What do you think of men and women with tattoos?
Do you consider them classy, trashy? Are people with tattoos bad decision-makers or should we not judge a book by it's cover?

No. 4761

File: 1430045160868.jpg (41.45 KB, 460x460, watercolor-fox-tattoo.jpg)

depends on the subject, quality and placement of the tattoo imo

No. 4763

On others, they can be really nice but I wouldn't get anything big myself. I have a small one on my hand but that's enough for me. Too many tattoos I think is trashy unless there's a central theme going about them all.

No. 4779

Hopefully this doesn't go off-topic but do you think people with many visible tattoos should work in banks, schools, government, etc.?

I know tattoos are now socially acceptable but I tend to be old-fashioned when it comes to stuff like that.

No. 4780

>>4779
typically no, but there are always exceptions depending on the people in charge.

No. 4783

>>4779
Unless they have a penis or a swastika tatted in a visible place I don't think it matters. Tattoos don't mean you're not fit to work in schools etc. unless they are totally tasteless (which can be decided on by the employer).

No. 4784

Tattoo culture bothers me me quite a bit, or at least the commodification/cheapening of it as an art form. Most everyone I know has at least one tattoo, most are well thought out and lovely. But folks that are fucking COVERED before they're 25 gross me out. It's not about the art or the pleasure of getting a new tattoo, it's just getting as many as possible and usually for as cheaply as possible.

And fucking jesus, so many people are convinced that tattoos have to mean something. Sometimes people just want a pretty picture on them. I hate when people show off their tattoos and every single one has a huge story behind it, and those people are usually the ones covered all over early on. What happens for all of the major life events later on? You have your first child or travel round the world but all your skin is aleeady taken up by ~I got this cuz my life was reeeeeallly hard when I was 16 and I wanna remember thatttt~

No. 4785

>>4784
Worse when people go SICK TATS WHAT DO THEY MEAN when they see your tattoos.

No. 4800

>>4761
I would agree. I don't think I'd get any myself since my tastes changes a lot and I'm scared of getting something I think is neat at 21 on my body only to regret it later on. "~20 years of life is rather short! people can live up to 100 years now" kind of thinking.

I do largely think that tattoos of franchises (games, books, movies, characters, and shit like that) are rather tasteless and I'd tend to respect people who get original designs more over people who just get the triforce on their back. To me it's like wearing Juicy sweatpants everyday except it's permanently on your body, just product placement and all that. Things like that tend to work better in larger pieces or when there's an overall theme, rather than Mario on your calf just hanging out.

>>4779
The thing is, it's not really hard to hide tattoos if you try (unless you get them on your face or hands or something dumb like that). Your body has a lot of hideable real estate that, if you know you're going into a profession that discourages them, you can still get that "special tat". I briefly watched some documentary about extremely tatted people, and this guy just bought dress shirts in a difference size/with longer sleeves, so when he reached out to shake clients hands, his arm tattoos didn't show. The people who complain about not being able to "express themselves" by showing their tats don't seem to realize that even though there's a lot of them in the world now, they're STILL in a minority of people. I hope this makes sense, tequila is not my friend.

>>4784
>Sometimes people just want a pretty picture on them.
I guess I can get it as an aesthetic thing. But one thing I always wonder about tattoos is, why on your body? Why not commission it as a poster or for a shirt or something? Sorry, I guess I just don't get it.

No. 4849

You should get a tattoo if you're in a criminal organization or the navy. All the rest is just faggotry.

No. 4851

I like looking at them when they're done by a professional artist, but personally would not get them. I'm entering a career where they're not really accepted, so I guess it depends on your job/what you're aiming for. I think employers don't see the tattoos as a problem in themselves, it's the associations made with the type of person you could be. I know it's bullshit but thinking about it maybe they do prefer clients to see a clean image as well. If my tattoo wasn't done perfectly I'd get upset that that was stuck on me for the rest of my life.

I don't say anything but if I see a woman with an unnatural hair colour or an undercut, problem glasses and tattoos I'm probably gonna avoid them.

Men with stretched ears, tattoos, ironic beards and/or Hitler Youths/manbuns also tend to be douchebags who like to smell their own farts. I had the pleasure of getting to know guys like that several times, every single one was just like I thought, spot on.

If it's tasteful and not sleeves or a tramp stamp I don't see why not though. I personally don't like them but if you're not being a moron it's fine, like with everything else.

In my eyes, since all my family have tattoos I don't mind them. I really don't, I can't picture my family members without them tbh. I think certain ones are nice with like a lost relative or something but stupid ones like "breathe", bird cages and angel wings are ridiculous.

I know it's "its their bod tho" yeah but you look a twat.

Especially when people get quotations on their chest. I remember a girl I used to follow on tumblr, everyone gushed at how 'artsy' she was for getting a harry potter quotation on her chest… before she bragged how tiny she was and could fit in kiddie clothes…

I just prefer having bare skin. I'd like to leave this world the way I came in tbh. I'm just boring and vanilla but meh, that's who I am.

No. 6162

Not a fan of tattoos. It's. ..forever. unless it's something like my grandmother died and Im getting her name sure but other than that nah. They just seem like glorified doodles and look tacky. Plus there's a correlation between people who get tattoos and narcissism.

I like nicely done tattoos that were done with high quality expensive ink like >>4761
But I fucking hate those ugly ass green gray faded looking pieces of shit I see on a lot of people. If you're going to get a tattoo, make sure you get a good artist, see examples of their work and make sure they're using quality ink. There's an alternative girl in my class that has a ton of beautifully done colorful tattoos and on the opposite end of the spectrum, there's a girl in my class that has quite a few ugly ass tattoos done in shit ink that make her look like trash.

tl;dr, make sure you research and get a pretty tattoo instead of cheap garbage. There will be a huge difference in quality in a $500 tattoo and a $30 one.

I'm not the person you replied to but from what I've seen, people who are tattooed tend to be more cocky and special snowflake-like (like when they wear those shirts saying "Tattooed AND Employed!", you don't see me flaunting "Mexican AND Legally Here"). The tattooed people here are chosen over non-tattooed people for most jobs, which sucks for people like me.

No. 6235

>>6227
No, that still makes no sense. Literally anybody can have a tattoo, from gangsters, to soccer moms. you can't group such radically diverse people into labels like cocky and narcissistic.

I know that not 100% of all tattooed people in the world are cocky. Just the ones I've interacted with.

Tattoos are seen as a symbol of "toughness" and "bravery" here, and that's why people with tattoos are chosen over us non-tattooed people.

and while I personally don't want a tattoo I love looking at her work
https://instagram.com/nomi_chi/

No. 15668

Ahh I love Nomi Chi's work. I want to get a piece done by her some day but shes always booked and verryy expensive. Everyone in the shop she works at is amazing too.

Personally I like tattoos but to an extent. I would never cover my entire bdoy with them. I've noticed a lot of girls starting to do that. Half the time their tattoos are so generic as well. Some kind of Buddha thing or roses.

No. 47691

I'm fine with them on either sex, but I have a few myself, so I'm a bit biased. I put a lot of thought into each one I got; they're all easily coverable, I designed each one myself, they're simple and timeless, and I just plain like them. I have no problem with people without tattoos in general, of course, but the immediate judgment of character that some people make when they hear you have any ink whatsoever is pretty obnoxious.

I've been thinking about getting some smaller white ink tattoos but I'm so afraid of them turning yellow after some time.
Aside from that, I don't really want any. They look great on other ppl and I think girls with tattoos are hot as fuck, but I don't think big, noticeable tattoos would suit me personally.

I think she rocks it. Tattoos should always be personal, that's my opinion. I worked in the industry for 10 years now and everyone should get tattoos that tells a story, even if it's one they might regret later. I think people who look down on tattoos are assholes. You shouldnt get tattoos if they aren't right for you, but you shouldn't judge others who have them. I only have a few on my arm and I'm not planning to get anything more than a half sleeve and maybe a back piece.

No. 47769

Yes. WHy would someone who has tattoos be less qualified to work those fields? If they have the qualifications, degree, pass a drug test or whatever- what's stopping them from being hired other than visible and shitty discrimination? We need to move away from that kind of attitude about tattoos, esp if they aren't anything offensive.

No. 51594

I don't think I'm interested in getting any, just because it seems like it'd take a ton of effort and money to find a good artist. There are plenty of really nice tattoos posted online but I'm nowhere near anyone that has that level of skill/quality in their work.

I'm also worried about not liking the tattoo or it aging poorly. My sibling has one that drives me insane if I look at it too much because it was drawn very unevenly.

No. 51600

Tattoos can look good and bad; I think mostly bad because people don't think hard enough about them.

A person can look classy and like a piece of art with proper placement, color continuation, style continuation, and a solid well-thought plan that works with a master artist.

Unfortunately, most people don't do any of that and end up looking like Charms. Even most tattoo magazines don't show the best artists out there, but I think the general public doesn't get to see enough of the truly amazing stuff.
