I'm in my mid twenties now and I still don't have work. I'm just feeling really bummed about of the interviews that go nowhere and the constant rejection..All I want to do is save some money so I can move out, pay my student debt off and be independent….

I thought we could have a thread where we talk about about job hunting woes, etc.

Please no camming or sugar daddy suggestions, please :(

Well let's start with asking what profession are you trying to get into? Are you applying for career jobs or just some part time/full time work at a store.

Either way you should build a good resume with great contacts. Put your volunteer work or any skills you think would apply to the job. If you have professors you're still in touch with you can do some quick volunteer work for them and talk in up on your resume.

If you haven't volunteered yet you should so it's not just I graduated college and that's it. Go to a church? At least do one event and just say you volunteer at your church you don't gotta say you only did it once.

I studied fashion (design) and I live in a major city. I would like to say more but I don't want to give away too much about myself right now >_< I'm basically looking for any kind of work, mostly been trying stuff related to my field, but I can't land anything. I'm just looking for something so I can have a stable income.

I do have a decent resume, it was checked over by several people. I even went to a job agency and they said it was great as well..I do have some experience over the past few years but I never went through the job hunting/interview process until about a year ago. Out of 10 applications I get at least 2 interviews, so I don't think its that bad?

I am certain at this point that it just comes down to whether or not the interviewer/hiring manager likes you or not and wants to see you 40+ hrs a week, nothing to do with your credentials. And apparently no one likes me enough. I know I'm perfectly capable and qualified of doing the job, I'm not an idiot ;_;.

And yes, I'm shy and introverted but I'm not so awkward that I can't handle an interview, and I have been improving this past year. :(

Sorry to be so negative..its just that i've taken every kind of advice and I've realized all this interview and job hunting stuff is just subjective and out of my control.

What kind of low level part time jobs are there where you can work from home? I worked my butt off for 2 years in a customer service type job and now I hate people. For the last few months I'd been going to school full time and babysitting, but now both have kinda tailed off and my mother has been hinting for me to start working part time again.

If you look up work from home jobs the most popular things that seem to come up are freelance writing and virtual assistants. You'll start out at a lower salary though until you build up a client base and experience.

Translation, ghostwriting, editing, transcription. I do all of them (not at once kek) and they nicely supplement my income. You also get to dress like a hobo while you work, since no one will see you, which is nice.

I'm sorry I'm replying so late I've been busy!

If you're in a creative career path in sorry to say but networking is kinda everything. It is semi a favorite's thing but you also have to be good of course. If your resume is as good as you say you shouldn't settle quite just yet. Try apply to high class retail stores and in the meantime network and find job openings!

Can you elaborate on how you get into this kind of work, what the pay is like, tips, etc?

I'm have a fixed income and can't work due to a disability but have a family to support. Being able to do something like that on the side would be so helpful.

I ended up getting a job at a grocery store after a year of searching. I kept going to interviews and constantly getting rejected or my applications being turned down.

The only way I ended up getting this job is that I knew 3 people that worked at this store and telling the manager that I am ALWAYS available.

That's literally how I got my job. I basically said on the applications I can work anytime except Saturday's. Low and behold I got the job just like that.

I've been trying for a few years now. Yeah I'm a loser neet since I moved but I used to attend an international school in Europe and I have some volunteering. I'm bilingual and literally have all the time in the world. It makes me feel like shit being a legal adult and in my last year of highschool and not being able to get hired for a shitty minimum wage job. I would do anything. I have so much availability, I'm shy around people my age but with strangers I always put on a smile. Is there anything I can do to stand out from the crowd? I guess the real problem is that there's 5 times more people than available jobs so it's hard. Only had a few interviews and one of them lied to me about offering me a cashier position. I keep handing out resumes but I guess I had shit timings, especially since I apparently can never catch managers when they're in. Any tips or words to use? I don't know many people since I never grew up here and I feel like connections are the way to get jobs around here.

Sorry for the long post, it was a bit of a vent for me. I want so desperately to get a job and work long hours. I really need to start saving up money. I feel like I should have been considered more by now since you don't need much experience for minimum wage jobs and I have a lot of free time

I was unable to get hired anywhere until I was 19, and even then I think a large part is because my mom knew one of the people who had worked there for ages. (I had a panic attack and missed my first interview and he made sure I got another one) It is also only part time seasonal on top of that.
No one wanted to take a chance on an inexperienced kid when an adult with years of work history was applying to the same menial job. It sucked a lot. I really empathize with you on this.

Try doing research on the place you are hiring at. Most managers love it when a person takes the time to get to know the back ground of the place, especially if it is a small/local business.

I'm the OP and I kind of have to agree, as someone who is 25 this year and in the same position as you are. I wish someone explained to me about student loans and debt at your age. >_< I didn't know anything about it and went to a shitty private college that left me in loan debt. I was a loser neet for a long time, super shy and depressed and wasted so many years. And now I feel like I have to keep "running" to catch up with other people my age..Thats my fault.. But seriously, you have nothing to worry about, the fact that you're actively looking for work is already a great thing..something is eventually going to come up for you if you keep looking. Sorry to come off as super cliche but you're really young and have a lot of time D:

I do have friends and connections but even with that, its still difficult. I have tried high end retail stores, but it seems they're always looking for someone with tons of selling experience since many of them are commission based. I've been seeing the same positions being reposted over time, as if they weren't getting filled. I feel like people don't trust each other and won't welcome newcomers unless they can be or are already friends with them..in that case why even put a job listing in the first place. >_> However I will just keep trying and see what happens..

Yeah, now they are working me almost full time.
It sucks but at least I have the job now.
