No. 390384

Post shitty, lazy, tacky crafts.

Examples:
>useless resin shit like glittery pyramid paperweights ;
>20$ kidcore weirdcore y2k earrings (paperclips on hooks);
>overpriced "handmade" products that are actually cheap dropshipped crap;
>embarassing "sexy" gifts.

No vendetta and selfposting.

i don't want to post examples because i feel bad but i am so tired of crochet pillows, plushies, etc they are so over-saturated and feel like a cheap and easy way for someone to try and make money for their crafts. everyone fucking crochets these days.

agreed, they're kind of overdone but still cute imo. i see little girls selling their handmade crochet plushies on the street all the time. I got a rainbow turtle plushie from them and it's adorable. It's a good hobby and a way for children to make money but adults doing it for profit is kind of silly.
>everyone fucking crochets these days.
i can't crochet for shit so stuff you mentioned is still impressive to me kek

now that i think about i probably should've made this a crafts discussion thread. i was feeling salty at the time
Rule I forgot to set:
>don't post things obviously made by children

sorry for reposting for the third time phoneposting is a struggle

I'm tired of the world's shittiest amigurumi getting gassed up like it's so charming. Why don't Westerners know how to make cute things.

well of course i don't mind little kids doing any kind of craft. i just hate seeing adult-owned shops on etsy filled to the brim with crochet shit

I think vagina candles are tacky as fuck, sorry. And I'm sure half the people who sell them are just trend hopping

I hate amigurumis too but I think it appeals to boomers and gen X from every corner of the world. Also, I HATE acrylic yarn, fuck that shit, any project made with acrylic looks bad

Just looking at acrylic yarn makes my nails and skin flinch, if I ever had sensory issues I think touching acrylic yarn is one of the biggest ones.

Also good thread OP!

I agree lots of crochet goods are very ugly but I don't even think they make money. I often see crochet blankets and clothes sold for prices that probably barely cover the cost of the yarn.
I actually feel like a lot of crocheters/knitters who buy WAY too much yarn try to justify it by running a shitty "business" that won't turn a profit, but it's a way to convince their partner/themselves yarn hoarding is actually an investment.
Same for fabric hoarders who sew super ugly clothing. This youtuber has bought out the stock of an entire closed down fabric shop, constantly thrifts tons of fabric and always makes the ugliest fucking clothes (they seem well sewn to me as a beginner, they're just always unflattering and in really atrocious colours).

This thread reminds me of an old Livejournal community called 'Ugly Crap' that I loved, thank you OP!
Picrel is from there. I've seen a resurgence in similarly retarded crafts since the pandemic but it looks like most of them are made by kids or beginners so I feel bad posting them here.
>>390761
I think that most of the crochet stuff that's sold for pennies are a way for the seller to get rid of their projects more than a way to turn a profit. It's annoying but understandable.
The sewing though, holy shit that gets to me. I make some of my own clothes and I always get lumped in with retards like the one in your video unless I provide progress pics and photos of me wearing the finished item. Beginners will always sew ugly lumpy shit with bad fabric choices, that's part of the learning process, but this particular dumbass has enough fabric to clothe a village and still dresses like a sped. I don't know why anyone would do this instead of investing in good quality fabric and a few sessions with a personal shopper to learn what looks good on their body before sewing a whole wardrobe straight out of a cringe compilation from 2016. She's not even that fat but she looks absolutely massive in the frumpy clothes she makes.

I wish I had it bookmarked but Youtube once showed me some woman's video where she bragged about how she thrifted some gorgeous crochet bedspread made by an old woman who had just died and "honored its maker" by cutting it up and making it into a basic bitch 2023 crop top in a very 5-minute crafts way, not even doing anything to prevent fraying. I was mortified watching it and so were most of the comments who were calling her out for destroying the old woman's precious work like that. If they weren't doing so I would've lost my faith for good.

After writing this I actually went and looked for it and surprisingly found the short. It was worse than I remembered, holy shit.

They all do those because it's the most low effort garbage you can make. Children obviously are excused. Imagine an adult learning to paint and they make a turkey with their handprint, like children do in schools. That's what those stupid amigurumi are. They're fine as a learning tool but jfc move on. I wouldn't even hate them if they weren't the only thing I see being made. There are so many beautiful amigurumi patterns but I guess they're too much effort.

I used to run a tumblr for ugly plushies way back in 2012, and there were a lot of shit badly made. picrel is just one of the types of plushies I remember posting, the usual low effot craft made with low quality felt and people kissing the crafter's ass for doing mah husbando!1 kek. good times, now at least there are a lot of good plushie makers, back then it was impossible to find someone to comission something. I ended up closing the blog in 2014 because that's when SJ started to get big and making fun of someone was akin to suicide baiting them

I miss Witchsy. It was such a treasure trove of trashy handmade shit for edgy millennials who wanted to decorate everything with tits, dicks, clowns, and bongs. Where else could you buy knitted sperm cat toys or overpriced ceramic wall art of a shitty toilet bowl?

Ot (not really, I’m criticising a shitty craft) but I really dislike how comically warped versions of the female body only achievable through surgery are so normalised. The male version of the headless woman candle should look something like this. I

I see your basic amigurumi and I raise you fucking perler bead "crafts". I hate seeing adults try to sell this shit as art or jewellery. At least amigurumi teaches the maker some skills they could use later but this is preschool level shit and any adult should be ashamed to still be doing it let alone trying to sell it.

i've recently picked up this hobby and i agree. i genuinely can't see why would anyone buy something so plain and ugly that you can always make yourself why tho?...
perler beads are for kids and autistic adults who want to cover their fridge with their favourite vidya character sprites, not for making profit

Usually I'd be mad but honestly it would just end in a landfill if she hadn't bought it. It's clearly old, it's at the thrift store for a reason. Nobody wants it. The note is probably a lie anyway.

I see your perler beads and i raise you no effort 3D printed shit.
If you print (and optionally hand paint, multicolor printing is a thing now) your own designs that you created yourself, that's one thing. You've obviously picked up a number of skills in the process that can be marketable.
But if all you do is just show up to a maker fair with your stringy, unsanded, unpainted (or badly painted) crap that you got from printables or thingiverse fresh off the plate of your beat up uncalibrated ender 2 then you can fuck right off.
I've up and stopped going to fairs here because they're chock full of tables like this.
It used to be putty/cold porcelain kawiwi earrings and shit jewelry before, but it has since shifted to this.

sorry but your picture is a bad example and i would kiss the crafter's ass as well because that plush has so much more charm than what you'd see from the FOTM alibaba mass produced sweatshop plushies we have nowadays
