I had to cut off a friend earlier this year, partly because she was getting pretty lolcow-y. Her alcoholism was getting worse, she got a bunch of shitty body mods, and she refused to get any counselling or therapy for her mental problems. From what I've heard tangentially and seen her post online she hasn't turned things around for the better yet. She still goes out drinking every week and she's getting more and more terrible tattoos.

So I was wondering - does anyone here have any personal or tangential experience where they've seen a lolcow turn their life around? Not just some weird outlier, but like, sustainable, long-term change. The only signs that really come to mind for me would be like, seeing them finish a degree, or earn and hold onto a really good job, or lose a bunch of weight. Apart from that I can't imagine anything concrete that would really convince me someone troubled like this had suddenly got their act together.

Does it happen often or do people like this just stay the same for years and decades?

So, you were friends with Charms basically.

You've made the right decision now keep going forward and don't look back. She's not going to improve. I'm sorry you've lost a friend.

I keep up with Lotte every now and then. Definitely eerily similar. They both probably have serious BPD

Thanks for saying that, I know you're right but it still hurts.

I watched one of my dearest friends from high school selfdestruct for years before giving up on her. Only stuck with her so long since I respected her parents and one was terminally ill–once that parent died I washed my hands of her. Last I heard of her a mutual friend sent me a link to a photographer's expose on homelessness and there was my former friend with dirt on her gaunt face. Shit's terrible to see. I wish her well, but I couldn't care about her anymore after all the shit she pulled. If we were ten years younger and growing up with tumblr I'm sure she would've been a lolcow.

That's one of the worst things I've ever heard. I'm sure in 2015 she'd have some terrible passive agressive tumblr. She still doesn't deserve that tough a life, though. Hope she gets things together in the long run.
