I like a lot of stuff about this game. It reminds me of those free Newgrounds flash point and click horror games from the mid 2000s/2010s just from general appearances. It's got a lot of tweaked actual photos of real life objects and places kek, and I find that charming. I also like that it's incredibly forgiving for a horror game. You make a mistake, get a bad end, and then get sent right back to where you made said mistake so you can try again. It really adds to the learning/translation gameplay, imo, because you start to pick up more context clues. If you were dumb like me, you gave Mr. Gap your heart the first time around. I also like that you can go back and change your dictionary at any time and specifically go back in the log to see any changes to dialog from new words you learned. I like the ambiguity of meaning, too, because it reflects IRL vocabulary and speech while also giving you some interesting interpretations in gameplay. I translated the word 'object' as 'treasure' because I thought it referred only to things from the human world and that maybe they were being pointed out because they had some kind of value. It's pretty rewarding to reload an earlier scene and suddenly understand what they're saying to each other. There's a lot of telegraphing, once you've got a good word base, and that's super helpful in continuing to fill your dictionary. Just keep building and building on prior knowledge, which is pretty cool! Never really played a game like this.

I actually enjoyed the language decoding aspect a lot, the game uses a lot of visual storytelling and atmosphere so it's not all just reading runes. Also, you get to replay the game and see how scenes played out differently after completing the dictionary. Even if you're not into monster boys or yume it's a really creative game and seems to have a lot of heart!

I'm sick and like torturing myself, so I'm exploring the idea that the Reunion ending actually isn't a happy ending. Because we see the blood on the floor, and the camera angle seems like we're laying on the floor and not standing up, and then it fades out to black and zooms downwards and "I'm home". I think we died, and near-death hallucinatory delirious brain gave us flashbacks and happy memories in the form of meeting the four of them before we died so. It seems way too good. I mean, realistically, the chances of the four of them meeting us at the elevator, same place, same time, is very slim. Plus how much time passed in the otherworld while we were gone? Mr Chopped was smiling like it was just yesterday, which makes me even more suspicious. We didn't even say a word to him in the other world's language about our concerns over him being hurt last time, so how did he know to say "problem not here/gone"? It's probably our brain imagining a world where everything went fine kek.
