That's exactly what it was all about when I was still on tumblr, you had brats calling each other out saying "I'm kin with Komaeda which means that I'm him/his real life version/his reincarnation and this one tumblr user is also kin with him and it's identity theft!!" on a regular basis at some point and it was just ridiculous. I did see way after that people using the term "kin" sarcastically just like you said but it was only sarcasm to make fun of how absurd this is.
I guess it's kinda like the word weaboo, it came from the word "wapanese" and was about white people being otaku and wanting to be Japanese just because they're obsessed with anime and jpop, people started using it as a hyperbole or for sarcasm and it just means "someone from the west who likes anime and jpop", who knows
