I tried to read the Twilight saga when my friend bought the books when they came out. My mom even read them with her so I was excited since we kind of did young adult fiction book club unofficially, but every time I'd try to read it it felt like I was reading something written by someone who hadn't finished college. I don't know if I'm describing this the right way, but it was written in such a sloppy manner that I couldn't get past the first few chapters. I watched the movies later and found them to be extremely dull as well. I only watched because Rami Malek is in them.

Death Stranding
>but it gets good after 12 hours in! You're just impatient!
1: not really. It goes from utter fucking borefest to just mediocre.
2: even if it did, that wouldn't be a valid excuse. If I wanted to watch shitty arthouse movies, I'd watch shitty arthouse movies. I'd get the same experience and those would be cheaper and shorter.

I had a gift card long ago from my previous company that was about to expire right before games I was waiting for were released so I bought three games at the time including Dragon Quest 11. It was so boring I couldn't make it past the prologue. I think I stopped playing after the MC and the guy with spiky blue hair escape prison and jump off a cliff to avoid being captured. I looked up what the story was about, saw it was very generic and boring as well and sold my copy of the game. I know the whole point of the series is to be the blueprint for JPRGs so it was going to be a generic game anyway but the battle system was nothing to write about, unless I missed something that happens later and that make battles a lot more fun. If the timing were a bit better I would have ordered another game instead.

british soap operas. casts of borderline retarded characters getting into bullshit drama, shot and edited in a way that seems designed to lobotomise the viewers. if they embraced the fact that they're pure shit and went for a full spectacle i'd forgive them, but soaps are hung up on being a kind of public service/social good that raises awareness of whatever issues the writers have chosen to plod through that week, so fat chance of them actually trying to entertain you over the preaching. drives me up the fucking wall that I have to watch them while visiting family.

Star Wars. I watch so many movies, but I have never been able to finish a single Star Wars movie in my life. So many people have thought they could "turn me" and have forced me to try watching it with them, but I always end up falling asleep. It is genuinely the most boring piece of media to me and I'm starting to believe some people only say they like them out of some sort of nerd snobbery.

I found Baldur’s Gate really, really, really fucking boring. I wish I didn’t spend $60 on it just because I got swept up in the hype.

People literally only like Star Wars for nostalgia reasons. I’m a complete unapologetic Star Wars freak and I know they are mid. They are goofy kids movies and nothing more

No. 515232

I like Star Wars but I really didn't get the hype for a bunch of the more recent TV shows like Andor and Ahsoka. There are so many drawn out shots of people just standing around and talking about junk nobody cares about and the characters are deeply uninteresting. Even when there's a high stakes situation I'm just thinking so what, let him die lol. Mandalorian was the only one that I liked.
I think it might be like >>515226 says, they always worked best as wacky space fights for kids and the new stuff trying to be all serious and emotional just falls flat. They're very obviously trying to capitalize on nostalgia from a more mature audience but it just doesn't work for me because I don't want to watch "old iconic character reflects on themes of war trauma with a team of literal whos", I want to see wacky space fights

I don't remember ANYTHING from the Star Wars movies but they were a big deal when I as in middle/elementary school, so it was always things like bday parties at a movie screening or trying to be the first kid to see one of the prequel movies when it premiered. But a couple years ago when I told my mom I didn't actually care about the movies that much she said she hated having to watch them at the theater because they were so boring kek

I liked the setting and the driving and the music and the overall production value, but yeah the characters all felt like stock photos. I never beat it and don't feel inspired to. The sequel is being made by an American branch of CDPR, which I am actually quite intrigued by. I feel like Americans are best equipped to make satire about themselves tbh.

Ive only watched one Star Wars movie years ago, so I cant really say, but I've always found the scifi genre as a whole boring. I was always more of a fantasy person. I guess its also that I just find scifi aesthetics cold and harsh whereas fantasy settings feel warm and cozy.

It's funny when you're 12 years old and that's the target audience. I loved FMA, the manga and the first anime, as a kid and the manga ended when I was in my first or second year of high school. I think I would have a very different opinion if I decided to read it again now as a adult, especially because what made me love it was how mysterious everything was and how you slowly get more and more explanations and plot twists. I guess it would be as boring as reading an intense murder mystery a second time when you still remember who the culprit is.

I also found these books to be the most boring ones in the series but I still liked them enough to continue. I liked the last book a lot so that's a good thing, I'm just still mad I saw out of context spoilers a few days before it was released. I didn't watch all the movies, the 4th one didn't adapt everything like I wanted to and all the guys had horrible haircuts so I gave up on the movies.

Inception - was so underwhelmed by this film, genuinely felt like it lasted for 4 hours.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, didn't see the rest. It was the first time I fell asleep at the cinema, The Dark Knight Rises was the second. The scene with dwarves barging in Bilbo's house was funny but I don't remember much after. To be fair, I drank wine right before the movie, but I was never even curious about the other films even though I really loved the book as a kid. I didn't like that they made some dwarves so "sexy", plus they changed the story, and it was so unnecessary. I didn't drink before The Dark Knight Rises so there're no excuses for this snoozefest.
Blade runner 2049 - to be honest, I didn't even see it fully, only the last third part on tv, just recently. It was plain boring, nothing more to add.

The Master and Margarita by Bulgakov. I liked some parts, mostly with Behemoth the cat and Korovyev, but the rest was so underwhelming. I expected so much more. First time I read it, I skipped over the parts with Yeshua entirely. Second time, I had to read it because it was for school. I didn't care for Margarita and the Master at all. It was a long time ago but I highly doubt that my perception would change.

Skyrim - it's just dungeons full of skeletons and it's so dull. I didn't finish the game.

Lana Del Rey - it's not that I don't listen to anything slow or melancholic, but her music is an absolute snoozefest. Surely I don't like a lot of other music, but I wouldn't even mention it if she wasn't so popular. I genuinely don't get it. The sound of her phlegmatic voice makes me want to roll my eyes every time I hear it.

I didn't like the Master and Margarita either, nona. I could see why it was such a loved reactionary book (and why it was overblown by 2016 tumblr hipsters) but I couldn't power through it. It was so deeply boring to me, despite being able to understand what made it good. I didn't find its irony charming and I think everyone praising its whimsy probably flew over the implied bleak parts. The fact that it was distributed underground is impressive however, with Bulgakov hiding the manuscripts in his walls I think.

To that I raise you One Hundred Years of Solitude. I have never met one person who has finished this book. Despite its beauty it was so profoundly boring to me, almost like its artistry couldn't quite make up for its pointlessness. Maybe I just didn't get it, because I know this book is important to a lot of people, but I've seriously never met anyone who finished it let alone liked it. Unlike The Master I genuinely can't tell what people like about this book except the prose and maybe LatAm nostalgia. Such a beautiful title wasted on such a droning book.

I also find Lana boring, but in this repetitive, same-old way. It's all about being young and pretty and desired and having a geriatric boyfriend. Whatever. This dynamic and delusional self-perception always felt so insecure and boring to me, I couldn't even waste my time disliking it. It honestly meant nothing to me.

I really wonder if Dragon Quest woulf have been as popular as in Japan if it were released in the West earlier and with better localizations. Your point is true, Japanese people buy these games as soon as they're released because of nostalgia and it reminded me of Pokemon's success and how everyone will buy the games day one despite the gameplay never changing too much for each mainline game. I played all main Pokemon games and several spinoffs and I admit nostalgia helps a lot when the introductions get longer and longer before I get to play however I want in more recent games, I wasn't biased like this with Dragon Quest so I didn't feel like forcing myself to play until it gets better. I saw someone calling Dragon Quest comfort food for it's older fans before.

as a long time DQ enjoyer, i agree you have to be in certain mindset to enjoy it. for me, i associate it with childhood adventures and such. besides, i adore the sense of humor and lightness the series has. it's very old school narratively-wise. i guess it never caught up on western territories because when RPGs got popular in the late 90s, DQ7 pretty much arrived DOA, with its quirks and long ass 100hrs of gameplay. tbh, i found out lately that i enjoy slow/leisurely paced rpgs, as i tried getting back into Xenoblade and it pretty much fried my brain.

No. 516590

>>516589
That's funny, I enjoyed Xenoblade 1 just fine and loved Xenoblade 2. I don't plan on playing the 3rd game, my backlog of games is too long for that. I don't mind generic stories and settings but yeah I did find the intro of DQ11 slow as hell and the battles weren't any better so it's really a matter of personal tastes. It was also the same for Golden Sun, I wanted it on the GBA as a kid but didn't have a GBA and when I had a DS I didn't find the game anywhere, I bought a second hand copy way later as an adult and found everything too boring. The battles themselves were fun but Ibalso lost patience with the random encounters in general. I can only deal with them with series I already like or if the games are old enough that it doesn't feel like I'm being harassed literally every two steps.

No. 516594

nona, i loved Xeno 1 (the Definitive edition is excellent) and 3, but is a completely different vibe from DQ. as you say, they are slow games. and for anyone who just wants to play a game for an hour or so, no one can be arsed to wait 2 or so hours until you get a sliver of entertainment out of it. DQ11 made me cry like a baby on game reset, so that means you need to play it twice (!!) to get the whole package, and that's around 110hrs. that's clearly no instant satisfaction, as none of the elements of the game (story, combat, etc) caters to that. as for Golden Sun, i liked the second one better for some reason? they are very similar to Lufia, Lufia 2 being one of my fave rpgs of all time. it's very "go from town to dungeon to town etc etc" type of game, but i think the appeal of the first one might be that the characters are more on the lawful heroic type than the second one.
