Make guest list
Invite them
Plan menu
Google recipes or hire a caterer
Prepare food day before. Buy or bake a cake today as well.
Hang up some balloons in bunches and hang streamers from the knots
Make a banner
Hang that sumbitch up behind the food table. Don't be skimpy with decoration.
Use tablecloths and napkins and shit that matches.
Dumbass drunk friends likely to break your shit? Give everyone disposable plastic. Spend two extra bucks and get the ones that at least look like you care.
Don't skimp on the fucking decorations.

Have you thought of doing some sort of theme party? Anything that the two of you share an interest in? People like themed shit so they may be a bit more enthusiastic about it. It also gives you a sort of guideline on how to decorate and what foods to serve. You guys like Star Wars? Have everyone dress up as a Star Wars character and get a R2-D2 or BB-8 cake. Have Star Wars music playing in background. Pass out candy lightsabers. Something like that will be fun and can be surprisingly minimal effort if you don't want to handmake everything. Just make sure you push the theme or it'll come out looking half-assed.
