I feel like this thread has been made before but here goes…

I've been lurking for a bit and noticed quite a few people shop from Taobao, I've bought clothes from Chinese resellers on eBay and have always been disappointed. I'm planning on getting a few basic things from Taobao like face masks and wooden beads to make jewellery but I'd also want to get a few basic things like sweaters as well. Is there a strategy to getting things that don't completely suck or should I just skip?

Never order something that doesn't have tons of customer pictures and reviews.

Honestly, from someone who has ordered from Chinese retailers/AliExpress quite a bit, it is best never to have high expectations about what you order. It avoids too much disappointment when what you receive isn't 100% like the photos. It is mostly cheap stuff, so there is bound to be a few letdowns here and there.

Sellers also steal stock photos, so keep that in mind. Pretty sure that photo of the dress was originally stolen from somewhere else.

Reading feedback for products also helps tremendously. People are quick to say if something is complete junk or fits like shit. You can do this for Taobao or eBay, but you will need to use Feedback Selector for eBay to see just the feedback for just one item.

Wow, I didn't know you could do this for Ebay. Thanks for the tip anon.

It's the OP btw, I've had this jumper saved for quite a while. It's made of cotton and it's not dirt cheap so the photo miiiight be legit. I'm still super hesitant about getting it though. Also as expected the model and I don't have the exact same body type. http://www.yesstyle.com.au/en/click-cotton-crew-neck-sweatshirt/info.html/pid.1045269464#productPageSectionTop

I'm an East Asian girl with a small frame so I usually don't have sizing problems (i.e. things being too small for me) as all the clothes come from Asian countries anyway. Obviously I've been disappointed by clothing quality, material, durability etc. but I guess I'm a bit braver with buying things because I don't have sizing issues in the way. When I'm bothered/really committed to getting something nice that looks exactly the photo I'll check the seller, reviews, ratings, similar listings etc. but if not I'll just order it. It's usually dirt cheap so even if it sucks you only lose like $10.

My frame is pretty small overall so I'm not too worried about not being able to fit stuff (as far as tops go), I'm just worried about how the cut of it will look on my bod overall since I got pretty thick legs and wide hips and i'm worried it might look weird on me.

Yeah I mostly order standard shirts and underwear from Chinese retailers since you can't in all seriousness expect a $4 wooly jacket to be exactly like in the stolen photo. It's better to stick with the clothes that aren't very hard to fuck up.

Yeah I'd never get things like jackets from ebay now. I'm really into branded things lately so for important things like jackets I'd spend more money on them

I played this game for years and eventually I realized it just wasn't worth it. I never got a single thing that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED because nothing looked like the photo, or if it did, the fabric was weird. Accessories are usually OK.

Same for me except when I ordered from Artka
