A thread for everything doll related.
Stuff like Sylvanian Families/Calico critters and Nendoroid dolls are also welcomed. If you can put on clothes and pose them, they're dolls.

Not my pic, but I recently found this My Friend Jenny doll at a little antique shop near me. She's so adorable, I love her sweet expression. Her torso and upper arms are made of cloth so she's very comforting to hold and reminds me of my old Holly Hobby rag dolls ♥ She's from Fisher Price, there are other dolls in the line but on the packaging she's advertised alongside a blonde doll named Mandy who I think is just adorable and am considering buying on ebay. I love when dolls have other friends in the line, like OG Barbie and Midge, I always pretend they're girlfriends.
Side note, but does anyone here collect larger dolls like these? If so, how do you display them? I just never feel like I have enough room to do it properly.

>>215855I think you could buy one or two dolls like Licca chan or this
>>215841 because they're quite small and don't take much space at all. Picrel, they are almost half the size of a Barbie, and with some smart choices you can get Barbie clothes to fit them. Liccas can get a bit pricey, but you could get it second hand without breaking the bank, or you could even buy separate parts on AliExpress and make you custom one for cheaper.
Example of a link for Licca heads:
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPhpyR8They also have a body in that listing, but here's another body that is more posable, and although a bit bigger, also fits a Licca head (but it's pricier too):
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPhpyR8I'm parcial to clothes collecting rather than doll collecting, because I personally think it's more fun to own many clothes and a few dolls and create scenes/looks with them rather than many dolls that only have one or two fixed outfits. So for clothing, you can get them at AliExpress, local flea markets or thrift stores, toy stores that sell doll clothes, or even learn how to sew them yourself, which I highly recommend! It's a very rewarding hobby and you can put it to use for your own clothes as well. And it's cheaper: I've used old t-shirt's sleeves to make a whole t-shirt for my dolls, baby socks, left over fabric from making masks or stuff like that. You can have a lot of fabric variety! Also it's great for your hand coordination.
Either way, good luck, anon!

They are also not very comparable to RH, but yeah, MGA will sell it for profit and they are greedy (it's a big toy company after all), it's just that RH dolls are probably costlier to make because of the reasons I gave, so they will be very expensive. 80 is

Most BJD companies are just a few people and even Volks is a small business. Fairyland the maker of Minifee is already lacking, so you will get a shitty copy of a shitty doll. Reading this thread has reminded me of my longtime dream of wanting to make a BJD of my husbando, so I decided to start researching on what kind of doll would I like it to be. I ended up deciding that I'll most probably just buy a Kid Delf since they're my favorite size and I don't really trust the cheaper BJD companies for some reason or another (or maybe it's just because I find their faces ugly even when the bodies they do are just fine) and then customize it into my husbando as I sew the wig and all of his clothes.
Doll nonas that know far more than I do, any advice for me?
No. 217271
>>217260>The most important thing is making sure you get the doll you love the most. Ignore any advice to get a starter or a cheaper doll! It took me too many years to learn that you can really only start to enjoy the doll if it's one you love.Thank you a lot! This really makes me glad to have heard about because I'm sure I was just about to start falling into that meme.
>Luts is a good company with very good quality, so it's a good choice. I kind of guessed so already, and I'm pretty sure that I was probably on the right since as I said on my first post, my gut feelings weren't exactly positive about the cheaper doll vendors for some reason or another.
>Have you ever sewed a wig and clothes before? If not, you might waste a lot of materials learning, so keep that in mind. Not really, but I'm willing to learn along the way and since I don't live in the US I don't think purchasing the clothing (except for maybe the shoes) off someone else wouldn't be worth it due to price and such.
>I hope you can bring your husbando to life. Also, join Den of Angels as soon as you can. The hobby is a lot more fun with friends and there is information you can only get if you ask for it.Thanks,
nonnie. Personally the main reason why I feel like joining it is so I can know the waiting times for certain stuff to ship home and perhaps some other obscure tips I can't get off public web resources, but I could very well do so in the future!

>>217281>NTA, but they already mentioned Den of Angels. It's basically a BDJ forum where people sell clothing, dolls and even offer face ups for a fee. You can questions. It isnt as bussin as it was 10 years ago, but it still gets traffic.Makes a lot of sense, I guess I will check it out soon!
>And a good wig helps a ton.Really? I wonder if that means buying an actual wig and just styling it to look like my husbando's hairstyle would be the better option over doing everything myself, although considernig that I can't sew it probably would be worth the money in case I screw up my own wig.
>I hope you get your dream doll, anon. Luts is a great choice. Thanks nonna, from what I've seen most people seem to agree with Luts being one of the better choices, and I also really like their aesthetic when it comes to how they make their dolls look like.

>>217924What are the prices and size of dolls like these in average? Can you get accessories and mods for him (like different clothes, jewelry, different hair) He looks beautiful, I wonder if I could afford him…
I never looked too much into dolls because I couldn't keep them.

>>217920They are really, really expensive in my country, so they are very niche. I don't think I would even be able to find them easily, let alone resell it, unfortunately. At least if it was just a fashion pack, I could probably get away with importing them for a bit cheaper.
This hippie one is also pretty cute!

>>217930Not that anon but as it says in the image, this is Immortality of Soul (I.O.S) Sezz. Same company that did the Black Butler dolls a while back.
>>217923He's cute but if you love yourself do not order from Dolk lol

>>217938Yeah the prices are outrageous here too. $19.99 doll is $64 here. Fucking crazy. Though they sold LOL OMG dolls here too for $92 (~$30 in Amazon US). I just order mine outside my country, I ain't paying those prices. Seems like no one else is either, since so few stores sell them. But maybe you would be able to get more money from selling them since they are so rare?
Btw I just realized I've prob spent like a thousand dollars on these bobble head fuckers… HELP I hate being a consoooomer
