Try and stick to a theme! Avoid bootleg merch and try to keep it within the a certain color palette, stuff like rosettes among other accessories are always encouraged since they look fantastic though!

Seeing so many girls and women in Japan wearing itabags when I went to Mandarake or Animate was fun, but I don't see myself using a bag as big as the ones sold for that purpose. I kind of wish there were cute, smaller everyday bags that could work, to make a small itabag.

Honestly, my dream Itabag is a bag I can use everyday, even at work, that has some sort of panel to hide the mobile shrine during moments in which I need to hide my powerlevel, but that will still let me carry my husbandos anywhere I go so I can look at them and remember why I’m working so hard.

This is why I don't like overly specific itabag bases though, you're better off with a more basic base so you can fit more merch in without distractions from the bag itself.

I always love them since it feels like more love goes into bags for characters from older series that (obviously) have less merch. You can really tell the person has been dedicated to the character for years and is less likely to jump ship when the new idoru series comes out like a lot of flavor of the week baggers.

honestly I think it's because he's more of an all-ages character and the sheer volume of merch means there's more plain stuff out there. Like every husbando keychain is going to be designed with female fans' taste and itabagging in mind, meanwhile Kirby is popular with kids as well so there's a lot of generic merch like what a little boy who plays the video games would want. Here in the US it's hard to find official kirby merch that isn't literally just a png of basic promo art. However there has been a LOT more cutesy kirby collections for female fans recently so I feel like now is the time to make a bag for him

Sorry to reply to a week old post but this was my dilemma as well until companies started producing bags to remedy this issue. I use this one from WEGO which is pretty popular because it's cute, functional, and only ¥5,000. The front looks like a normal purse and the back is transparent for displaying merch. It even comes with the backing to pin merch to which can also be removed and turned around if you really wanted to be stealthy. It comes in a ton of different colours too

Zenmarket used to be my favorite, but the raised their per-item price to 500 yen, so it isn't affortable anymore. I haven't tried it yet because I'm low on money righ now, but I have heard good things about Dejapan, their tax is just 100 yen per item (+ free if you only order a single item) so that's probably the cheapest one now.
The trick is to find merch bundles on Mercari, specially the ones labelled as "junk" (I once got 2 figures for €30 just because they were missing their bozes), just make sure it's a bundle and not a "tell me what you want from the image" listing. I heard yahoo auctions is great for the same stuff as Mercari, but I'm a Eurofag so I can't confirm. Suruga-ya is also very useful to find individual stuff for cheap.

Honestly the dealbreaker when importing from japan is the weight, you have to stay under 1kg to have cheap shipping & it's so hard, specially when just a single book weights 800gr & the padding adds to he 1kg.

It's definitely a zone that has it's upsides and downsides I think

Upsides
>Great for more obscure characters or characters who are western and way less likely to get official merch because of that
>A lot of time the design is more lovingly done than the official merch which is sometimes just stock art printed on a badge
>can be cheaper than the official merch
Downsides
>Sometimes it can look kind of messy with a bunch of clashing art styles, this is avoidable if you're willing to pick carefully and place them nicely, but I'd say it's the main downside to fanmerch only bags (some of them can still look fantastic though like this one >>333951 )
>tumblr art and pronoun pin stuff can be common depending on the fandom, meaning that it's not only harder to find merch but harder to find inspiration for your bag.

God this, the other day I saw someone opening preorders for your usual acrylic keychains and I got excited because they made some of obscure characters I like that have no merch, but then I saw the price was $18. I passed so hard after that, it's a straight up robbery.

They included a ugly lanyard (not a full one, just those small ones that they add sometimes to keychains), but I don't think that would add an extra $10. It made me remember why I never buy merch from US artists, almost $20 for a 5cm keychain that you arent even producing yourself + trying to makie so much profit using characters that you don't even have the rights of should be illegal; even with VAT and shipping buying from JP artists is cheaper and have better quality

I think the problem anons had with fanmerch is when people made fanmerch bags for characters that had plenty of real merch. For example, back in the day people would make itabags filled with fanmerch for characters from anime like BNHA or YOI that had boatloads of real merch that they could've preordered or done box splits for to fill their bag. Most anons I recall were supportive of baggers who made bags of characters with little to no official merch and even had resources for where to have your own merch made. I personally don't really mind them, especially when you can tell they put a lot of effort into the presentation and curation rather than a shitabag like picrel where they just went to the artist alley at a con and bought the first few things they saw so they can say they made a bag kek

They raised the prices last month, that's probably why you had a normal shipping price.
Weird, I haven't seen anyone complain. So Dejapan are kind of like Buyee 2.0? They have tons of hidden fees (even a "we check if your parcel arrived" one kek) and they put the original shipping box on another box, so if you order more than 1 thing you get a massive package.
I had Neokyo under my radar, but after some maths I saw my usual 4-8 item orders were cheaper with Zenmarket before their price raise. But since it looks Dejapan isn't that good I will switch to Neokyo instead.

Pretty sure that's a kumamate bear and outfit, they sell the outfits for the bears and the bears themselves so you can pick one that fits the character. There's also themed bears from movic that come with outfits are specifically made to resemble a character like picrel

I love bags that show the love of the creator with their sheer creative skill and attention of detail to the character… You can put as many overpriced can badges as you want to show "muh dedication", but something with just two badges, rosettes, and a shittily made plushie will still beat it any day.

That being said… I do think there's some creative ways to display duplicate badges. I like the rosettes used here, and the color scheme is flattering. But the stupid ちいかわ thing is unnecessary.

Apparently minimal merch bags have been getting really popular in the Chinese scene? I think they're pretty but I still prefer bags with lots of merch, seems like a great option for characters with minimal merch however.

Komaeda's character tax is pretty high but there's a fair amount of merch of him so you do have a lot of options.
Generally the best place to get danganronpa merch is surugaya and mercari jp.
I'm going to be honest though I'd go in not expecting to find merch for cheap if you're going to do a bag for Komaeda so pacing yourself is a good idea (speaking as a fellow dangan bagger for a high character tax character).

Honestly you're better off using food accessories (ie: maybe a plush tomato keychain on the outside?) over actually the bag shaped like a tomato, mainly just because there's more room for merch in a regular sized bag.

Overly themed bags have a couple of issues, they're usually pleather so they flake like crazy over short periods of time and are usually small so you can't put a lot of merch in them.
