No. 1879

I am not in London but I am in the UK.

I am going through London on the 20th though and I have to use the underground for the first time twice and I am positively shitting myself. I don't even know how to find the damn thing after I get off the train.

Londoners halp pls.

No. 1880

The underground is super easy once you realise that you only have to worry about going east/west or north/south. Once you find where you want to go on the map you have a 50/50 chance of choosing the right direction.

If you can do buses and national rail you can do the underground no problem. Even if you make a mistake it's only going to cost you 5 minutes whereas if you get on a wrong bus you are totally fucked.

No. 1881

>>1880

Okay a few people have told me that which is slightly more reassuring.
What I want to know is whether it's easy to find the underground stations from the train station.

The instructions I have for my journey are:

"From Kings Cross St Pancras Underground Station take the Victoria Line (Southbound, Platform 4) which is a direct service to Victoria Underground Station."

But I only have 15 minutes to find the station and board my train. Is this doable? Like will the underground be obvious to me when I get off my train?

No. 1883

St Pancras and Victoria both connect to the tube so you just have to follow the signs in the stations.

But 15 mins isn't a lot of time. Your train could be 5 mins late, you might have to queue for 2 mins to get a tube ticket, some of the stations are huge so there's probably like 5-10 mins of walking, and of course the tube ride itself is probably 5-10 mins.

On the other hand your train might arrive early and the other train might wait if it's a common transfer.

No. 1884

>>1883

Oh right well I already have tickets, but thanks so much for your advice, it's definitely put my mind at ease.

I am making 8 different changes that day and travelling from 7:49 until 23:51 so fingers crossed all goes smooth, although know the English rail lines something will probably be delayed for 3 months or just outright explode.

No. 1897

>>1881

Are you getting in to King's Cross or St Pancras? And which line? If you're getting in on the Eurostar that's easier. I go through both very often (eastcoast to Kings Cross then to the Southeastern platforms at St Pancras) and also use he tube there a lot. AMA

I think it's easier to just upload the little timetable I made.

No. 1900

You have loads of time to get the tube. You could even walk those distances if you were feeling lucky.

Don't worry about leaving and arriving times for the tube. In Zone 1 they come and go every 2-5 minutes so it's not worth even writing down.

One thing about Euston is make sure you get off at "Euston" and not "Euston Square". Euston is the big station and the tube exits right in the middle of it, whereas Euston Square is like 5 minutes walk down the road.

Now I haven't been to London for years, but I used to get the train into London after school to go to concerts and then get the last train out and it was always through Euston. I did it like every month or two for four years.

I think these photos are/were accurate and this is what I mean by "tube exits right in the middle of it".

That BK is just excellently placed. You can order and then take a few steps back and watch the timetable while they make your order. If your train is about to leave you just abandon your order but I never had to do that.

There's some really nice toilets in Euston too but they were either 20p or £2 to get into, all I remember is "2".

I was actually on the tube in Euston on 21/07/05 if anyone wants a story from that.

Maybe other anons can do St Pancras or Victoria but I think they're a much longer trek between the tube and national rail.

Thanks with everybody that helped me with the advice on going through London.
I went on my little trip yesterday and everything went well aside from the timetables being updated without prior notice which ended with all my trains changing their platform.

You're right that it is easy, there were signs every where. London is still scary though, butI just wanted to say thanks :-) x

I made a Zeemaps for us.

Basically you just find where you are on the map and put a little pin in it. You can enter contact information like a throwaway email or something if you're interested in some kind of meetup.

Sometimes it's just fun to find out if there's others close to you.
