Geekdom is dead.
Toys and games and even children's books. Nostalgia rules over those who call themselves geeks. Geek is no longer an intellectual, but a frivolous child-at-heart lost in their own little world.

Videos games, a mainstream platform of entertainment, is considered "geek" territory. Why? You share this interest with eight year old children and act as if it's an obscure interest that makes you unique. Video games are produced by corporations and writers much in the same way movies are made, with the exception being user engagement. Most people in their lifetime have played a video game. Obsessing over something does not make it geeky, teens who obsess over celebrity drama would be considered geeks if this were the case.

Anime. Anime panders to it's demographic is the most demeaning way possible, yet liking anime is thought to make a person an outcast with unconventional interests that make them unique. Why? These people make fun of mainstream media and it's vapid nature while watching shoes filled with fanservice and directed at people ten years their junior. Just because it's not popular in your country doesn't mean it's not a part of popular culture, it still carries all negative baggage that all stupid mass produced shows do. Do you really think that upskirt shots are a part of artistic self expression on the part of the writers?

Will a nerd or a geek ever be a smart person again? As things are going now, a geeks is someone who is absorbed in brainwashing mainstream media.

Playing indi games still requires no thought and does not make you smart.

I unironically think it can be. 99% of the time it's not.
