Hey lolcow, I figured since some of you are older perhaps in your years you have gained some knowledge here.

What kind of things do you do when you're sick and what medicine do you find works best.

Depends on if you have to take care of yourself or if you have a sla… significant other.

Soups, especially chicken soup does help and they go down easy if you have a sore throat.

Garlic, if you can bear it. Eat one clove, stink like hell. Make sure to chew. It's anti-bacterial and it's a vitamin bomb. Clears up you pipes too.

Take multivitamins in general because chances are you aren't eating enough.

Other than that, just try to be comfortable and rest. There isn't really any remedies, just ways to make it marginally less shitty - and that's really up to individual preferences.

2 oz of elderflower
2 oz of crushed peppermint leaves
then put them in boiling water
you can also use 1 oz echinacea. it'll help relieve your symptoms and improve your mood greatly. herb blends and alternative medicines help a lot but doctors don't want you to know about it. you're welcome.

cold medicine that has an expectorant (guaifenesin). get that shit out of your lungs asap, basically.
taking hot showers to help further decongest yourself.
and then just stay as hydrated as possible.

also if you have a sore throat, gargling warm salt water will reduce swelling via osmosis. tastes gross as fuck but it works.

It depends if it's a cold or allergies.

With a cold I rarely take medicine, since it usually makes my symptoms worse (but my body is a sensitive lil bitch so that's just me). I mostly drink 'cold' tea.

If you're dry coughing, drink Throat Coat tea. Right when you think you're starting to get sick drink a ton of Emergen-C. It usually keeps me from getting a full blown cold.

STAY AWAY from gluten, sugar, and especially dairy. Diary will increase your mucus production and keep you sick/make you more sick. Same goes for gluten and sugar but dairy is the worst. Try to stay away from that stuff as well as you can too for a while after a cold.

Take any "night" cold medicine and promptly crash
Theraflu and the other "liquid stuff"

thank you all so much. I took a bit of medicine and made some hot honey lemon water and that's helped a lot. I'll try a lot of the thing here. I real appreciate it

I had the flu earlier last week and my entire body ached something terrible so I turned my shower on full blast and up really hot and just sat on the floor and leant up against the wall for like 20 minutes.

The hot steam will clear out your throat/nose of mucus (you have to spit it up/blow it out of course) and the hot water washed over all my muscles and relaxed them. I highly recommend.

This. Hot shower, Nyquil, hot tea, and wash everything. Wash your sheets and pillow covers etc.

youd obviously have to be really sad and spiteful to make a post like this. its not the kind of thing an emotionally aware person would do, its the actions of a damaged or somehow deficient mind. it might help if you took a look at yourself and examined your motives for doing it. I can understand if you dont want to talk about it here, nobody likes to talk about what a horrible place their head is in this kind of environment. but if its ever going to get better in there introspection is the first step.

Are you replying to the right post? What that anon posted doesn't seem like particularly harmful advice. Cold tea might not be too good idk, but is there something wrong with emergen-c or avoiding dairy?
