Did anybody read up on the incident that led to their break up in 2009?
Allegedly after the show Liam went backstage and threw a plum at the wall, then went and grabbed a guitar (Noel's?) and swung it around violently almost hitting Noel over the head with it. Then Noel for some reason stepped on it and broke it.

I don’t think they were similar in terms of personality, more so similar in a way that Oasis no longer became a collaboration, but in fact a competition between the brothers. If any anons have seen the As it was documentary, (despite the heavy glazing of Liam) It shows that Liam has a bigger influence and say on how the album sounds than just being a voice that sings what the songwriters give him. Liam was very active in producing the tracks, with constant feedback to the producer that showed his vision of what he wanted his album to sound like. This behavior isn’t something that he developed after Noel left, but something that has always been there since Oasis. In a radio interview Noel has stated that Liam was the one to help with the lyrics to the chorus in “don’t look back in anger” and in the songs that Liam has written, his music style is very noticeable, many times when he writes songs they tend to be naturally more experimental compared to Noel’s style. Liam uses his voice as another instrument through his choice of lyric repetition instead of a lead that guides a song, he utilizes time by making songs faster or including pauses, and is more simplistic both in lyric and instrument use, however tries to emphasize what he has depending on what feeling the song is going for.
Noel however, is already established as a good songwriter, a good lead guitar, and a good counter-balance to Liam’s antics. However seeing Liam grow it’s easy to think that Noel’s position was being threatened. Noel prevented Liam from learning guitar, Noel acknowledged Liam’s inability to be as good a songwriter as him, Noel joked about pressuring Liam about his songwriting to prevent him from getting better, and it’s clear that Noel was satisfied in his position within the band, even if it meant doing more work. Their initial dynamic of one keeping the other in check fell apart as as the band grew, it no longer was about keeping the other in line and more about trying to control the band’s direction, very much hinted at in the argument between the brothers of what rock n roll was. Liam mentioned that prior to the breakup Noel was talking to a bunch of journalists that Liam believed wasn’t going to be writing good things about the band. Noel seemed to disagree, (Liam never explained because he probably forgot) which harkens back to the tour in Japan where Liam got into an argument with Noel as the journalist Noel was speaking to asked to feature them in the cover despite talking trash about them.
Noel has also stated clearly in interviews his complex towards Liam, thinking that Liam is a great singer, better looking, a better sense of style…when Liam takes more traits from Noel, I think Noel felt like he was getting slowly pushed off Oasis. I think that Liam’s actions were not as big of a reason why Oasis split, Liam basically told Noel that his daughter wasn’t his and Noel still decided to stay. Noel leaving when the band was still big was the best option for him in the long run, it hurt Oasis by losing half of its appeal, and helped Noel, especially when he makes a story of Liam being much more threatening than he was.

Towards the end when he started talking about them being in a "bad marriage" and "staying together for the kids" I get the feeling he was just sad and fed up with Liam no longer being under his total control and not being his favorite person anymore. You can tell from the way he moped for 15 years about "not being needed" and made his entire solo career out of writing response songs to Liam about his feelings (as he always did since the beginning of oasis). In the end I think the no contact did him good because their relationship was unquestionably too
toxic to function. Even if Noel definitely did it to hurt Liam. Whatever kind of healing Noel was looking for by leaving Liam I get the feeling he got it, while Liam didn't and crashed out his entire personal life (as he was already doing before to be fair). Instead he stayed angry for years a la scorned lover until he started being desperate for Noel again.

I still can't get over this interview where he manages to make the swiss interviewer uncomfortable. Like he can do nothing except repeat what he just heard, with a tinge of incomprehension (with Noel looking right at him to see his reaction) and then tries to move on to the next question but Noel, unsatisfied by his reaction perhaps, feels the need to continue instead of just leaving it at that. The way the interviewer just laughs nervously and then puts his hair behind his ear obviously hella uncomfortable gets me every time.
