>>460600i have so many thoughts lol, i'll keep it contained and just try to answer your questions for now (also let me know your own thoughts!)
so i dropped out a few years ago around the time Prime was still airing. i thought the premise of Prime started interesting, but the need to maintain status quo like most western cartoons got me bored and eventually i just dropped the whole fandom. got back into it recently because of TFOne which i thought was gonna be a trainwreck, but was actually super cool! i really liked it! its a basic story, but i loved the visuals, i loved how down to earth it kept itself, and the voice acting was really good despite it being mostly celebrities (will never warm up to scarjo tho). decided that i wanted to dip my toes back in the fandom and within 3 weeks id read all of the 2005 idw run, phase 1 2 and 3 (holy fuck the crossovers were ASS) with some mixed feelings, but overall liking it. also decided to start reading the skybound comics and checked out bumblebee 2016 and rise of the beasts. so ive roughly seen: maybe half of G1?, beast wars, all of animated, s1 of prime, the first 3 bayformer films, tfone, bumblebee 2016, rotb, read idw and am reading skybound as it releases. gonna watch the rest of the bayverse films and the 2019 idw run, and was considering watching cyberverse. earthspark seemed to have a promising s1, but then i heard it exploded in retardation and retcons. no interest in the animes or the older comics tbh.
since im a basic bitch, starscream is my favorite character. but my tastes also change between continuities, so there are characters i really like in one universe but dont care in others. however, overall, id say these are my favorite characters (in no order): jazz, megatron, rodimus, prowl, tarn, rung, skywarp, thundercracker, optimus, perceptor, blurr, sunstreaker, sideswipe, knock out, wheeljack, drift, pharma, whirl and there's probably more.

>>460748>id love to hear more about why you like them!If I'm being entirely honest, I think a lot of it just comes down to the fact that I thought they looked really cool. I liked my robots to be robotic.
They both had their own agendas in the comics but I kind of liked that, in the old cartoon, they were both depicted as mostly just loyal soldiers of Megatron. A lot of the Decepticons were pretty much just depicted as standard self-serving assholes in the original series and I found them kind of interesting, not necessarily 'evil' but loyal soldiers on the other side of the war. I've always had a bit of a fascination with characters like that.
>i havent touched the marvel comics cuz i heard theres a ton of crossovering with other ipsIt's been a long time but, if I am remembering correctly, TFUK (Marvel) had a brief crossover with GI Joe that lasted a few issues and the only crossover I can remember the US Marvel Transformers having was with SpiderMan for a single issue. Shit, it's been a long time but I remember that as both series progressed the focus shifted more and more to the Transformers and less to the human (presumed POV) characters.
Still, art and presentation has changed a lot over the years and it's hardly a condemnation of your character if you just don't like the old 80's 90's comic book style, some of the new designs are pretty cool but I'm old and am used to characters looking a certain way.
> i wish theyd let peter cullen voice act an actual gentle optimus againI'd love that, probably because I watched the cartoons as a kid I've always thought of Optimus as a superhero. Cullen does great work and really commits to the tragic soldier side of Prime but I'd love to see some straight up Superman style cheese. I thought tfone was fun too, especially liked the visual direction of the environments and Quintessons, and it was a pretty charming film in general.
>holy fuck the crossovers were ASSYeah I had loads of fun reading idw back in the day, but man I hated whenever there was a crossover or other derailing event issue kek– why must western/American comics pull this shit? Probably isn't so bad to read through now, but was disruptive af when the comic was still coming out. Agree on the mixed feelings though– the 2005 idw run certainly has its highs and lows, though it definitely has some of my favourite content for certain characters and was generally a lot of fun… if a little retarded in places lmao.
I still need to catch up on the non-Bay live action films lol, and I will argue that TFP finds its feet in the second season somewhat (and then loses them once it needed to introduce stuff for new toys)… though I haven't rewatched it in years so it might not hold up. Cyberverse is something lol. I checked out a bit of Earthspark, and season 1 had a few neat ideas and some nice 3D and 2D animation in places, but yeah iirc the entire creative team changed between s1 and s2 and it went to shit. Was neat to see the 'autobot Megatron' concept escape the comics though– it's interesting to see what parts of the franchise end up influencing newer projects.

I absolutely despise Simon Furman and his treatment of female transformers, particularly Arcee
In the Marvel comics, he gave Arcee an origin in which she was built from Optimus Primes "rib" to appease strawman "angry feminists"
In the IDW1 spotlight "Arcee", he gave "Arcee" an even more offensive origin in which "she" was originally a male transformer who was forcefully transitioned into a "female" transformer (how the fuck can sexless robots transition?)
So this "Arcee" isnt even actually Arcee this is some male transformer wearing her face and her pink paint job (ew gross)
And of course the TIM fans found this "transphobic" (because they find everything transphobic. even the things in favor of them) so later they hired some self proclaimed "lesbian" TIM who later retconned "Arcee"s origin and turned "her" into a TIM "lesbian" and added two more annoying TIM "lesbian" characters (this whole saga felt so offensive and lesbophobic as fuck to actual lesbians tbh. just nerd scrotes fetishizing lesbianism)

Would be interesting to see where they'd take it– my guess is diverting the 'bot vs 'con war in favour of cybertronians vs quintessons, or maybe end up in a similar position with the factions as that War for Cybertron show Rooster Teeth did (hopefully much better though kek). Honestly don't really care so long as they do fun things with the characters and world and don't rush straight to Earth/humans.
What were some of your favourite parts of IDW? Anything in particular you didn't like? I've been meaning to do a full re-read of the run myself (realised the other day that I could only strongly remember MTMTE and adjacent stuff lol)
Sad to hear the non-Bay LA films are on the meh side– I know Bayverse itself is trash, but I kinda love its retarded, high-budget crackfic-vibe nonsense all the same.
Yeah, I wouldn't say that I
love any particular female transformers (although I somehow failed to mention Nickel last time, who is up there kek, and I also enjoyed the ones you listed) either, but I can confidently say that I like or enjoy quite a few of them (which is more than I can say for many other franchises/media) and that they're getting closer and closer to writing female transformers that I could adore. >>462436>Why do certain retards despise women in Transformers?I used to be one of those retards, still am to a certain degree, and can provide an unsatisfactory answer. For me at least it probably came down to a 50/50 split of resistance to change and good old-fashioned hatred of all things outwardly feminine. I was used to all the Transformers being male and to my thinking at the time 'sexless' so on a certain level I found the introduction of female transformers kind of jarring and also sort of personally insulting, like I was being very poorly pandered to. I suppose my opinion on them was probably not too far off from how some fans feel towards human characters, they were not really my interest and I resented their presence. Pretty neutral on female transformers these days, though I viscerally hated Arcee when I was a kid.
I won't dispute the position being called retarded, I think I mostly held on to it out of stubborn immaturity and it is the kind of thing that should be grown out of with time. Screaming into the void and demanding that the entire world complies with my personal preferences is rather a silly way to live.
>As a Beast Wars watcher when I was a kid and later learning the writing team had to fight tooth and nail to even be allowed to have female characters in the showFunny enough, I was never bothered by the female robots in Beast Wars and kind of liked Blackarachnia. Best retroactive explanation I can pull out of my arse is that animal themed transforming robots having sexual dimorphism didn't feel like as much of a stretch.

They were just kind of there, like a background element to the characters I did enjoy (which tbh was also the norm in my experience for a lot of female cartoon characters at the time, I mostly only found women in books that I actually liked as much as many male characters, but things have improved since). I do like that female transformer designs aren't as rigidly locked into looking like slim robotic women now, and that they aren't limited into being 'the girl' archetype much anymore. It's not perfect, but I'll take it (not a fan of the whole disaster with IDW Arcee obviously, and hope future media steers clear of repeating that mess kek)

Her design was ugly and her personality was bad and nothing like the actual Elita-1. Literally any other character could've filled that role.
She's suppose to be the compassionate but brave leader of the female Autobots. She's the female Optimus prime.
the IDW incarnation of her strays so far away from the original source material that it isn't even her anymore it's just someone's edgy oc that just happens to look like Elita-1.
I think every incarnation, no matter how different, oath to include some important elements from the original source material that makes a character THAT character.
Anyway I really like this Elita-1 design from the earlier issues way back when Spotlight Arcee wasn't even published. I wish somebody had killed Simon Furman so Spotlight Arcee could've been prevented from ever being published and maybe we could've seen this version of Elita-1 flourish instead

>What were some of your favourite parts of IDW? Anything in particular you didn't like?maybe i am a gaylord but my favorite parts were thundercracker's adventures, anything starring prowl and jazz, almost all of mtmte, a lot of lost light and the cybertron stories that were written by mairghread scott. none of it was flawless, but those stood out to me as the most enjoyable. the spotlights were p cool too, hit or miss tho.
there was a LOT i didnt like. im not american and im so far left that im basically an anarchist, so the very early furman runs were dripping with american propaganda which i thought was insufferable. i hated all of the crossovers except for Rom, they were okay. i really disliked how the writers kept juggling starscreams character back and forth, it was pretty clear to me that the writers were not in agreement for his arc/character and it made his whole story very messy, particularly the post-cybertron parts.
actually, these characters were done the most dirty, or were written in ways that i personally did not care for: optimus, starscream, arcee (lol), sunstreaker, sideswipe, galvatron, shockwave (i liked pre-empurata shockwave tho), ultra magnus (yeah i also hated the minimus thing).

>>463726 Of course, i appreciate that you asked politely.
the charm for me is not the male gender but the concept.
the concept of humanoid robots that can transform into vehicles (or sometimes even other objects or animals) is quite charming.
the lore of transformers usually also tend to be quite charming/interesting (as long as they dont pull a IDW 2005 by killing off all genuine female transformers).
and lastly, what makes me interested in transformers is simply female transformers even if they're scarce.
i liked IDW and Cyberverse Windblade, Prime Arcee, Rid Strongarm, Animated Blackarachnia and WFCT and TFOne Elita 1.
i also liked the version of Elita 1 that appeared in the original cartoon even if it was for only one episode.
mostly because she had a very soothing voice

>>464131 That's what I believed as well until in IDW 2005 comics, they introduced a bizarre concept called "CNA" which could be thought of as robotic DNA contained in a protoform/transformer's spark that is responsible for determining his/her appearance, including sex.
Tinkering with it can change sex, apparently.
But if you ask me this concept is such bs because you can never change your birth sex on a DNA level.
You can only "change" it on a superficial level by getting opposite sex mimicking surgeries or synthetic hormones.
And also since they're robots why do they have to tinker with their "CNAs" in the first place?
Why don't they just change their body parts or extract and shift their sparks in whole new bodies instead?

>>462325 >>462421 >>462688 >>464018 the whole Arcee issue could've been resolved if they had just placed his extracted spark in a male body. but Simon Furman wanted a psycho forcefemmed man Arcee and later James Robert and that TIM Rachel Stevens wanted transbian Arcee and two more annoying transbians Lug and Anode for "lesbian" representation so IDW never did the right thing

>>462325 >>464155 enough with the whole IDW trans discourse already.
yeah it was a terrible idea to shove trans bs in a franchise about sexless robots but we don't have to keep ruminating on that.
instead look at this comic I found on DA (part 1)

I'm reading the Skybound stuff in order (including Void Rivals and G.I. Joe) and it's super refreshing. I love Bumblebee but I'm so happy Cliffjumper has the spotlight here. His relationship with Carly is really sweet.

>>464920Transformers shipping discourse is so ridiculous. I don't care if it's "
abusive" nor do I care if there's an age gap. These are giant robots that are thousands of years old. Who gives a fuck?

Anyway, I'm aware that the Evergreen designs aren't liked well by most TF fans, but regardless, I still really dig this Evergreen Elita 1 design.
Especially the cute little horns on her helm.
They remind me of Bumblebee's and Cliffjumper's horns

>>466422 >>467544 Another Elita 1 design that I'm fond of is the Botcon 2009 one although it is a redeco of Thunderblast from the Cybertron cartoon.
Poor girl mostly gets redecos/retools of other transformers (I fucking hate you Arcee) and rarely gets her own designs
