Thread to post new, useful, interesting, and/or unique products you own or found online. I like watching product reviews and seeing all the weird shit companies make.

Get these earring backs and you'll never in your life lose another earring again. I've gifted these to my sisters, cousins, friends etc. they're that good.

Basically how it works is that you can only remove them by pincing them between two fingers. (Never pinch them when you're sliding them on the earring). They're pretty affordable too, like 10 pounds for two pairs.

do they hurt when you sleep? that's like my biggest problem about earrings, I want to leave them on but they end up hurting me

The backs itself don't hurt, no. Are you sure it's not the posts of your earrings that hurt you? At least I push the backs far enough onto the posts that they poke into my skin when I rest on the side of my face. But that happens regardless of what backs you use.

I’ve noticed that certain shades of clothing or makeup make me look super washed out or make me look sick and I could never be able to match my lipstick to my face in a way that actually looks flattering and was getting super frustrated trying to figure out why.

Several YouTube rabbit holes later I found out about the different ‘seasons’ based on the skin tones and skin/hair contrast and I got one of these swatches off of Amazon that is supposed to help me pick shades that work well on me. So far it’s working very well, it’s small enough to carry in my bag whenever I’m shopping for clothes or makeup and I think it’s a super interesting product so I figured I’d share.

If anyone is interested, just google Season Colors and you can do a quiz that tells you what your season is ( I recommend doing a few different tests since some are better than others ). There’s a few different places that sell physical swatches like pic attached but you’re also good enough just saving a pic of the colors on your phone as well - I found that the irl swatches just work better under different lighting if you want to be more precise with getting the colors right.

I got my wheel from here:
https://en.color-style.com/product-categories/seasonal-color-swatch-fans/

Forgot to mention they’re kind of pricy, there’s a US-based site called Color me Beautiful that has similar ones for $40… I couldn’t find any cheaper ones online, looks like aliexpress and wish don’t have any knockoffs yet either. The material the swatches are printed on is some type of paper so imo they’re way overpriced, my only gripe with it is that it could have been some type of plastic instead.

I recommend starting with a card, they’re about $7 and have the colors printed on both sides. They’re also plastic so they’re much more durable, the only drawback ( which was my main reason for getting the wheel ) is that the cards are tiny and each swatch is only about the width of my pinky finger:

Oh I also have one of these! One of my friends had won a "colour consult" for two and she took me with her, that's how I ended up with it. They "draped" us with pieces of fabrics near our face and you could really tell how certain colours made us look more tired and older while other colours made us look fresher and brighter. I had this coat and I always noticed how bright I looked in the mirror when I wore it, now I know it's because it was one of the few pieces I owned that was in a colour that works with my complexion. Ever since I've completely eradicated black from my wardrobe lol.

The one thing I must note is that I'm not sure how much it matters if you're someone who wears a full face of make-up everyday, especially make-up for the skin. The draping was done completely on bare faces and you could tell how "bad" colours made imperfections, spots, lines, bags under the eyes etc. more pronounced but if you're going to cover that up with foundation anyway…?

I want to take my bf to one of those color consults. Obviously he doesn't wear make-up or dye his hair, so it would be very useful since he refuses to just wear black. Unless you can type at home accurately…. We have tried with a test but I'm confused about his skin tone. Just found out a local online shop is selling those color swatches for specific beauty types. It would be superhelpful to have when shopping, but I don't want to invest until I'm 100% sure of his type.

I think you can type someone at home accurately (esp. if you stick to 4 seasons rather than 12) if you have an eye for telling cool/warm, soft/hard and muted/bright apart. If you don't, one of those color consults is probably a good idea! Make sure you know what you're getting though, there's the 4 seasons, the 12 seasons (every season from the 4 seasons divided into 3 more sub-types) and even an 18 "absolute color system" but I can't find a lot of info online about that one.
