Post costume ideas, aesthetic pics, favorite memories, traditions you have, movies you watch, plans for this year.

If Halloween isn't celebrated in your country, are there other spooky festivals or autumn traditions you're looking forward to?

No. 288415

I'm kind of a hermit so I'm not going out drinking or clubbing in costume, which is the tradition for 20 somethings where I live. There's a broadcast of the Frankenstien play with Johnny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch in a local cinema on Halloween night so I'm going to that dressed as Todd from Bojack Horseman.

I miss being younger around Halloween time. It was one of the few nights of the year where we were allowed to stay up late and that made it really magical. The streets were always packed full of kids and lit up by decorations. Bonfires on every corner with teens drinking and the sound of fireworks going off constantly. I loved the hype my school created by teaching us songs in Irish about Halloween and letting us make ghosts out of tissue to hang on the walls or make art with the confetti that looks like spider webs. I also seriously miss Halloween specials for kids shows like Sabrina or the spooky documentaries they'd show on the educational channels. It was a great feeling to come home with a massive bag of sugar and sneakily watch horror films without my parents permission, back when horror films used to actually scare me. I miss seeing kids dressed in really creative costumes like pirates and butchers and horror film villains.

Now days I still like to dress up in case any kids come to the door but we generally don't get any and I end up eating the sweets myself lol. I normally watch a horror film with my bf and we have a few drinks because there's never anything on tv. There's still something magic in the air around that time, it makes me feel really nostalgic for my childhood and I wish we had kept the tradition up, especially since it's the only true Irish holiday that we still celebrated.

I'm so jealous of everybody who lives in the US (and UK?).
When my friends and I were in elementary school we always saw how amazing Halloween was like from TV shows and movies, so we also wanted to go for trick or treat.
We mostly went to our relatives, but when we did ring at some other houses, the older ones usually had no idea what we even wanted, others didn't have any sweets at home (or at least said so) and one guy straight out said he's going to get his dogs if we don't leave immediately, because he doesn't need this "American shit"…

I'm from Ireland too. I used to love the ceremony of cutting up a barmbrack to see who would get the ring, even though I absolutely hated the taste of it. (wiki link for context: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barmbrack)

Fireworks are illegal here but they get smuggled in around Halloween and New Years. They always start going off wayyy before Halloween though. I saw the first ones of the season tonight.

I usually don't like super common costumes but this one is actually pretty cute and well executed

Every Halloween I eat candy and watch the Classic Disney Halloween trio; Hocus Pocus, Under Wraps, and Halloweentown. Along with actual spooky movies like the original 1978 Halloween.
I hope to do something fun with my bf this year, because last year I accidentally slept through Halloween and he had to work.
Sometimes I do wish I could throw a small Halloween party and make all those cute Halloween themed treats you see on pinterest and shit but I don't think I'd be a very good host and I only have like my bf and best friend to invite lmao.

We don't really celebrate halloween in my country, but we have a couple of costume parties around that time so I'm hoping I get to go this year.
My birthday is also on 31st so I hold a small party for my friends with spooky music and as many halloween decorations as I can find in dollar stores and stuff. We mostly just eat and get drunk tho.
I'm a cosplayer and a goth, but I rarely ever wear a costume. Mostly halloween is an excuse for me to wear my more OTT and obnoxious pieces like full on gothic lolita coords, period clothing or cyber gear. So I think my costume this year will be "drunk vampire" as usual. I just attach those plastic aliexpress costume "bloodbags" to my skirt. It's a good way to smuggle booze into clubs also lmao.

Dia de los Muertos
Festa della Befana
Walpurgis Night
Hop-tu-Naa
Obon
Gai Jatra

All Souls Day
Bonfire Night

>All Souls Day
All Saints' Day is actually closer to Halloween as it's the day after. All Souls' day is 2 november.
It has nothing to do with dressing up or candy though but more with remembering the dead and visiting graves. It used to be a pretty boring holiday for kids (full of grave visiting) until the last years we're getting more influence from the US.

No. 304687

The problem with non-scary costumes is that they're usually a reference to something or a joke or even worse, a pun. It relies on people getting the reference or having to explain the pun/joke to others (thus ruining the joke anyway). I guess the point is to have a wearable conversation starter but nobody else finds them funny. Just the person wearing it.

I'm so happy we're gonna have a new Halloween movie on Halloween. I'm glad Michael Myers is coming back…and I also hope Laurie Strode kills him once for all.

My favorite ridiculous supernatural show is coming back. Midnight, Texas. They have demons, witches, angels, vampires…they had a fuckin weretiger. Tell me that's not fucking hilarious.

Also have you seen the trailer for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina? It looks so good. Just pump that witchy shit into my veins.

My favorite Halloween movie is Trick 'r Treat. It captured the spirit of the Holiday SO well. Tales of Halloween is another recommendation.
I also always build playlists of stuff I think fits Halloween and the October atmosphere in general. So I'm always taking suggestions for that. The FIRST song I always think of in October is Love You To Death by Type O Negative. It's so rainy day autumnal. I remember watching a video on YouTube of the song on clips from Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman. NOTHING has ever fit so well.
Ugh, I fucking love this time.

I'm a friendless shut in and I celebrate Halloween by carving a pumpkin, - the first jack-o-lanterns were carved from turnips if you can't get pumpkins in your country - making seasonal crafts, decorating my house, watching comfy, spooky kids movies like Paranorman and Coraline, burning autumnal scented candles, drinking tea or hot chocolate and eating sweets. It can still be fun by yourself!

I love it too. I don't know if you've seen Over the Garden Wall but it's nice and gets the autumn feels down well in my opinion.

Anyway, all October I only watch horror movies and read horror books (basically a ton of Stephen King). On Halloween my husband and I carve pumpkins and since this is the first time we're in a house I hope we get some trick-or-treaters coming by.

I kind of want to do a costume like the kid in front, both because I like old Halloween imagery and because I'm cheap/lazy and have a lot of burlap fabric hanging around. Plus I feel like there's a strange eeriness to costumes like that.
