>lying on the bed on the phone with bae
>randomly sit up on the bed and look at my PC monitor
>it's an installation screen
>it's Windows 10
>Windows 10 has begun automatically installing itself
>it's at 11%
>there's no way to exit the upgrade

Right so some of you might call me a Slowpoke but I legit did not have a clue about this so I'm betting that there are a lot of people on here that don't as well.

So apparently Microsoft has lost their fucking mind and in their desperation to get everybody onto their spyware platform decided to bump that annoying Windows 10 upgrade from a recommended download to an important download. If you have got settings set to automatically install important MS updates, Windows 10 will now automatically download to your PC, sit on your HD in secret and at opportune moments attempt to forcibly install itself.

So, you go out to walk the dog? Take an extended phone call? Nip to the store for some juice? You might come back to all the work you had open just fucking gone, a shit load of software and hardware non-operable and Microsoft™ spyware up the ass (not to mention pay-to-play Solitaire).
Worst case scenario for people running a dual boot rig, their PC's have been bricked completely.

Fortunately I caught mine before it was too late and am now in the process of bleaching my PC, but this this so unbelievably fucked up I felt I need to warn others.

Fucking great. I just logged into my PC after shutting the whole thing down to stop the Windows 10 upgrade, and apparently 11% was enough to fuck up my peripherals. My mouse is no longer being detected.

WHAT THE ACTUALLY FUCK MICROSOFT

Is this actually legal?

They made these changes months ago. Look up which windows updates to uninstall to completely remove win10 upgrade bloatware, there should be dozens of comprehensive articles on it.

This happened to me one night while sleeping, pissed me the fuck off when I woke up the next morning and realized it. Windows 10 is fucking awful and clearly meant for phones/ tablets and not fucking desktops.

so much rage, pic related

I still use Windows Vista and I haven't gotten a single popup from Windows about updating anything ever. Feels good man.

Yeah I came home to window 10 yesterday. My laptop was on standby too.

Not happy. Theres a reason I never chose to install it

Pretty sure you can revert to win7 within a month of upgrading. Unless MS got rid of that which wouldn't surprise me.

The lesson to be learned today is turn off automatic updates or you're pretty much asking for shit to happen to your PC without your consent.

I've been using StartIsBack ever since windows 8. Best $3 I've spent to save my sanity.
There is no way anyone can survive without a win7 start menu

I disable features I don't want and ignore Cortana. Didn't the aliens kill her?

You can, but the forced install can fuck your PC up in that time.

let me tell you about how windows ten completely cucked my laptop. 3 fucking times.

First time it updated it unistalled literally all my drivers somehow. I had to spend 2 weeks fixing that shit and it finally let me revert back to the pre-update form.

the second time it ruined my laptop was when I tried to install a Linux OS instead (this was like after the 1 month thing was over)

I had to take the damn computer apart and take out the bios batter over night.

the third time it fucked me up was when I booted the PC in safe mode to take out some adware someone installed

when I came out of safe mode I literally had a brick.

>There is no way anyone can survive without a win7 start menu

eh you get used to it i guess. though tbf i rarely open the start menu unless I'm looking at the weather

!!if you have win10!! turn off all the "on" privacy shit (esp the shit in settings>privacy>general) and turn off cortana and turn off wifi sense

Holy shit I'm glad this hasn't happened to me yet even though my auto update was on. Thanks for the warning, OP. I had to use Windows 10 temporarily and it is hands down the worst OS I've ever used. It's so buggy, windows explorer would always stop working, and only 2 little pixel indie games worked on it. Couldn't even play fucking visual novels. Don't even get me started on how many times I tried to open media players or images and it would only give me errors. Paying extra for having Windows 7 installed was so fucking worth it.

I know it's a security risk, but I've never had windows updates on.

How do propose that Microsoft intends to make money from Windows 10? Ofc they're selling our data, they've already admitted to it.

I know the site looks dodgy, but it hosts a VERY reputable piece of software called "GWX Control Panel", and it's effectively a Windows 10 firewall. I use it now and it's fantastic, keeps it all beaten back.

Can't speak for the 'selling our data' part but any operating system that has advertising built into it catered to you based on how you use your computer gets a pass from me. Dealing with that stuff online is bad enough, I don't need it in the OS itself.

Potentially, until Microsoft finds a work around and forces you to assimilate. You need to install GWX Control Panel v
