Since we have a few threads for more popular TV shows like Game of Thrones, I figured I'd make a thread for the lesser-known shows and films that probably couldn't make up whole threads on their own. This thread is for the less popular stuff on your watchlist only.

Post about the underrated shit you watch, farmers. Discuss it with fellow fans. Post descriptions of the shows/movies to try and get some extra fans to add to that tiny audience. I'm sure there are enough of us looking for something decent to watch that have already exhausted the obvious suggestions.

It doesn't really matter about actual viewership numbers, as long as you don't post something that's blatantly not underrated or unknown, like a hit TV show. You can also post stuff here that is well known in one country, but not globally.

Based on a Swedish show. It's scifi-ish stuff with robots.

>In a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a 'Synth' - a highly-developed robotic servant that's so similar to a real human it's transforming the way we live.

I think it's delayed because they had actual pirate ships for filming instead of sets and one of them caught fire.

But YES the excitement is too much. It's one of the few shows where I'm actually interested in everybody and don't feel the urge to skip through plotlines.

"Monster" is an extremely underrated/not well known anime. It's a psychological thriller about a Japanese brain surgeon living in Germany who chooses to save the life of a young boy over a well-known politician, which ends up costing him his position and reputation at the hospital, although he firmly believes he's made the right choice.

Several years later, the boy, going by the name Johan, manages to track the doctor down, revealing himself to be a severely deranged serial killer. The rest of the anime is basically the doctor chasing Johan and trying to stop his killings, vowing to "right the wrong" choice that he made several years ago by choosing to save his life over another. Lots of creepy mind-fuckery ensues, and Johan is seriously one of the most fucked up fictional characters I've ever seen.

Highly recommend it.

Saw this recently too, very good movie and I highly recommend it. Also, good taste in husbando.

Another film I'd like to recommend is Patch Town, which is also on Netflix. I don't want to spoiler it too much with a description but it was dark, sweet, and poignant all at the same time.

In the flesh is a great show and was canned at the worst time because HEY weve got The walking dead!!! Who needs other zombie shows.
(mainly due to the channel.bbc three, going bust and moving online, they put up the first season on the site so Im praying they are testing the waters)
Gets a bit duff in season 2 in some places and less grimey for where its set, but its great.

"Shutter" (thai movie from 2004) really freaked me out (well, at least the plot twist did)
The beginning of "Noroi: the curse" (japanese movie)
The first "Blair Witch Project"
"Rec" 1 and 2
"Sinister"
but tbh I think it really depends on the person…what do you consider scary ?

Yeah, I hate most anime, so it's always nice when something comes along that actually holds my interest for that many episodes. I think Monster had about 50 or so?

I tried watching this due to the recommendations in this thread, but am actually finding most of the characters pretty dull so far. Having a hard time getting invested in it, as the action/adventure factor usually isn't enough to keep me hooked on a show. Only watched the first two episodes so far. Should I keep watching?

Not the best thing to watch if you want closure, but I like Les Revenants/The Returned. They did an American version but I don't know how that compares to the original because I haven't seen it yet.

>Dead people try and return to their lives like nothing happened

>Guy that died on his wedding day returns to see his fiance about to marry somebody else
>Girl returns to see her twin sister has aged without her
>Creepy ass kid
>Serial killer back from the dead
>Some weird shit

It's a slow burn but it's pretty good imo. I think it definitely gets better. It starts having more action down the line once all the characters are established.

I'm still sobbing from this, hope the second series holds up! I felt all the side characters tended to be the more interesting ones and I didn't care so much about the main plot, but as a whole the characters were well nuanced and 3d.

>>103015
If you liked Monster then you might like Rainbow: Nisha rokubo no Shichinin
It's set in post-war Japan so it's a nice blend of melancholy, uplifting and outright depressing as it follows a groups of boys through their coming of age.
You know it's a good anime because the characters have noses.

I loved Humans, and Utopia! I'm still salty about it being cancelled too, it deserves a conclusion. I was gripped by the first (French) series of Les Revenants, but the second wandered a bit. I liked Witnesses, too (also French).

No. 108288

>the second wandered a bit
I didn't like how it seemed to ignore threads from the first series and pulled new ones instead. It's nice to have a bit of mystery but there came a point where the show was just chucking confusing stuff in for no reason.

Also, I liked the characters more in series one. The main revenants (Victor, Camille, Serge and Simon) felt more real in series one.

No. 108558

>>108380
There were so many unanswered questions about the revenants that I was happy for Serge's dad to come back because I thought he'd answer some of the ones related to Serge and Toni but the payoff was kinda shitty. His screentime was too much for too little.

I'm pretty bummed that Simon's flashback was to him as an infant because tbh from series 1 I kind of thought the police and the priest were involved in his death in some shady way. Even though they weren't, I'm disappointed that we didn't get a death scene to clear it up.

I wonder if there will be a series thing because Victor hearing Nathan kind of set one up.

Dogville(2003)

Oh. my. god. This is probably my favorite movie of all time. I felt such a range of emotions while watching it.

All you have to know about it is that it's about a woman named Grace who escapes from mobsters and stumbles upon a small town by the name of Dogville. The people are wary at first, but with in time Grace adjusts and is accepted by helping the townsfolk with work and things progress from there.
I really recommend that you experience it first hand.
