Since the Powerball jackpot is now over a billion dollars. Just for fun, what will you do if you win??

I would freak out, not tell anyone, and worry about being instantly famous for a second. Then id take care of my dad. Help my sister and her family be secure. Then figure out how to start a business or something. and travel everywhere with my best friend/boyfriend.

I'm boring. I'd pay off my student loans. Buy my parents a nice comfy home, and buy me and my husband a house near my parents (cause they're cool as shit and we love them), buy 1 car, and some nice computer shit for me and my family. Save some for retirement for me and my parents and donate the rest because no living human being needs that much fucking money.

I'd hire some lawyers and a financial planner or two and try to create a trust I could hide behind to retain a bit of privacy. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't fly in my state. Wish I lived in one of the states where winners could remain anonymous.

Anyway, what I'd do with the money: I would give a bunch of it to my family and a few close friends since I know our relationships wouldn't survive the economic disparity otherwise and they mean more to me than money.

With the money I kept for myself, I would listen to my lawyers and financial planners to ensure that I wouldn't fuck up and would be set for life.

Some things I would do with the money: pay off student loans and buy a house on at least five acres of flat land with a creek running through it within easy driving distance to my town. I would then get a poodle. (I am broke and rent so no dog for me right now.)

If I could conceal my identity as the lottery winner, I would wait a couple months until no one would associate my quitting work with potentially winning the lottery and give two weeks notice, telling my boss and coworkers I would be going back to school full time. I would then actually go back to school and graduate and by that time I'd have a better idea of what the hell I'd want to do with the rest of my life.

Can you tell I've actually given this a lot of thought? I know it's a pipedream, but I bought a ticket last Saturday for the first time in years. I'm planning on buying another tomorrow, though I feel silly gambling.

Therapy. So much therapy

I would immediately call a lawyer to get a referral to BigLaw. I would then call someone with serious financial expertise from a bank. Listening to them would be important. Both of them would be rewarded greatly for their work.

I would make sure to remain anonymous and try to live a normal live as I can. I do not want the press to find out.

Of course, I'm not going to win. I'm not buying a lottery ticket. I already have enough money as it is and I'm still unhappy.

I'd definitely share some of it to my family and co-workers. I don't have many friends but there's two or three I would want to give some money to as well.

I've never been able to go to a University so it's something I thought about doing if I had money. I feel like with that much cash it'd be kind of a waste though, unless I can get a job in something I enjoy after. At this point in life I'd rather just get a really nice house in the woods and be comfy with an occasional overseas trip.

I would also distance myself from relatives just to be safe. It seems like the lottery screws some people up sometimes so I'd rather lay low to avoid getting robbed or extorted.

I'd take care of adult responsibility stuff i.e. loans. And then I'd start a qt indie comics publishing company and spread the wealth to fellow starving artists.

Also a shopping trip to Japan.

That much money is just overwhelming to think about though.

OP here

>that much money is overwhelming to think about

I know what you mean. My plan and your plan combined, leaves a ridiculous amount left. Like, I would have to still have a job or something bc my tendency would be to hermit crab it up. And it would drive me insane.

Different anon here. I honestly can't comprehend how much money that is and so my brain just reads it as "enough money to live comfortably for the rest of my life; enough money to ensure my loved ones are taken care of"–I don't find that overwhelming at all.

Yes, but what would you do with all the time it bought you? Use it for good or evil? Share it or Hoard it?

With the luxury of time I could focus on my new dog, travel, and my passion: local ecology and wildlife conservation.

I would hoard enough to ensure I would always have a good standard of living and would probably spend too much money buying up land and creating some kind of legal entity to protect the wildlife. I'd also love to fund a scholarship or two for students studying abroad, especially for students studying biology. I gained so much from traveling and studying different ecosystems and encountering different cultures–I'd love to give back if I could. Oh, and I'd see if I could form a scholarship for my high school's trips abroad. And put a shitload of money into my town–so many great projects to revitalize older neighborhoods, fix or replace the broken headsteads in local cemetaries, pay for a new library, help fund more art and music related children's programs….

I seriously can come up with all sorts of good uses for the money. With time, money, and vision, so many things are possible.
