What do you farmers like to do when you get a long break?

I've just started summer break, which will carry on till late September when I start uni, so there's a lot of time to fill.
I don't want to waste any of it so, apart from outings with friends, I plan to paint, sew, read, improve my Russian and go on nice walks, but specifically I don't know where to begin. A job would be nice too.

What about you?

Trying to improve my French. I just signed up to Duolingo, so fingers crossed.

I love art, so I'm probably going to take some photos to use as references. I also want to get better at watercolours because I've focused too much on pencils, ink and pastels.

I'm going running more regularly than I did while at uni. I want to do more strength training too.

I volunteer every summer, usually as a lifeguard and/or at a dog shelter. There's programs where you can go to a different country and volunteer, and in some, all you have to pay for is the plane ticket - they pay for everything else. I don't know much about that but a lot of my friends do it.

You could learn a new instrument, you can buy some pretty cheap or rent some. You could even take music lessons.

Swimming, hiking, rock climbing, fishing, just skating or biking - there's lots of things to do outside. Catching lightning bugs and watching the stars at night is always nice.

Sewing mostly. I don't take my machine with me to college so I do it over the summer

I want to get better at watercolours too, and really get the hang of it. YouTube channels like 'Mind of Watercolour' seem really informative about basics. What kind of art are you drawn to making?

I've honestly been wasting a ton of time this summer. I've done a bit of drawing with my new tablet and playing my guitar a bit but it's been mostly watching Youtube videos, movies, anime (more as a way to bond with my friends and little brother than anything, I don't watch it much on my own), and browsing various websites. I was going to get a job and start going on runs but that never panned out. You guys sound so mature T_T

Im going to try getting more fit by jogging and dieting. Im also going to learn to program in Java and C++ and hopefully start a project soon. I also really want to improve my art skills so ill be attending some life drawing sessions at a local college.

Honestly depends on the medium. I love huge landscapes when I'm using soft pastels because the build up is incredibly satisfying. If it's ink, it's more illustrations. Stuff like pencils and charcoal is what I use for more realism. Everything I do in watercolour is a misshapen blob lmao.

>I want to get better at watercolours too

Are you starting out with watercolour or just improving on existing skills?

Thanks for the channel rec, I needed it!

I'm in the same boat as you. Not working this summer and don't start school again until September.

I've spent the summer volunteering at our local animal shelter, improving my drawing skills, watching anime and sleeping in late. Feels good, man.

You can try volunteering somewhere, anon, loads of places want someone. And it's never too late to go on runs! To be honest, I hate running, but I go bike-riding regularly. Bike-riding is so much more enjoyable than running, you'll actually look forward to it.

I'm thinking about volunteering at a shelter or something. And I totally forgot that I have a bike, anon! I never ride it because my dad bought it without any input from me so it's a really girly cruiser but I'm past caring at this point.

Is riding while listening to music a good idea? I'd mostly be riding in residential areas (think streets with houses on one side and huge empty fields of grass on the other) so traffic wouldn't be a problem. I just don't know how safe it would be.

Don't listen to music while riding a bike. It's unsafe - cars can sneak up on you (even in places without a lot traffic) and your hearing is the only thing that can detect it.

Honestly, you won't even need music. Running is boring, so I can understand why someone would listen to music while doing it but with biking, it's not necessary. Biking and taking in the scenery around you is enough. My mind is so clear at the end of each ride.

Biking does get boring if it's your main form of transportation and you have to take the same route everyday.

Interesting! It sounds like you do a lot of cool stuff!

I'm trying to improve on existing skills with watercolour, if they can be called that! I get misshapen blobs too, and while I'm okay using other mediums, especially oil, watercolour just hasn't 'clicked'.
Hopefully I get somewhere practising it this summer.

You're welcome for the channel recommendation, i hope it helps!

Wouldn't listening to music without headphones be a good alternative then? Like, you're on a bike so you can keep your cellphone near your ears and use the speakers without bothering people. And you'd be able to hear the cars.
