

>>93391
EDM = electronic dance music
>>93382
OP here, that doesn't count. I personally am interested in vocaloid for its technical applications as an instrument but do not consider music made with it to necessarily be electronic music

I'm trying to plan an outfit for a show I'm going to this summer, would anyone be interested in seeing it and maybe giving me some ideas? I've made a quick drawing and am trying to balance out being comfortable enough to dance/not overheat and looking cute. It's going to be an indoor show btw

Come on, I'm not that stupid. I know what it stands for but I thought within the last years it changed meaning and is now a genre in itself. Describing a specific form of american electronic music culture with very big spectacular raves and famous DJs like Steve Aoki.

No. 93399

>>93397
EDM has become increasingly commercial over the past several years, yes.
Steve Aoki is a talent-less hack who uses too many gimmicks
EDM is a broad genre. Also most famous producers are European actually, especially French

The only artist I listen to that puts out "light" shit is Kaskade. He's got a lot of feel good songs and he's the biggest name right now. Just played at the Los Angeles convention center which is just a massive room.

No. 93408

Is it not a genre with sub genre? Those aren't raves anymore anyway, they're music festivals that have sucked all the essence out of a rave.
>>93399
French? That's interesting because all I ever hear now is Swedish Swedish Swedish. Like all these other djs promoting a bunch of people out there.

No. 93410

So would you call Valentin Stip, Ital and Kassem Mosse EDM? In Berlin EDM is used as a sort of derogatory term. That's why I wanted to hear from american anons how the term is being used in the US.

As an American, it is a derogatory term, just not to the kids who go to shows just to pop bunk pills and die. Like anon said, it's become commercial so everyone who had hopped on in recent years wouldn't know how detested that term is.

No. 93474

>>93410
"EDM" is considered deragatory by a lot of people in the US, except for actual fans of the genre(s). It's another craze just like disco, and it will eventually fade out like disco did. Hopefully to be replaced by more interesting electronic genres.

I'm annoyed with the ignorance and people's inability to take the proper precautions to keep themselves, others, and the scene free from harm. I get so annoyed when I talk to people and they don't even bother to do the most basic tests on their substances. It's so cheap to buy too.

Holy shit Savant <3 very happy to find another fan, and on lolcow of all places.

I got into the festival scene when I was 17 and it's been amazing so far, I try to do about two fests per year that are drivable and have at least 10 acts that I will enjoy. My only problem is that I dont like having my phone on me at shows and if I do, I forget to take photos. So, i'm thinking of starting some kind of festival and concert review blog, since i've probably seen at least 100 live acts in the last three years (I also work at concert venues around my city). Any advice for starting a project like this?

Also as an aside, and a reply to >>93784
I have noticed in the last 2 years that the scene is becoming very riddled with people who… don't give a shit. And I know it's super snotty to be "oh I have such superior music taste"… but I just think that if you wanna go get fucked up in the trees, go do that for $50 instead of wasting your time and money when there are people out there who are working their asses off to see some of their favourite artists. I went to a festival last year and I asked someone if they had caught the previous night's act (Skrillex was playing a tiny ass festival) and she said no. No, not because she was enjoying some of the other music, but because she was too fucked up and started talking to a tree on her 6 hour mushroom trip and missed EVERYTHING.

I'm just saying it's fun for you to get a little whacky sometimes, but learn how to pace yourself and maybe give a little more of a shit. Some of these people travel across the world to play for you, so show some respect lol.

/endrant

p.s. >>93902 most people do crack or cocaine at country music fests.

I'm going to my first show. I've never gone to an EDM show before, only concerts for other genres. How crazy should I expect the crowd to be?

No. 94165

I miss what races used to be like. It used to a place where me and other socially awkward people would go and dance, exchange kandi, and feel accepted by everyone there. It had a sense of unity. Ive strayed away from the scene and I don't know when I'll return. Maybe I'll go to a con rave for the first time to see what those are like.

Also I'm a sucker for trance and have a very guilty pleasure for happy hardcore.

No. 94191

>>94149
Depends on the size of the concert and who is playing. If it's dubstep you might get bumped into a bit and possible get caught in a mosh pit lol. Most other crowds aren't bad. But if the concert is a large capacity then you may get bumped a little bit.

So I guess this thread is less about electronic music as it is about EDM/rave/dance music?

I love electronic music but I dont know if the stuff I listen to is dance-y at all. I really like happy stuff and chip tune. I'll dump some stuff if anyone wants.
>my music taste is probably shit anyways but I dont care, I like listening to it.
I'd also love for others to dump music because I love finding new things to check out.

been listening to drum'n'bass for over twenty years and going to shows. i enjoy it.

> tfw you wonder if you are too old to be at clubs/festivals anymore.

here's probably the best d'n'b internet radio station: www.bassdrive.com tune in to that regularly and see if you like jungle.

I also really love hardcore these days. That has the absolute worst name because no one knows what it is and it's too generic. Basically it's really fast aggressive shit that crazy dutch kids love. It's like happy hardcore without the happy? I love this radio station: hardcoreradio.nl and also harder.fm is good.

What I don't like is psuedo-techno like Fatboy slim or Prodigy or anything that cracked the top 40 basically. I don't mind the catch-all term EDM, it's better than "Techno" or "Electronica" and I use it when I am explaining to normies what I like.

Ohhh fuck yes. Miku's voice just fit perfectly with electronic music instead of the usual ultra-kawaii-uguu and vocarock bullshit. It's truly a pity that the usual faggots who like her just won't use her for what suits her.

Thanks for the song, btw, Didn't know it.
