I literally just sat here and rolled my eyes, since that's everyone's 'motivation' these days is to go to Japan either for anime/japanese girls or guys or aidoru work.

But if I MUST be honest then, I don't even know anymore. I feel like a weeb if I admit what I want to go Japan for and kinda disheartened if I didn't.

To sum it up: Just to see what it's like

Honestly, I find it creepy that people want a significant other directly from Japan or South Korea and not just in their own home country if they can find them (not saying thats your case OP). They get there and become enfatuated with the culture for a bit, but then reality hit and they begin to complain. The vast majority seem to want to turn their East Asian bf or gf into someone more like from their own culture, telling them how things are done where they live or how they're very uncomfortable with something that is part of Japanese culture.

I find that so disrespectful because these foreigners are in their country yet want to dictate how they should act/behave personality and culturally wise.

There is a difference between I want you to be more affectionate and asking that person to be okay with pda and constantly saying "I love you"

When I was a teenager I was an absolute weeaboo and wanted to go to Japan. It wasn't so much anime that vexed me, but I always wanted to visit the shrines, attend the festivals, and do food touring. Then when I got older and found out they were xenophobes anyway, and basically treat foreigners like circus peanut freaks. It made me more apprehensive.

When I used to browse PT threads on cgl some anons brought up that PT could go on to teach in Japan since she got her BA. I looked into that (since I have an MA now) but I've read a couple bad experiences. I had a costa rican friend from college (MtF) who went to Japan and while she enjoyed the trip, folks treated her differently and the language was troubling. Their teaching placement was so awful/incompatible that she didn't last there for more than a year iirc.
Sometimes people aren't placed in trendy cities, but rather in rural bumfuck noplaces where it's boring, learning the language is more of a necessity, and people just aren't nice.
Oh and on top of that I have no idea if my boyfriend would be able to move with me, probably not since we're not married and he has yet to get a passport.
