Does anyone here known of or have any relations that model in Japan?

I have a cousin that may be doing work over there soon and i'm worried if the industry is really as sleazy as i have been told.

Soon to be 16, i've been watching documentaries about the modeling industry over there and one documentary in particular caught my attention.

It's called "Girl Model" and as the name implies it's about 13 year old Russian girls that model in Japan. The documentary itself has an omnious vibe to it. It makes no direct mention of the sexual explotation of the girls there but the directors have hinted at it in interviews.

>"There is that suggestion that something else might be going on - let's leave it at that," Sabin said "You're asking tricky questions. We were in situations that make you extremely uncomfortable as a human being, having to deal with your own ethics as a filmmaker.

>"This was our boot camp. We feel we can make anything now, but we won't make another (film) about the fashion industry."

Basically, i am just really worried.

It all depends on your cousin's country of origin, age, kind of visa, if she's desperate for money and Japan is her last resort or not and the model agency who manages her.

There are many foreigners who do casual model work in Japan, got scouted on the streets while on student or working holiday visas and nothing happens to them. If your cousin is more like the girls mentioned in >>48716, yeah there's a chance she'll land in the sleazy, exploitative part of the modeling industry.

I just read up on the Junior idol culture there and now i seriously don't want her to leave.

Any ideas on how i could convince here?

Is your sister east european?
Can you tell us what agency she's in?

I think you're worrying too much. Most stories I've read come from poor East European models who go to Asia to make some bucks, work under hard conditions and are possibly involved in prostitution.

Modelling sucks in general. You get bragging rights though, which may or may not be worth it to you at the time, but later on they most certainly will not be unless you're a very sad person. No one cares how cute you were at 16 if you're a nothing as an adult.
Unless you get famous, which you won't.

Agreed. Even the supermodels have to go through some weird shit. The fashion world sure attracts some creepos.

I watched that as well, kind of unsettling imo
But yeah, unless you have the specific look that they want, good luck.
